I looked but I don't think this was mentioned anywhere else. Apologies if it has been posted before.

I decided to introduce two unique fanfics about Wonder Woman. One is a Superman/Wonder Woman pairing, while the other is Batman/Wonder Woman. Both are very similar in the fact that they give Wonder Woman a new origin where she was taken from Themyiscra and raised somewhere else, yet how they do such is unique in both stories.

To start off with the BM/WW story, Hunter's Moon is a story where one of Queen Hippolyta guards, who wishes to have a child of her own, kidnaps a baby Diana and takes her to Man's World, ending up in Gotham City. Diana grows up as a regular girl and in her teens she meets a young Bruce Wayne. The two develop a friendship which when they get older evolves into love.

Not a bad fic overall. I first encountered it when I went through my BB/WW phrase(a few years back I became very obsessed with the pairing although now I like SM/WW). Though the reason I really like it is the premise, and that's Diana's changed origin(I will explain why near at the end).

The second fic I'm adding is Stolen Legacy. It's uses the basic premise that Diana as a child is kidnapped by slavers who work of Darkseid and is raised on Apokolips. She later on becomes a Fatal Fury. Later she's captured during an attack on Earth, her true identity is discovered, and has to essentially try to adapt to life on Earth after living on Apokolips for so long with the help of Superman.

I like both fics mostly because they both have a unique premise on Wonder Woman's origin that I really like. I like it when Diana has a different childhood than in canon. It's why I like Wonder Woman #600-614 so much(the comic before the New 52 where they gave Wonder Woman pants). I really like both stories because their just so unique in their interpretations of Wonder Woman and the characters around her.

Why do you insist on doing this to my self-restraint? I will now have to kill a newborn puppy to extinguish the rage boiling beneath my skin.

Hunter's Moon is a Batman and Wonder Woman pairing, so that one was more for your enjoyment.

Yes, it is. That is the only good thing the story has to show for itself. The amount of bullshit in it could drown a fish.

---------- Post automerged at 11:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:40 AM ----------

I feel the need to clarify. I wasted hours and hours reading this. Hoping beyond hope. But it only got worse, and worse, and worse. The fic itself stands on a premise that holds no ground. The characters fail to make simple connections of logic, even when presented with the choice.

It is the author's job to create character, not simple instruments to carry out his wants. The author failed in this simple task.

If you want more specifics, PM me, because they will undoubtedly be followed by a rant of epic proportions.

Exactly what it says on the summary. Sam get his freaky demon powers early in life.

    Script format.

Felt like a realistic episode of IASIP.

Man, this is what the SPN fandom needs, not who buttsexes who bullshit.

It's not the most spectacular piece of writing but I always felt the subject of demonic powers were not build upon as they should've been done. If anyone has any other recommendation that focuses on Sam's powers, or any well written SPN fan fiction at all, I'd be happy.

    Here's a decent SF/Fantasy crossover fic, namely Andromeda/LotR:

    Intersections at Right Angles

Having an android in Middle Earth is FUN. Story was abandoned at the 45.000 words mark, but it's still a good read.

Here is a (somewhat) How to Train Your Dragon movie verse story that is perfect for this thread:

First of all, let me make one thing clear: I hate the 'modern highschool' premise, if it can even be called a premise, much more than you realize. In fact, this is the only story I have ever come accross that I didn't just X immediately.
The reasons for this are many. First and most important, it is not necessary at all to know HTTYD to follow this. On the other hand, it manages to avoid the 'OCs with the same name" pitfall that most of these stories fall prey to.
The author has done a fucking brilliant job of transitioning the characters to a modern environment, and their equivalent.
The biggest plus of all is Hiccup's characterization, and everything surrounding him, such as his father, attitude, or choice of pets. I was immensely satisfied by this.

On the other hand, this story frustrates me quite a bit. Astrid is unrecognizable, though that is basically the main point of the story, and what drives it forward. There are some extreme themes depicted in this story, which I won't spoil but will be spotted pretty early on.
Some of the author's decisions regarding the plot frustrate me, and there is a seriously retarded wrap-up to one of the main plot points near the end. Her writing, while definitely decent, is nothing groundbreaking. She also has the annoying tendency to have big ANs at the start and end of the chapter.
The last ~3 chapters are basically one big, superfluous epilogue, and can be skipped if one feels so inclined.

All in all, I give it a 3.5/5, rounded up to 4/5, but I don't think it's quite library material, since its genre doesn't have a big following in this forum.

Give it a try, I'd like to hear more opinions on this.

A collection of stories centered around the often twisted, dark, and sexy relationship between Kathryn Merteuil and Sebastian Valmont

Ok first of all, this is clearly over 18 (in some states probably even 21) work and has quite a lot of Sex, Drugs and Bach in it. Frankly I am more than astonished that fanfiction.net let it stay online.
But enough of that, like it says it is a collection of very well written Oneshots set in the Cruel Intention Universe(and some Variants of it). And it really captures the absolutely depraved nature of the relationship of those two siblings.

I'll give it a shot based on your rec (I'm a sucker for a good HTTYD fic even if the high school thing is a bit meh). Will edit in a review after I read.

I remember I started reading Chasing Thunderstorms once a few months ago and quit shortly after starting, but with Rep's recommendation I've gotten to chapter 36 and I think it's really good, but extremely heavy. I'm taking a bit of a break at the moment because I'm a bit worn out from reading it to be honest.

Some warnings/big spoilers about a few of the darker plotlines:
Astrid is somewhat regularly beaten and raped by her drunk father. There isn't any graphic depictions of rape or anything, more of a fade to black scenario. She's basically an emotionally detached bully in the beginning because of this, who's in a relationship with a guy she semi-hates for appearances sake over the majority of the story.

Hiccup's life isn't anywhere near as dark, except his father doesn't really care about him at all in the beginning and later on in the story his foot gets crushed and he loses it. That isn't entirely unexpected if you've seen HTTYD but a main character becoming an amputee is still pretty depressing.

Despite all that, Rep is right in that it's the only story I've ever seen that makes the 'modern day high school fic' idea work, which is something I never thought I'd say. The writing is good, and I'd definitely say it's a romance fic but there actually isn't an overwhelming amount of that going on. More friendship/drama, though I haven't finished the story yet.

So yeah, it's definitely a good story and worth a read if you're not turned off by some of the themes. 4/5, I'll probably take a break for a few days and finish it later. I'll update this post if I think anything specifically needs to be said about the ending.

I read the entirety of it in a few hours, and for the fucking life of me can't figure out why.

The writing was technically adept, the characterization was... similar to HTYYD in a lot of ways, but as that massive spoiler text above me reads, Astrid's character is a lot darker than the relatively one dimensional perfectionist she was in HTYYD.
Which isn't the worst that could happen, honestly the change in her character does nothing but add depth to what would have been a generic popular girl/ unpopular boy wish fulfillment fanfic. It does have the unfortunate side effect of side-lining Hiccup's relationship with his father, though. Not to go back and forth again in the same fucking post for the eighth time, but that doesn't actually bother me considering the disappointed father routine was handled well enough in the source material.

The plot that the author uses as a parallel for the original movie was cringe worthy as fuck and as Rep already said, for a fic that uses a running motiff, it sure drags its fucking feet over the finish line.

However, all of that bullshit pales in comparison to the real problem I had with this fic, which was that for a romance drama it didn't succeed in making me feel much of anything.

3/5 for decent characterization and technically proficient writing with a well structured (but ultimately unsatisfying) plot.

Can you provide some recs of your own? I've been on a marathon of HTTYD fics in the last week, and I've only found like, 5 readable fics. Even those are fics that I wouldn't put in the library.

    I'm starving.

Well, there's Hitchups and really anything by The Antic Repartee- in particular Crossing the Line. Other than that, I don't know any, but you could check out her favorites. There's a bunch of HTTYD stuff in there I've never gotten around to reading.

I've come accross Crossing the Line before. This: " the aid of two women. HxA, HxC, mild AxOC" made me not open the story.

    What gives?

Eh, relationshippy stuff. Post movie, Hiccup solves problems between the tribes with the help of his bestfriend and sometimes lover while trying to deal with his on-again-off-again girlfriend who doesn't really get what he's trying to accomplish. As he helps the other tribes he grows more distant from his own, but if he tries to confront the issues at home he loses ground with the other tribes. His relationships with Astrid and Camicazi are the micro-representations of his macro problems with Viking culture in general. It's a pretty good read.

That said, if you haven't read Hitchups you really should. By far and away my favorite story in the HTTYD fandom.
