Sounds like the crack-iest Ameriwank HP fic ever.

    I'd read it.

Reminds me of that parody video by indy mogel a few years back. "Harry Potter and the Deadly Hollow Points."

I posted that in the last HP memes thread (and holy shit that was back in 2011 and I can't believe I've been here that long already) and it was immediately dismissed because of the existence of the Imperturbable charm, which I guess would make the Death Eaters pretty bullet proof if they were quick enough to realise what was happening. Not to start another magic vs. technology debate - that can hopefully stay back in 2011.

Still, it's a funny read if nothing else. I still crack a smile at the 7+1 line at the end. I definitely agree with Riley, it would make a good crack fic if it stays completely non-serious the entire time and doesn't turn into a guns/military etc. wank fest.

It's an amusing fic still, but knowing what the author looks like kills it. :(

How do you know what the author looks like? When was this made public knowledge?

He doesn't exactly try to hide. He gives his real name on his ff.net author page as well as links to his stuff. He's involved in the arts and has started a puppetry company. He has the usual youtube channel, vimeo, and tumblr social media wank to raise his profile.

I've never been to his author profile so I didn't really know that. Well then.

There's a 30 Hs thread on DLP somewhere, that's where I saw him dancing in a tutu or something.

My question is, why does knowing what an author looks like matter in any way? How does it affect your enjoyment of a fic?

Think about the Denarian Trilogy. Think about how awesome and amazing the descriptions are and how colorful it is and how much everyone loves it.

Now imagine it was written by Gary Busey....

    kinda hard to reconcile.

I don't know why, but it does. Not necessarily the author's facepic, but his/her general appearance and behaviour. That's why I have difficulties to read stuff of some DLP authors. For me, Tinn's famous Ginny Killoff works, because I know the author could pull it. If Irene would have written it, it wouldn't work that well for me.

In a way it is the same as watching a movie of a novel you read. The better the movie actor matches your image of the characters the more you enjoy it - or at least I do, i.e. watching Alan Rickman as Snape, or Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

Nonjon's fics are so much more awesome given that pic he posted. He looks exactly like I imagined the author of Dimension Hopping for Beginners would look.
