LOL. This is like something written by GRRM.

Canon Harry appearing here is like non-magical Harry appearing in ASOIAF. He will get killed instantly.

Sounds like magic corrupts people's minds in that world. Might explain the "witches are evil" muggle cliche.

I would have thought that the Weasleys would charge exorbitant prices to get muggleborns out of the mainland and then turn them in for the rewards after charging them. That would give Harry a little hope just for it to go "Lol, nope" when he finds out the truth. I guess that could work with Arthur using magic to take control of some muggle business, it gives him resources to run the scam.

Not sure about making Hermione Harry's follower though. I reckon she would consider herself better than anyone else with her skill for magic and resent everyone if they try to "show her her place". Not exactly minion material.

There should also be some laws in which it is acceptable to kill someone rather than just saying that the AK is legal. There should also be some way to make Azkaban worse.

Sounds like one giant crapsack world, where magic makes one go insane. It would be interesting, but the Harry that should crossover, should not be the one from canon. It should be Harry Potter, Master of Death. Than, all potential conflicts could be believable, as Harry would have the means to fight on equal footing.

Or just make so that casting spells costs you your sanity. Or wizards worship the Great Old Ones.

Hell, what would I give to read a good Cthulhu Mythos crossover fic.

While Gentleman Usher of the Scarlet Rod is a good story, for me it isn't a good Cthulhu Mythos tale. It lacks that particual mysterious feel and mounting tension that Lovecraft original works have. And I was talking about a story writen in similar way as the original stories of Lovecraft. Mysterious history, blasphemous cults, ancient tomes of forgotten lore and beings from beyond space and time, which should not be destroyed by a giant, stone penis ;)

Basically this. The conversation would go something like so:

Fudge: If you blame my predecessor for wrongly imprisoning you, don't sue the Ministry and tell us how you escaped Azkaban I won't have you charged for murdering Pettigrew or escaping prison. We'll say you were temporarily insane.

    Sirius: It's a deal.

Dumbledore pats Fudge on the head for doing a good job.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I only spent five minutes on the idea and didn't give a whole lot of thought to intricacies?

Plot Bunny: The DEs take another path at the World Cup, changing Voldemort's plans

Reposted from the Points of Divergence thread.

Point of Divergence: Voldemort's plans get slightly derailed when his Death Eaters get a little over-excited at the Quidditch World Cup.

In GoF, the rioters get a little bit more excitable than usual and decide to rampage a little. Ignoring Lucius Malfoy's advice of only torturing Muggles, Mulciber and Macnair decide to curse some Veelas. Bloodlust is readily cultivated in the din of chaos. Curses are exchanged, and now "dirty" half-breeds are indiscriminately murdered. The xenophobia reaches its peek when a stray Killing Curse hits a member of the Irish Quidditch team. Krum, being who he is, arms the Bulgarian Quidditch players and retaliate in self-defence.

Meanwhile, in the outskirts of the lynch mob, Barty Crouch Jr had gone off the bend after years of subjugation under his father. Year of Imperius Curses does that to your sanity. Instead of firing Morsmodre into the air, Crouch Jr chooses to use that split second to fire a Killing Curse at a trio of teenagers, realising that one of them was probably a Muggleborn. The Curse strikes a bushy haired girl, who falls to the floor as the life in her eyes departs her.

Burning with righteous anger, the girl's companions react with Stunners. Winky interferes, throwing the Invisibility Cloak back onto Barty Crouch Jr, when the Ministry officials stun all the people in the forest clearing. The girl's friends, as one can guess, are Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Noticing their grief-laden expressions, the Ministry doesn't accuse them of the violence, unlike canon, and the two returned to Mr Weasley's custody.

Meanwhile, the casualties in this universe are slightly different. Various Veelas, who are affiliated with the Bulgarian Quidditch League, and members of the Irish National Team (Fan-favourite Barry Ryan and Seeker Aidan Lynch) have been either injured or tortured during the fray. A French national, Gabrielle Delacour, was also killed accidentally in the midst of the Curses. Unlike canon, the international community demands remuneration, and this incident has been elevated to an international crisis. An attack at an international wizarding game? Internationals have been killed?

When the French Ministry, led to Monsieur Delacour, decries the Fudge Administration for its incompetency in ensuring security at the premises, the Ministry of Magic is thrown in havoc. An emergency session of the International Confederation of Wizards has been declared by the Irish Ministry of Magic in Dublin, and Dumbledore suddenly has his attentions drawn away from the homeland. Anti-Fudge sentiment is rising overseas. The Tri-Wizard Tournament, as collateral, has been cancelled and boycotted by the Beauxbatons, derailing Voldemort's plans.

As both Harry and Voldemort deal with the aftermath of this escalating crisis, all parties are drawn to the 75th Session of the ICW in Dublin. The French delegation, led by Delacour, the British delegation from British Mugwump Dumbledore, and the Bulgarian delegation are all expected to confluence in Ireland in 1994. What will happen? How will Voldemort change his plans appropriately to factor in these changes?

How will a grieving, vengeful Harry factor into this new, international scenario?

Yes, this is a good idea. I'm changing the plot bunny to be exactly that.

If that were the premise, would read the shit out of. If I were a more prolific writer, I might even try my hand at it.

    EDIT: New idea?

The wizarding world is a highly cloistered, low-population community that avoids Muggles no because it fears them, but because it has simply decided to ignore them in its extreme affluence and general benevolence when it comes to their non-magical counterparts, sort of waiting for them to die out so wizards can have the entire planet without having to deal with the hassles of conquest, integration, or obliviation.

Most wizards have at least the ability of someone like Dumbledore. Dumbledore himself is something like a god. Even Hagrid is bawss.

Voldemort, a highly-skilled magician confused by the non-imperialistic attitude of the wizarding world, goes about trying to bring them together, violently.

How would it be different? Well, I think of a few things off the top of my head:

    1. The grandeur of magic increases at least tenfold - most wizards are very competent sorcerers, who are nonchalant about the kind of magic canon Dumbledore only breaks out when JKR wants him to seem impressive even to or compared with other wizards. It's like magic on steroids; everything is magnified.

    2. Conflict is inevitably international.

    3. Existence of wizards is inevitably revealed.

    4. Situation is more intense (far more people dying), and much closer to some kind of tipping point: the entire world is going to be either a shitty place or a much better one very soon.

    5. Harry can't be mediocre. It would literally be impossible with magic that powerful/easy, and if he tried to do it the same way he did in canon, he's dead by second or third year - magic in general is too intense, and the kind of feats that made Harry special in canon are all too common, or can at least be matched/replicated.

    Terrible? Perhaps.

    Thoughts?

I'm not sure if this idea has been used before, probably was, but I have not seen it myself.

When Harry has the Sorting Hat put on his head, the universe splits into four versions.

In each version, Harry is sorted to a different house.

However, there is only one Harry. And he has to live in all four worlds, this means that if he's in one of them, he is absent in the rest. Obviously that creates problems, as to others he is only present once every four days.

The Gryffindor world. It is September 1st. Things go as in canon until Harry goes to sleep and wakes up in...

...the Slytherin world. It is September 2nd. Harry is confused as shit, Dumbledore asks why Harry suddenly disappeared when the Hat was put on him. Harry tells that he doesn't understand as he was sorted to Gryffindor and just woke up, but the Headmaster tells him that this is not true. They can't explain anything at all. Finally at the end of the day Harry goes to sleep and wakes up in...

...the Ravenclaw world. It is September 3rd. Once again he is approached by Dumbledore who seems to have forgotten their latest talk. The Headmaster reveals that once the Sorting Hat was put on Harry's head, the boy simply disappeared and only now was found after some time. By this point Harry figured that he's switching between alternate sortings and tells so Dumbledore. The Headmaster at first doesn't believe it, but a quick look into the boy's memories proves that he's telling the truth. As they have no way of stopping it, Dumbledore tells Harry to tell other Dumbledores the truth. Harry goes asleep and wakes up in....

...the Hufflepuff world. It is September 4th. Predictably, he's approached by the Headmaster. By now Harry can explain the situation pretty well to him using the bits of information other Albus provided. It is determined that since Harry will wake up the next day in the Gryffindor world, he is to go to that Dumbledore at once and tell him everything. Meanwhile, due to rules, Harry has to attend classes as a Hufflepuff.

From that moment, everything changes. With four Dumbledores communicating through Harry and with the boy being present at a given place only 1/4 of the time, you are going to have some major butterflies happening.

Especially given that unknown to all, Professor Quirell seems to require a turban only once every four days. He still wears it though, for appearances.

This reminds me tremendously of the television show Awake. Especially the "red" world/"green" world concept of divergences. If a sensible author actually thought about the divergences properly and used them to advance the plot (i.e. information from one world helps with sorting out a problem in another), this bunny could be a goldmine.

Awake is by far my favorite show of all time. 4 universes, while fitting the whole "Sorting Hat multiverse" idea, might be too much. Slytherin and Gryffindor would work thematically, and it fits with my love of the Green v. Red universes of Awake.

Someone should write this, because it would be awesome and fill the void of awake being cancelled long before it's prime.

Interesting, but that's not what I meant. He lives each day in a different world, rotates through them. That's why he's only present 1/4 of the time.

However, your idea also has merit, though I suspect it would be a too big of an advantage.
