Must be since most authors do it. Some are just better at hiding it. ;)

Sadly for you, A Secret of Spells updated yet again with more Hermione over-the-top shit.

Because using her magic to make Joffrey slip in the mud wasn't enough, she then went to his room and did some shit to scare him into treating Sansa better. Yeah, right, that totally won't go wrong. Oh wait, it won't, because the author has a hard-on for Hermione.

It's not enough that her magic functions well with her wand, despite there being no living dragons, no, now she's got Robb along for the ride to the Citadel and that makes MORE sense to her than anything else. Surely, Ned Stark won't bother going after his HEIR or anything, not like they take that shit serious in Westeros.

I just... fuck it. Dropped and I wish I could report this shit for who fucking bad it's going to wind up, but alas...

If it's shit like that, why do you guys keep bringing it up? Let it slide into obscurity and never talk about it again.

I support what Captain Trips said; more recs, please.

So be it. Have a somewhat depressing, somewhat sweet one-shot that I came across in my search today for odd stuff:

    The Long Game

    By labonsoirfemme

    Summary:
By the grace of the old gods, the only children she births to Robert are daughters.

Obviously AU. Good start I think. Looking forward to Lyanna/Jon interactions when they visit Winterfell.
Cersei is in an interesting situation in this fanfic, and also seems to be sorta friends with Lyanna.

Oh lordy, yet another wolf bitch, in heat for Rhaegar, that's so despairing of Robert, who of course, must become as foul and wretched as he is with Cersei, as it surely wouldn't do for him to be any good, now would it? I tire of that.

Sadly, that is all that usually comes of fics where Lyanna still lives and is somehow involved with Robert, all except one fic and that one isn't particularly good.

And the bit with Cersei? Tywin would have sent her to the Septas before allowing her to birth children without naming the father.

    So Soars the Young Falcon
    Salamon2

    Summary:

Denys Arryn did not die at the Battle of the Bells. He instead killed Jon Connington, preventing him from ordering the retreat, leading to the decimation of the Royal Army of King’s Landing with the swarming of the rebel reinforcements upon the walled town of Stoney Sept.

    Everything changes from there.

Interesting AU, the guy posts on AltHistory forums as well, and the upload rate is fast and each chapter is edited by a lot of people on the AltHistory forum.

I like this story. The author is actually making big changes to canon. The only thing that irks me is the author tries a little to hard to write in an older English style.

Yeah but it is pretty easy to ignore though. He is planning to change that in newer chapters

The Open Way - "AU: Robert's Rebellion has been crushed and the Targaryen dynasty continues to reign supreme, yet the Game of Thrones never changes..."

This was rec'd a few pages back and I'm doing so again because it's much longer than it was before. The summary is vague, but basically what's happening is Rhaegar's still not satisfied with his victory and becomes intent with plunging the realm back into war. There's four POV characters so far in the thirteen chapters released, and I like how this story is using underrated characters like Queen Rhaella and Ser Oswell. The details are great, and this fic is great.

4.5/5, for it's attention to detail and originality.

I like the story so far, but hope very dearly that what was revealed in the last chapter (the 14th at this time) does not come to pass and that Ned reaches his destination first.

I hope that as well, but you never know. Could be Lyanna still dies, but Jon lives. That would suck because i actually am interested in reading this Lyanna.

What I liked in this fanfic was the Aerys POVs. They were done well.

Good story, so far, but can't say I'm that fond of Ashara chapters. Might have something to do with how she thought about Jaime and then 'somberly' remembering what could have been with Ned, strikes me as somewhat fickle.

    Loving Rhaelia though.

See, that's something I want too, because I want to see how she deals with the guilt of indirectly having a hand in her brother's and father's deaths. I want to see her actually feel some fucking remorse and not just shunt that shit aside once the Rebellion is concluded.

I doubt 2 men (Lorch and Clegane) can succeed where 7 men nearly failed.

There aren't many 8 feet tall knights, so even not wearing Lannister colors, they are going to be found, recognised, and cut into pieces.

Which would put Tywin in an even more precarious position.

And yeah, Lyanna alive would be interesting. She was robbed of her revenge on Rhaegar, just as Ned was robbed of his on Aerys, and while having a son to spite Rhaegar's memory is nice and all, Jon is also a more legitimate king than Robert. It's bound to cause some strains in the Stark/Baratheon relations. Anyways, good rec.

What gives you the notion that they'll go solely on their own? They'll most likely take more men with them and, unlike Ned Stark and his company, fill the Kingsguard with crossbow bolts because living beats any kind of honor, provided they had any to start with.

The 2 of them were good enough to sneak into the Red Keep and assassinate Elia.

Granted, it was during the Sack of Kings Landing, but it's essentially the same mission in this fiction.

Assassinating Lyanna instead of Elia. If they could do that in canon, I assume they believe themselves to be capable of doing the same to Lyanna. Sneaking into the ToJ, dealing with the guards if need be and killing her. And they don't know where the Kingsguard is. Yeah, they could be with her, but they could also be in Dragonstone, or with the Tyrells. No one in Kings Landing knows for sure.

So why would they bring anyone else, when that would most likely slow them down and the men they bring could blab about it.

Now for the part where they fill the Kingsguard with bolts, good point. I'm fairly certain crossbows are quite uncommon in Westeros though, and arrows, while being able to penetrate chain mail, would fare badly against the quality steel plate that the Kingsguard probably wear.

We're talking about Gregor Clegane here, he'd probably kill them off when the job was done.

I actually read yesterday "The Sworn Sword" and seeing as one rather minor lord, or lady as it were, had crossbowmen in the castle's garrison, I wouldn't say they were that uncommon.

Short stories by GRRM about Dunk and Egg. The first two stories, "The Hedge Knight" and "The Sworn Sword" got adapted into graphic novels too, so there's that. The third story, "The Mystery Knight", so far hasn't been adapted but it will, in good time.

They're pretty good and I highly recommend you read them if you got the time.
