Naruto literally beat this attitude out of her, encouraging her to stand up for herself, and began to teach her kenjutsu, or the technique of the sword. Since then, she'd grown into one of the most proficient sword masters in Winterfell. Even Ned Stark had a hard time beating her with a sword.

 

That emboldened line is as far as I got.

 

Has the author really mentioned if Naruto's harem will consist only of four girls? Seeing as Most Naruto crossovers consist of him dipping his dick in every girl he comes across...

If your favorite part of ASoIaF/GoT is the southron game and King's Landing intrigue and politics then this fic is for you. Most PoV's are Ned and Cat but the author has slipped Lyanna, Arthur Dayne and Rhaegar's too.
It features my favorite fanfic!Rhaegar too as he comes off as a very complex and conflicted character. Also, if you're expecting beautiful, perfect and flawless Lyanna you'll be disappointed as there are times that she's even more of a bitch than Cersei.
It feels shippy and slow at times but manages to keep you entertained and wondering what the author will write next.

I checked this out and Lyann's attitude made me stop reading. Like how she's all, "I wanted freedom, and in Dorne you can fuck who you want when you want!" meanwhile the person she's cheating with is betraying their Dornish spouse...and causing a fucking war. The author's explanation of Lyanna's decision just killed it for me.

 

Like I previously said, Lyanna is a bitch in that story and it only becomes worse since she's in a position of power when no one dares to point out any of her faults unless they want her (and Rhaegar by proxy) as an enemy. Several people have the same issue with her attitude but the author has stated that's what he/she was aiming for: both Rhaegar and Lyanna are flawed individuals. And that's exactly why I like the story because, with the few information we have about their canon personalities, most writers choose to make Rhaegar the handsome, fair, perfect and kind knight and Lyanna his untameable, beautiful, brave and flawless damsel in distress while in truth Rhaegar was a selfish man who led his kingdom into war, cheated on his wife, dishonored his children and got them killed because he couldj't keep it in his pants, prophecy or not. And Lyanna was a girl that escaped with the crown prince while promised to another man (not the most honorable thing to do). It's refreshing to read a story where Rhaegar has to fix his mess and where Lyanna not only chose him for love but for power as well.

If it's any consolation, the last paragraph of the latest chapter suggest Lyanna might be getting what it's coming for her. It's not confirmed so we have to wait and see if the author has guts to pull it off.

EDIT: tl;dr Selfish Lyanna was so busy having awesome northern sex with Rhaegar that she didn't have time to think about his Dornish wife.

Why are there so many goddamn modern AU aSoIaF fics on fanfiction.net? Seriously, like half the fics on the first few pages are modern AU's.
And why do people even write these fics in the first place? They are only very tangentially related and really can't even be considered aSoIaF fics.

 

Not just limited to ffn, quite a bit of them on ao3 are also Modern AU.

 

People write those Modern AUs because they find easier to write about a time period they know or because they are too lazy to research the lore. I mean, who in his right mind would write a story featuring political intrigue, tragedy, warfare and magic when you can write about Sansa seducing Professor Sandor or Arya and Gendry getting down and dirty in the janitor's closet?

Most of them are just there for the shipping. Of course, there must be some exceptions.

 

I think people just want to write their own original, high school romance fic. However, they're less likely to get readers if they just posted it up somewhere as original fiction, so they make it a fanfic and get more exposure like that.

That and they can be lazy about characters. Where in an original fiction, they'd have to introduce and write a character people can sympathize with and like, in fanfiction they can win the audience's favour simply by using the same name (even if the character is written completely differently and with a completely different background).

 

Yeah but if they wanted exposure they would use like Twilight or something. Not many people check out ASOIAF and GOT compared to other sections.

EDIT: But seriously, the story can be saved if Athena's "awesomeness" makes her go supernova and we get a kick-ass story about wizards floating in space and trying to rebuild society.
