Yeah. It's worth a quick read through. Nothing mind blowing, but a nice little time killer.

The huge paragraphs scared me off whenever I wanted to start reading that fic.

Yeah, the paragraphs and flow are really just... bad. There are some fics I've read that I've enjoyed that in a strict sense were worse off even than this (spelling, grammar, etc) but at the same time were much more fun to read. Snow lacked that quality.

Part of the problem with Snow is that the whole idea is centered around the relationships between Ned and Catelyn and Jon, but instead of that the first chapter featured a dreary summary of the end of Robert's war, done better in dozens of other places. When a fic only has its core idea going for it, it really needs to capitalize on that idea to offset other issues.

This for example is a terribly written fic in terms of grammar which managed to sort of draw me in because it did something interesting and ran with it (Not exactly a rec, but it's a guilty pleasure. The author is very obviously not writing in his first language.)

Hey guys, major ASoIaF fan here. So, I was digging through this thread (many great recs by the way) and I can't seem to find any Jon or Tyrion-centric story. Do you, by any chance, recall any that's readable?

There was a story posted about Jon going south and becoming a knight, but I forgot the name of it. Couple pages back iirc.

I sorta like the idea it's based around...but the story is getting ridiculous, seriously. Some of the little bits I enjoyed, like Barristan finding Arya and bringing her to Riverrun, but the bits about Aegon, Dany and the dragons...this is one of those stories that you say to yourself, "One minor fucking change does not cause all these ripples"

I'm in the market for a guilty pleasure.

Does anyone know of a well-written "things go better for the Starks" story? Focus on the well-written:

    - Good spelling, grammar and formatting.
    - No really awkward phrasing.
    - No Mary Sue OCs and self-inserts.
    - Proper storytelling with decent pacing. No 2000 word "summary stories" that are all tell and no show.
    - Focus on the politics and combat, not on shipping.

Robb or Ned centric would be good.

Edit: "Targaryens triumphant" variations of the above are also welcome, because I'm a massive royalist.

Is it rude to ask here, how a certain story with an author that always makes me think of rainbows is going? :sherlock:

Some good Ice and Fire fics are the:
The Iron Gauntlet and the Silk Glove series. It starts with Stannis and Renly acting like real brothers and things branch out from there. Changing Canon drastically.

While you're at it, Half-Life 3 would be good, too.

The closest to this is Ned Stark Lives, which started off kind of cool and slowly became a parody of itself. To be fair I don't think anything else in the genre even approaches it's "gold" standard of competent mediocrity.

I'm a fan of Jon Snow fics where he doesn't go to the wall. Any other ones I should look at besides A better fate and Snow?

Or just good Jon Snow fics, honestly.

    Snowfall

He bled out on the snowy grounds of the Night's Watch, not expecting to wake again. But he did wake, and it was not in the forlorn outreaches of the Wall, but back at Winterfell, where King Robert Baratheon was a day's ride away… Old Nan had always warned against changing fate, but how can Jon refuse a chance to prevent the game of thrones?

Yeah but I'm pretty sure that story is going to be Robb/Jon slash eventually

Not bad. I like some of the authors Naruto stuff, from past experience. So hopefully they won't sour a good story with unnecessary slash.

Also found this story that's kind of interesting: though be warned, there's a gender bender between Lady Catelyn and Lord Eddard, with it now being Lady Eddara and Lord Kit. Also, it's a R+L=J story, but a fairly solid one.
