waaaayyy too capable of breaking all the rules of the Narutoverse

    rules of the Narutoverse
    rules of the Narutoverse
    rules of the Narutoverse

    rules of the Narutoverse

Sorry, I can't quite wrap my mind around this definition. Please, do tell, what rules does the Narutoverse exactly have?
What happened in the HPverse that could not have happened in the Narutoverse?
As a matter of fact, shit without apparent basis happens in the Narutoverse far more frequently than in the HPverse, usually with a LOL!Bloodline involved.

    ...

Hello, by the way. I'm new here. Glad to me you all.

    Not a bad read.

Many things canon Hermione could do (or at least was plausibly capable of) would break the Narutoverse, as there is either no equivalent or the skills are bloodline or epic talents: Apparition, the Fidelius Charm, Notice Me Not Muggle Repelling charms, the ability to fly (either charming an object like a broom or via Voldemort's and Snape's unaided flying trick), highly flexible Transfiguration, Legilimency, etc. Even more fundamentally, there's the whole mechanics of casting, where HP magic is fundamentally unlimited (you can in principle cast magic indefinitely), yet chakra isn't.

I think WalkingDisaster has the right of it. If handled clumsily, this has the potential to break an otherwise promising story.

Edit: Yeah, bite me. I'd meant the Muggle repelling magic used in GoF and DH. Doesn't change the point I was making.

    - Apparition: aka Space Distortion aka Kamui. Rare, but not impossible universe-wise.
    - Fidelius Charm: again a form of space distortion combined with a henge
    - Notice me not: Ninjas, duh
    - Ability to fly: summon beasts, Sai's ink beasts (not even boodlines)
    - Transfiguration: basically all elements manipulation, particularly Mokuton
    - Legilimency: Yamanaka Mind arts
    - Mechanics of casting: wand-waving vs. hand seals.
    - HP magic is fundamentally unlimited (you can in principle cast magic indefinitely), yet chakra isn't.
I was under the impression that wizards got tired and that magical exhaustion is a thing (could be fanon though).

    And finally:
    - If handled clumsily, this has the potential to break an otherwise promising story

Doesn't that hold true for just about any and every plot device?

Magical exhaustion is fanon, yeah. Also, I think you're missing the point. There are Naruto equivalents for most HP abilities, yes, but there's nobody in the series that has all of them at the same time. Space/time techniques in particular, which HP wizards have in abundance, are incredibly rare in the Naruto-verse. Summoning contracts aren't exactly common, either.

The greatest advantages that a Naruto shinobi would have over an HP wizard would be speed and Genjutsu, which aren't nearly as potent in the HP-verse. However, since Hermione is a shinobi herself, the former is rendered null and void, and the latter might not even work on a wizard with any sort of grasp on occlumency, depending on how the author decided to interpret the two.

The HP-verse is just too stronf to mix well with most fandoms. Until the end game at least (I'd love to see Hermione try to Protego one of Naruto's latest Rasengan variants).

    Completely Unrelated:

Hey! You write two of my favorite fics, I'm pretty sure.

Unless this is just a massive co-incidence and there's another person who uses that handle from Italy.

    Welcome to DLP.

On Topic: You're right, there are few things that some ninja or another can't do that a Wizard can. That doesn't change the fact that while a ninja with a bloodline might be able to control minds or change their bodily structure in specific ways that they are still heavily specialized to do that. A ninja of Hermione's knowledge and caliber with Magic would be able to replicate the effects of just about any bloodline you can think of, and it'd be about as difficult as waving the wand and saying a couple words.

It's about the utility and the diversity of Magic and it's ease of use compared to the specialization and rigorous training and relative difficulty of use of chakra.

Kamui: Incredibly rare and draining on the user.
Fidelius: No way, the Fidelius literally removes the knowledge of location and existence of a certain place or thing from the minds of those who already know it. En masse. Irresistably. And it cannot be rediscovered without the express action of the secret keeper of the Fidelius.
Notice Me Not: Ninjas are unnoticed via stealth skills, mostly, but those skills can be counter-acted via the detection skill of another ninja. No ninja in existence (that we know of) can counter the Notice Me Not with skill alone because it affects the minds of others and isn't prone to counter-genjutsu tactics.
Ability to Fly: Okay, fair point.
Transfiguration: And what about living transfiguration? Ever seen a ninja turn a tree into a tiger, or vice versa? How about an important scroll into a hair pin? Or an enemy prisoner into a belt that you can wear around yourself? Elemental Manipulation is capable of more incredible specialized feats than elemental transfiguration, but it's far, far more limited than Transfiguration in general.
Yamanaka Mind Arts: Which they either put themselves in danger using, take a lot more time to use, or are much less subtle. Legilimency is immediate, carries no personal risk (except discovery) and doesn't drain the user at all. That's not even getting into the Imperius.

Don't get me started on the Cruciatus. Unbearable pain with no visible spell effect to dodge that lasts as long as the caster wishes that is bad enough to drive experienced operators INSANE.

The other problem is that for all the things Ninjas can do, other ninjas can counter it because they use the same energy/system/base. But Magic is something else entirely, it sits outside the realms of Chakra manipulation completely.

Madara is an incredibly powerful being. He's ancient, powerful, skilled, a genius, and blessed with a godlike bloodline. But Hermione can simply wave her wand at him and turn him into any manner of harmless beasties.

Uchiha Madara, the most terrifying koala/gerbil/bunny/snuggly kitten ever.

Yes, I agree with that. The only difference between the two universes is that in HP the potential skillsets are the same across the board, while in Naruto they are restriced by elemental affinites and bloodlines.
... But then again there's the Sharingan, which almost makes the argument void.

    The Sharingan/Rinnegan is intentionally overpowered.

Notice-Me-Not is a fanon concept, it's not canon at all.

The sharingan is dojutsu that's some bastardized power of a literal god so I'd be surprised if it wasn't OP.

The existence of spells that repulse, repel, and confuse Muggles, muck with their minds and memories, and hide shit from them is strictly canon. It's not the concept of NMN that's fanon, but the name.

(And this story isn't exactly following strict canon anyway, as Hermione's attempted correspondence of HP runes and Naruto seals indicates, the former being nothing but a useless, dead language.)

You linked to the 6th chapter. I was so confused because there wasn't any character development or anything and it just jumped right into Sakura/Hermione at the library.

    LEARN TO LINK BETTER.

I know this is a stupid question, but is there any readable (and maybe good) fic with naruto having foxes as summoning animals? Toads are a little lame...

Oooh, there is one. It's not one of the best ones, but it's at least readable. Maybe a 3/5? I'll try to find it but a preliminary search is turning up dry for me.

First click took me to the Home Improvement website. When I came back and tried again it went nowhere. Mysteries.

    This should work, I think?

That's one of the main premises of Vulpine.

If I remember right, the fic is mostly semi-serious fun with summons and a super strong Team Seven. Good for wasting an afternoon.

It might be just be me but it looks like this link is broken. It seems to be attempting to redirect to what you were trying to link through a home improvement site.

I came across this fic on adultfanfiction.net. called "The Secret Technique."
    http://naruto.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600105422&chapter=01
The story is pretty good of course there are lemons in each chapter. Sakura's mother takes advantage of Naruto by teaching him a sex technique when he is young, and of course he ends up sleeping with many of the older kunoichi along wiht is his own generation of girls.
