I see that you are emulating G.R.R. Martin in more then one way. Just don't forget that each time someone asks you when the next part comes out, you have to rewrite what you have an kill another Stark ;)

He has to get to the point where he has a Stark to kill first. :p

First things first, I haven't read many asoiaf fics other than a few posted on this site. I haven't browsed through ffn so I don't really know what sort of cliches or divergence points are popular. I'm in search of some book 1 stories that revolve around 1 of the following:

The scene where Ned & Jory are ambushed by Jaime and his men. I want to read a story where Ned kills him there, or perhaps Jory kills him. I'm not expecting it to be a serious story, and the more anticlimatic the fight, the better.

A story where Ned is smarter and sends multiple letters all across the land about his findings about Robert's bastards (not just to stannis).

A story where the gold cloaks do follow ned and they arrest the queen. Word of her incest spreads and the public learns that Joffrey is not a true heir. I'd love to see her get executed.

A story where the fight breaks out, and Ned and his house guard repel back the city guard and capture the queen.

A story where Stannis get's Ned's letter and seiges the keep, taking the throne for himself.

A story where Ned listens to renly and they successfully plot and overthrow the queen

A story where Barristan does what he says he would and fights through the remaining Kingsguard.

Any story where Cersei dies in a lulzy manner because she's not as smart as she thinks she is.

Its been over a month since anyone recommended anything here. So did anyone manage to find any more good ASOIAF fics recently?

I was considering reading A Winter's Tale the other day, I think Rapscallion started it and might have an opinion on it. It just caught my eye because it was almost 100k.

Read till 7th chapter. The writing was pretty damn good. The premise of the fic though, while interesting, seems a bit too jarring at the very start of the plot. It almost borders to reader not having any idea as to wtf is happening for starting couple of chapters. The story, till now, is mostly revolving around Jon and Sansa, a bit of Jaime too. Not a lot on what's happening in westeros. Relationship between Jon and Sansa seems to be the main story.

For those who like only relationship stuff, this should be perfect. Those who want more political intrigue and general stock of asoiaf fic, sadly, not much of that is in here. But fic is more than readable, with competent writing. I will try finishing it whenever I have time.

And also, it has Dany, the Dragon Queen, going for Iron throne with her dragons. So you could always read it for Dragons.

Queen in the North. An one-shot about possible ASoIaF ending if GRRM will finish it with a total winter apocalypse.

A lack of interest in this thread makes my suspect that most people are out of their GoT phase at the moment. Which should change around the next year's April. Maybe even certain someone will update his fic then. Or not. ;)

GoT fandom seemed to mostly composed of unlikely pairings, or really unlikely pairings. (Arya/Tywin, for example.) Excluding a few good ones, there isn't really much to talk about here. The barrier to entry to the fandom for an interesting fic that is not just romance is just too high, I guess.

With a Winter's Tale I found even the Dragon stuff pretty jarring. It's a good shipping fic like Rapscallion said but it leaves a lot to be desired as far as what's going on, I was more or less confused the whole way until chapter 12 when I dropped it.
Outside of the romance which was among the better Jon/Sansa stuff imo, it kind of fell into a sort of Wham! Bam! It's over, now back to the shipping.

I also didn't feel it managed to do Dany and Aegon justice, particularly in terms of how they responded to Jon and the issues between the three of them in terms of the Iron Throne.

Still looking at what's been produced in the last few weeks I'd say the lack of apparent interest is more to do with a lack of fics in general, ignoring the somewhat questionable quality of the few new ones I have seen.

Tried Winter's Tale. It has a fatal lack of Arya, sadly.

I want to read an Arya fic where she doesn't get involved with Gendry and just returns to Westeros to straight up murderdeathkill a bunch of Lannisters.

Most likely not exactly what you're looking for, but at least there's no Arya/Gendry. Basically a short series (8k words total) about Arya and Sansa in a post-books world where Daenarys takes over Westeros and Sansa becomes 'Queen of the North'. Decent timewaster if you got nothing else to do.

The authors’ justification was ridiculous; the idea that for magic to be included there would have to be something wrong with magic itself is incredibly unimaginative. I gotta say, the fact that in her mind magic = instant win is something that really annoys me.

Sure, magic can potentially lead to a complete curb stomp in crossovers. If you have someone like Dumbledore in the story (or you’re just a bad writer). But this is Harry and Hermione, they themselves are the flaw and magic is the thing that gives them a chance in a world they don’t know and don’t understand. Hell even with Dumbledore his own unwillingness to impose himself would prevent things going crazy.

This just isn’t that good of a story.

Not at all. I accept magic’s potential to do pretty much anything and like I said ‘potentially lead to a complete curb stomp’.

What I’m saying is that the witch or wizard is the weakness that stops that from happening. Not magic itself.

No character is perfect, and if they are then you’ve done something wrong. Magic may be able to save a character from any possible situation… but only if the character manages to think of it.

The imperius curse alone could completely break the ASOIAF universe, in that it would allow a character to take any person in Westeros as a perfectly obedient vassal.

The author's explanation is bullshit -- as previously noted, while her "dragons vs. phoenixes" is not so absurd that it ruins immersion, it is in no way something that the author was compelled to follow* -- and the source reason is also pretty crappy. HP magic may break ASOIAF in general, but not the kind of magic third years know. In fact, third year magic may be so useless that there's little point in the crossover. (Somewhere between PoA and the end of GoF their magical repertoires got a lot more practical).

I also don't see how nerfing Harry but leaving Hermione's magical abilities completely intact does anything to stop the fic being a curbstomp. It just means that Hermione will be doing the curbstomping instead of Harry.

*For example, it seems totally reasonable to me that a wand is completely self-sufficient and doesn't depend on the world around it for its functioning. Therefore the lack of phoenixes in the ASOIAF world would have no effect, as all the wand needs is the phoenix feather inside itself.

Alternatively one could say that the existence of dragons in ASOIAF means that the magic of those dragons resists the magic of Hermione's wand, meaning that she can't use magic but Harry can, as there are no ASOIAF phoenixes to resist his magic.

Like I said: the author presenting their explanation as compelling them to nerf Harry but not Hermione as the only reasonable course of action is disingenuous.

It's been a while since I've seen an old-fashioned Taure canon-curbstomp. You start to miss the classics.

But... his post (while correct) has nothing to do with canon?
