I drew the opposite conclusion. There is no Scion and so the world is fucked.

Scion and Eden's plan to seed the Earths with their shards and then consume them all is proceeding without a hitch. That's why the shards were distributed earlier.

    Maybe.

Are there any confirmed Cauldron capes in this reality? Cauldron requires a dead Eden.

This isn't a "neighbouring earth" to canon. The fic says that this is Earth Bet, so I'm assuming that all of the Earths from canon were re-wound.

If Scion's history is the same then he should be on Earth Bet. That and the extra capes since the 20s is why I suspect Scion and Eden had a different entry to Earth.

    Similar problems as already mentioned:

Taylor is a bit OOC, way too open about her powers to someone she doesn't know at all.

Also, the OC. On one hand, OCs that are pulled off right can be amazing and a few of my favourite characters in fanfiction have been OCs. Dreaming of Sunshine, the Alexandria Quick series and the Ascension Trilogy all had OCs either as main characters or in prominent positions.

On the other hand, Worm has a large enough cast already with plenty interesting characters who could all do with more screentime, so, it is a difficult hurdle to overcome to make us (or at least me) care about this new kid, who, as bakkasama says, seems to be made to be liked, and looks as if he lives the good life. So far, am not really interested in him, as opposed to pretty much every other character in Worm.

Still too early to judge it all that much but I am interested.

So far it's been played straight as your standard AU-Peggy Sue fic, so I'm not convinced that's really where the author is going with it. I'd like to be wrong, though.

    This is really fucking good.

Ok, so I got your intentions wrong and the impression was a result of my own wishful thinking.

This part seemed indicative of some Bi- curiosity to me:

I should refuse, obviously. It made all kinds of sense, especially since I didn't actually go that way. But the whole idea of it was strange, so unbelievable that I just sat there, and she just fidgeted, as the silence grew pronounced.

    As did this one:

And all the while, our hands remained tightly clasped. I was so acutely aware of the press her fingers against mine – so much rougher than mine. It would take a second for Panacea to do whatever she wanted to my very biology, and yet I didn’t want to let go.

    Why?

    I could not answer.

    This one too:

She was tumbling over her words, and they were washing over me like the spray of breakers against the shore.
It was a sudden and heady feeling. Bitter too, in its way. Nobody had ever talked to me like this.

Brian might have, occasionally, but that did not matter anymore.

I could remember my mother's faint words in my ear, as we stood by the sea. Oh darling, you'll regret it so much more if you don't. Another time, another world. Still, it all applied in way, didn't it? I'd taken a jump - with Lisa, with Brian - and I didn't regret that. Maybe the circumstances that drew us together and the choices that I had to make - but no, not the people.

Maybe I just read too many lesbian romance novels with all their angst and subtext ... or you are taking the mickey? Now I've confused myself. :)

IIRC the discussion about that story on spacebattles correctly, that one is indeed going to end up as a yuri story, at least I really, really hope it will = P

    Here are a few more:

    Abreaction by Jace911

Inspired by Ryuugi's story, Taylor also gets the powerset of Lung only it starts with her being in a cell, basically, skipping the fightscenes and dealing with Taylor's emotions and incarceration. Really interesting so far and I quite like the writing.

Panacea Quest hosted and DMed by WyldCard4

It's kind of a forum game, where the DM gives choices as to where the story should go and you can vote for it. Writing by the DM is solid and I just started "participating"/reading two days ago but it is a great amount of fun. Premise is, basically, it is a Panacea story, diverting rather early from the main story during the Bakuda arc and how Panacea basically deals with stuff differently. Personally, I think it is darker than canon and it is really true to the spirit of the source material. Worth checking out. It gets worse, the serial, indeed.

    ...Fucking Tinkers by violetshadows

A crossover with Sword Art Online, basically, after the khepri thing, Taylor wakes up in the world of SAO. Rather good so far.

    Mindgames by Seclorum

Another Taylor triggers with a different power story. This time she has the sharingan, mainly its illusion capabilities and it is really well handled. Quite like what Taylor did with her life ever since she got her powers (i.e. made things worse).

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonfly by jacobk, same guy who writes Bug on a Wire.

Series of cracky one shots, loosely connected and while the first three are okay, the fourth one is hilarious and awesome. Definitely worth a read, laughed very hard whilst reading this. Basically, Taylor's power set is, basically, warping everything around her to transform it into a cheesy martial arts movie. What that power does with everyone's abilities, just great.

    I also second Walkabouts.

This reminds me of a generic/bad Harry Potter back in time fic, except with Worm. While in the HP fandom it would be a tired and bland retelling of a story told a thousand times, here it is at least the first time the story is getting told, in a way.

    • Barely explained time travel mechanism
    • Main character at least a little OOC; often not as traumatized by events or attached to characters from old life, for various reasons
    • Main character's end-of-canon powers slightly improved in various ways; few reasons given, if any at all
    • Shopping spree for stuff, much detailed descriptions of gear
    • Discussion of Martial Arts and how they apply to supernatural combat
    • Universe slightly altered to make it more "cool"; varying degrees of subtlety vs. blatantness here
    • OCs or practical OCs; possibly as the main love interest (hopefully not, would be more than a little skeevy), to the exclusion of a perfectly good (or at least, the protagonist seemed to think so in canon) love interest already there
    • Writing is shaky and ridden with typos yet persistent and edible, like slightly burnt literary popcorn
    • Obsession/Focus on early canon events/enemies the protagonist should no longer really care about (Dursleys/Terrible Trio)

I haven't looked at Mindgames, and I read a little of Abreaction but it seemed like it was going in a really angsty direction to me. Fucking Tinkers is good and Panacea Quest is quite fun for what it is.

Mindgames starts out Grimdark/derp but it's latest chapter seems to imply that the author is trying to move away from it.

Another thought on Cenotaph. Since Skitter has just about eradicated the villainous population of Brockton Bay, what's going to happen when the Endbringer attack hits? What if it hits while Noelle is out? We know that Leviathan was aiming for her when he attacked. Now there isn't a nice, sturdy Endbringer Shelter in the way to prevent them from meeting.

This may actually beat out Worm for It Getting Worse in the early stages at this rate, though Taylor hasn't been hideously maimed yet, so it's not that bad yet.

Then we get a Noelle vs Leviathan fight. Worst case scenario, Leviathan is cloned and the mini Leviathan is either outside Noelle's ability to control or she cares not for the endbringer and attacks everyone who come near, monster included. Second worst case scenario, Noelle takes advantage of everyone being focused on Leviathan to capture to strongest capes in USA/Canada. Either way, tons of collateral damage since clones care shit about people.

I don't even know if the endbringers can be cloned and since she was already affected by the Simurgh it is kind of pointless for her to face another one. More worrisome is that she might act before people understanding her threat level. The reason they defeated Echidna is because they got her classified as an A/S rank threat early and with knowledge of her abilities, something they might not have this time around. And this early it is not like they can reach to the Travelers for help.

See, I'd be more worried if Leviathan had other plans in mind for Noelle, rather than just killing her.

I think it's telling that Leviathan attacked Brockton Bay after Lung had been arrested. With Lung still there, there's a possibility that the Endbringers (which seem to operate on a precognitive basis of causing as much chaos as possible) wouldn't target the city.

If they really could tell when to attack to make the greater amount of damage, which is in doubt except for the Simurgh, the reason to attack after Lung's arrest would have been because to do so earlier would have put a halt to the random bombings Bakuda was doing during the gang war. And if they really wanted to make the greatest amount of damage then they wouldn't hold back.
