    It's canon-compliant then?

I'd think so? Unless it would be interesting to see how not only his presence didn't improve anything, he also ended up making things worse. For example he attempts to help Harry in the quest for the Stone and in the process alerts Quirell, or something like that.

He tries too hard to befriend Harry and he is seen as a glory seeker, he tries to befriend Hermione and he can't stand her because she is too bossy, tries to redeem Malfoy and he is cursed because of it, tries to convince Harry there is no such thing as bad magic and almost gets them all expelled when someone almost dies from it. He tries to tell everyone that Dumbledore is manipulative and throws references to the greater good before Skeeter's book comes out and he is alienated because of it. He tries to sit in another's house table to promote unity only to find that it is against regulations (so that teachers can notice if a student is missing or unwell by looking at the tables) and he is then mocked because he is not wanted on his own table. Trying to mend Harry's and Snape relationship and not only critically failing at it but revealing his role as a spy by mentioning he was in love with Lily and getting him killed. Assuming Ron is a good strategist and following his plan, getting one of their companions severely injured and giving a severe blow to his confidence. Using house stereotypes when dealing with people from different houses. Trying to capture Scabbers and thus letting Petigrew escape by accident, condemning Sirius to a life in Azcaban because nobody knows it was Peter. Assuming that pensieves and veritaserum are a normal thing in interrogations. Swearing by his magic and being offended when people are not impressed. Tries to comfort Remus at the beginning of the term and someone overhears. He confronts the bad guy of the book time and time again, having his memory erased every time. A death eater reads his memory and all of Dumbledore's and Harry's plans are revealed. Trying to enforce pairings or trying to seduce one of them based on the mental image he has of them. Assuming that wandless magic is better and that wands are crutches. Taking the sides that would help befriend people even if they contradict each other and thus giving him fame as two faced. Assuming things before they happen and using future knowledge before it is due, rendering it useless because it changes the situation (example, Rita skeeter is an animagus, Lucius gives Ginny the diary in Diagon alley). Not wanting to change the timeline in order to know what happens and then enforcing stupid changes to make it better. Looking for a mentor among the professors when he can't handle the normal material. Aiming to retrieve the horcruxes himself and then losing them a la the one ring or by being possessed, making it impossible to complete the Horcrux hunt. Sneaking into the forbidden section and spending two months in the hospital wing by touching a cursed book. Wasting his time by trying to become animagus even though he is not a genius at transfiguration. Assuming that the pureblood and mudblood conflict is because muggleborns are killing their culture. Using paganism to try and bond with purebloods. Trying to look cool by saying Voldemort or an insulting variation and then being mobbed by fanatics.

Uh, perhaps it may work better as a series of one-shots with different characters instead of a single one.

I've been wanting to do a HP/Star Wars cross for a while. There's a half-baked plot in my head involving operational Infinity Gates, Unspeakable explorations, Guard/security/magical muscle Harry along to keep them out of trouble. Inevitably things go wrong, people die, gate blows up and they're stuck in the SW-verse until they can find another gate.

They've (Unspeakables) visited a number of times before, learning the language (basic), and enough for them to get by technologically. (assume there are a few muggleborn that have been drafted into this that aren't technophobes.)

One, maybe two people survive from the team (probably one so as to not get unwieldy.)

Magic would work a 'little' differently here, because of Force Interference (TM) Basically, Harry wouldn't WTFPWN!Jedi/Sith, being on par with a Dathomirian witch which is still fairly powerful.

My problem is that I pretty much enjoy a lot of the timelines of the SW-verse, but a good portion of the readers may not. There's a good argument for keeping it in the prequel or original movie timelines since virtually everyone is somewhat familiar with them.

    Opinions?

And just because I like to use pics to inspire me, this one might give you an idea about where I'm going with this. BTW no, this will not be lightsaber wielding!Harry... maybe a light whip... or a light cat-o-nine tails. (j/k)

If you set it in the Old Republic era, especially during the Jedi Civil War, I will sacrifice goats in your name and name my first born after you.

Goats, eh? Hmm, that is a mighty fine offer.

Is there any specific reason why you chose this era? Revan fanboyism? Mando fanboyism? Hatred of the movie eras? Dislike of the Legacy and Legacy comic eras?

Write this, and if you've read and enjoyed any of my work, I'll match you word for word on them. I'd second the Old Republic era, mainly because I'm in the middle of another Kotor playthrough, but I'd be happy with anything pre RotJ.

I like the Old Republic era, Revan is one thing, but the feel of the galaxy in his time was great.

In the KotoR games, planets like Taris, Nar Shadda, Dantooine, Telos, Kashyyyk, Korriban, were highly interesting places to explore and see the societies in them. The Exchange was a highly successful criminal organization, as I'm sure you know. The Mandalorians, while defeated, were still a thing, instead of being clones of just one guy.

I also read the Darth Bane trilogy, the books about Darth Malgus and others.

And there were so many Jedi and Sith in that era. All hail the Sith! :p

Plus, I jokingly claim that the tech of the era was better than the tech in the movies, but that's just looks (I think?).

Here's my thoughts on the different eras, the biggies anyway.

Pre-Republic: Tython, the Tho Yor arrival, Infinite Empire, etc. It's all fresh and new. There's not a lot of canon to get in the way, and the Force is something that was dealt with a lot differently with Ashla and Bogon... balance and so forth.

Old Republic: Tons of things going on here, mainly because it's such a large swath of time 25,000 years worth. However, it's rich in conflict, big names, expansion into the Galaxy, wars, different aspects of the Sith, etc.

Rise of the Empire: For a thousand years not much is going on and then it's thrown at you near the end. Granted, people are pretty familiar with the big names, and there is a lot of material to use. Little is no world building is needed.

Rebellion: Meh. I can give or take this era.

Legacy: Probably my least favorite simply because it felt so much like Post-Hogwarts Kiddie Adventure Time!

Legacy Comics: (130 ABY-) Back to what made SW interesting in my mind. Conflict, brand new characters that had a little bit to do with the big names. I saw them as the latest attempts of the Satele Shan era of the Old Republic, plus Darth Talon :awesome .

Infinite Empire is awesome, I think the Rakata were the only guys who had Force-powered tech. Harry's arrival could be what indirectly leads to the "plague" and their downfall. Maybe his magic fucks up their connection to the Force.

Unless there's any other input, I'm deciding on 3642 BBY.

I realize this falls right in the middle of SW:TOR MMO, which is what I wanted to avoid due to rabid fanboys yelling "No! No! She had green eyes not blue, you ignorant fuck! That was after she had her ocular implants put in! They changed color. You're off by a month and 3.29374 days! And she wore Consular robes not light battle armor! And her ship has a Class 2 Lightspeed rating!!! There's no way they could have flown to Coruscant in 10 hours!" whenever I screw up some minor detail. I guess that's what disclaimers are for.

    Anyway...

Starting it off on Tython, 'cause that's where one of the Infinity Gates was located, and coincidentally (Really, seriously. It was going to be somewhere totally different originally.) the local of a new Jedi Temple!

    Ahem.

Actually, no. I'm trying to stay away from SW:TOR characters as much as possible. That will be ultimately unavoidable, but I'm not having Harry join up with Satele Shan to go rehash battles with Darth Malgus 'n stuff ala most SW fanfic.

Harry won't be Revan's best friend or long lost brother, contacted by the Exile's Force ghost, that's come to free him from the Sith Emperor before he gets turned into Darth Revan again.

I furthermore swear that Harry will not eliminate the Sith Empire with a Reducto to any particular thermal exhaust port of any particular superweapon.

He will however be looking for a second Infinity Gate and having adventures along the way where he might bump into a big name or three. It's a big galaxy and he gets distracted easily.

    General plot:

(backstory) For the past hundred years or so the Unspeakables have been searching outer space via the Planet Room. About thirty years previous, one of them come across Tython, which is uninhabited at this point, and eventually encounter an Infinity Gate.

Fast forward to Satele Shan rediscovering Tython and the Jedi opening up shop there after the Sacking of Coruscant. Eventually the Wizard and Jedi meet and open up trade/exploration/whatever talks.

All of this, by the way, is compartmentalized within the Department of Mysteries. Very few people know of life on other planets, much less another Galaxy.

    (Actual plot)

Planned envoys cross back and forth and on Harry's first mission he's providing security for the wizards and has an ulterior mission given to him by the Head Unspeakable.

Chaos ensues, Sith have somehow found out about the Gate and want it for themselves or will see it be destroyed so nobody else can use it.

    Boom, no more gate.

Harry, companion, and a Jedi or two venture forth to locate a second of eventually three known gates and secure it for Republic/Wizard use. The problem is it's in Sith Territory. However there is a Sith spy they've yet to uncover, Harry's original ulterior mission to complete, all while trying to avoid the damn Sith assassins that are popping out of the woodwork, not to mention the rising tensions of the war that's just over the horizon as the Treaty of Coruscant is withering away and the cold war is coming to an end.

So, thoughts? Ideas that might be included to make it more interesting? I'm going to write the first chapter to see if I have the chops for this or not. I've got a general outline, so if the first chapter goes well then I'll cement to something more detailed.

Or what. I came to a roadblock in my outline that wasn't working in the story. So, it's on hold until I can think of something different, which might or might not ever happen. Until then, I think it best to continue writing as to not just sit there and stare at a blank screen for hours on end; productivity and all.

And thank you for that riveting contribution to this discussion.

Except with that picture I'm worried this is going to be gender bender. Or he shags some sith, in which case proceed.
