That was, well, a very disappointing last chapter? A great ride though

I feel like that was just set up for the sequel. The Undersiders are getting primed to go do what they do best, and that's something to look forward to for the next book.

Does anyone know when the sequel will be coming out?

I'm...not sure how I feel. That was probably the best possible ending Taylor could expect, considering she mindraped everyone. She'd have been hunted down if anyone knew about her, couldn't have lived a normal life.

    But...

But still, it's kind of sad. This really kind of is the day after the end of the world for her, huh? Not sure what else I could want, but this was...I dunno.

    And really...it's over...

Yeah, quite liked it. Really, really happy that Taylor survived, and yeah, this is absolutely the best thing that could have happened to her but it also feels like things are maybe just a few seconds before going to crap for her. Well, I do have some hopes that she will be involved in the sequel, maybe even in star in it.

Not quite sure what else to say, feeling a bit weird right now. Sad it is over, glad that Taylor lives, sad that Taylor lost her powers, friends and purpose, glad that Taylor can, for the first time in a long time start healing and relaxing, sad that Taylor will be tormented by the fact that her friends are out there doing things and she will feel guilty because she is once again separated by them and can't help them but glad that barring something big, she will be left alone for the most part.

Actually, I really want the sequel to be about Taylor.

For those who have missed it, here is Wildbow discussing what comes next. If nothing else, am looking forward for the rewrites.

So, yeah, still going to be Worm stuff.

    Odd.

Dammit, that was satisfying. Taylor's journey through Worm has been hands down one of my favorites in fantastical fiction, and this was a damn good ending.

I'm content with the ending. Taylor finally has her peace and that's enough for me. It looks like the major players know she's still alive. My problem with the chapter was the dialogue its so unreal.

I also like that he'll go back and improve the pacing. It's true sometimes it was jarring to see so much happen in so little time, although it made sense. Leviathan attack attracts S9, S9 trigger echnida event, basically a domino effect. Still it would be good if there could be some breathing room between the major events.

Focusing on her time with the wards is good because we'll get to see Clockblocker more.

I'm weirdly not excited for the sequel because unless he sticks to the small personal stuff, I don't think I would find any large scale threat to be threatening at all. The Endbringers don't seem to be that scary anymore.

I sort of wish he'd connected the dots with Danny there. Not sure how he made it through everything. Otherwise, pretty good ending even if it wasn't something super crazy.

And so it ends. Such a bittersweet feeling.

Come the weekend I think I'll have my first ever re-read of Worm. I'm sure it'll be quite the journey.

I like about 90% of this. It dragged a little bit at the end, but it was satisfying.

One line that I quite liked was when Taylor said:
Which is just classic her. Yeah I have problems that no one on earth should have to deal with. Lol no I've had worse. I guess she still doesn't know that Grue's dead either. Pretty bittersweet really. Her powers were such an integral part of her identity that I can't imagine how lost she must be now.

Not all of the epilogue chapters were the greatest, but this one hit most of the right notes.

It's a good ending. The closest thing to a happy ending that she could get.

As for who will be protagonist in the sequal, I really can't tell. On one hand, Taylor is alive and all, on the other, her part of epilogue had a sense of finality to it. Uneventful train trip through the countryside, conversation with an optimistic Morgan Freeman-like figure, Taylor being alive, Earth Aleph's version of her mom, her dad being alive and then we see Earth Aleph's version of Regent, it all seems surreal to me, like an afterlife or something. Kinda reminded me of Lost's ending for some reason.

My thoughts have mainly been covered by everyone else here. This is one of my favorite works of fiction. Top 3, easily.

I'm more excited about the new story that Wildbow will be starting (which ever one is decided upon) than I am about a Worm sequel.

The same, really. I hope he goes with Peer since I probably won't be too keen on the genre otherwise.

Peer was mehish. I'm not too keen on the genre, so that's partly it. Then there is the fact the he acknowledges that he's starting out with the weakest idea, just to shift gears.

Face (Thriller) and Pact (Horror/Modern Supernatural) are the two genres I'm most interested in. Given some of the stuff in Worm, I think Wildbow could do Horror really well.

The narration was a lot stronger than the interaction, but that comes down very much to Wildbow's strengths. When he's got a monologue, mental or verbal it's a joy to read, but the dialog didn't really drag me in.

Eh, I hate having to judge something off just a couple chapters, but I'd be surprised if this turned out to be the strongest of the stories Wildbow previews. I don't think it plays to his strengths as well as some of the others, for one thing. Looking forward to see if the first chapter of Pact is good.

Pretty much the same feeling here. I wasn't really into the characters, or the setting.

One thing that I did like was the persona that Casper shows the court. It was kind of cool to see hints of a more confident man who was crippled by his gift. With that said, I'm a little worried that it could end up a case of "look how secretly awesome I am." The Kith didn't strike a chord with me either.

Couldn't get into it at all. I tried twice and simply couldn't get through the first part. So much description and exposition all front-loaded really weighed it down for me. And the dialogue that's there is just incredibly dry. Stylistically, it's well written, but I just found it pretty boring tbh.

Really looking forward to the Biopunk one. That should be cool.

So Peer Part 2 went up. It sounds like the response has been pretty lukewarm almost across the board.

In other news the Kith are now slightly more interesting. It's kind of cool that they seem to be manufactured, so to speak, and can be individually analogous to animals (Boars, Birds, etc). Casper is also a bit of a creep. If it wasn't for my interest in discovering exactly what's up with his sight then this would be a whole lot less compelling. Someone pointed out that the long starting chapters might not being doing any of us favours, which is fair enough.

On a different note: Maybe a mod should create a new thread for discussing the story roulette that's going on here?
