We'll want a new world file for Unleashed since there's a bunch of new worldgen.

I've decided I'll buy us a new server about wednesday-ish. I'll do my best to keep it a long-running stable server. Any objections to that?

installing FTB now, as a huge EE fanboy I'm glad to see they're reworking that and trying to fix it (not too successfully in all cases though lol)

I'm excited to try the other mods too.

I was one of the few who was consistently active on the DLP FTB server (in fact, I believe I was the one who suggested the idea in the first place), so I'd of course be game for the re-reincarnation.

By the by, I never heard anything else about a DLP Ultra Hardcore match. I thought more people would be interested. Alas.

Anyone have some working texture packs for FTBU? Preferably not too resource-hogging?

I've tried Rednics' but it just doesn't work. The one time I managed to load it the texture was the same as vanilla. Which sucks.

Edit: Drome is misteriously able to run it. Maybe my PC is too slow. Might need a x64 version rather than the x128 I was pointed to.

I manually cobbled a patched sphax x128 pack together. It has nearly everything textured, which is nice. I'm not a huge fan of sphax but it's nice to have over vanilla, and the only texture pack I've seen even remotely approaching being mostly complete.

I was thinking about your problem earlier: looks like other people were having crashes trying to get it to work with optifine. Have a go at downloading the regular pack without patches from the regular site for now, (link!) IdSayWhyNot, and hopefully if you find out whether you can run just the default. You'll be able to manually patch it after that if you want. And yeah, you'll probably want to go for something other than the 128x textures if you have a slower computer, but the completeness of the pack usually goes 128x > 64x > lower resolutions > higher resolutions.

After sphax, the next most complete texture pack is Soartex Fanver. I really like soartex; it's smooth and clean looking. The lack of textures gets on my nerves, though - I used to have a version manually patched with random textures from sphax wherever they were missing that someone spent hours compiling, but that was for a different modpack.

So I have a host picked out and ready to go! I'm gonna start us out on 4GB which should see us through nicely. These are all the people I've noted down as having interest in joining the server:

    Minhoto?
    Aekiel
    Jon
    Ollie
    I'dSayWhyNot
    Palindrome
    Kensington?
    Tomster10010
    Gizmore
    Athanatos
    Mknote
    Luckylee

Server cost for 4GB is £30.50 - with twelve people contributing the cost will only be £2.50 per person, or $4.00 - not too bad, right? I'll try to have it up for tomorrow, so you'll be able to hop on.

Can someone help me with linking a comprehensive guide to modding the game? Because every guide I found is wrong is some way. I would be very thankful.

    Download Minecraft Forge.
Follow included instructions on how to install minecraft Forge.
Install Minecraft Forge, it adds a 'Mods' folder to your MC folder.
Put desired forge-compatible MC mods in the Mods folder.
    ????
    Profit.

    I recommend Thaumcraft 3.

EDIT: Unless you mean making your own mods. If that's the case, then I have no fucking idea.

So part of me is really excited, and the other part of me is going 'wtf why would you do this'... but I made a minecraft HQM modded let's play video!

This is the first video I've ever made, but damn if I didn't pour my soul into producing this. It was pretty fun to make, especially the intro. But I thought maybe you guys would like to take a look? I could use the support if you wanna give it :)

I'm not a fan of tech-based mods, preferring magical ones like Thaumcraft or Ars Magica.

But I took a look at your video and you have a pleasant voice and that's often a deal-maker or a deal-braker in let's play videos which obviously rely heavily on the voice of the player.

So, I'm going to watch your series.

You should try Mindcrack then :3

I watched both videos and I'm quite impressed. The production quality is very good even without considering that it's the first two videos you've made. The mod pack itself is interesting; it reminds me a lot of Agrarian Skies, and the setting reminds me of a plot bunny I may write many, many years into the future if I can ever progress that far in my storylines.

I've actually been thinking about doing a Minecraft LP myself, but the problem is that I'm usually pretty quiet; I don't think I could keep up the talking you did. Any advice? Also, what program did you use for recording?

As someone who used to be quiet before I started making a public spectacle of myself, I can say that deciding to do it is the biggest hurdle you have to cross. Once you get going, you'll build up momentum and get into the spirit of it.

Otherwise, just remember that it's not live, so you can take a break whenever you feel yourself running out of steam. Planning what you have to say beforehand can really help, too. It prevents both rambling and pausing to think. At the same time, don't be afraid to be spontaneous. Go with what feels natural.

Don't worry about fucking up, either. The great thing about recording something is that you can keep trying again, improving each time. It's a bit like re-drafting a story, in that sense.

If you make something, post it up here. Even if it's shit. Especially if it's shit.
