Geez, a romance between two members of two different, warring families, that has never been done before.

Sorry but I have zero interest of any kind whatsoever in a spinoff with a female main character on CW. I have exactly no faith in their ability to write characters at all outside of the original Supernatural much less good female ones.

I agree that the female presence on this show is shocking. And the villains are myopic. C'mon, is it really that hard to add a female protagonist? You had plenty to choose from in the beginning: Jo, Meg, Bela (somewhat), Ruby (errr). Yet all the women on this show are not likeable or written properly. It's as if this show has a vested interest to focus on the homoerotic relationships.

Wait... Never mind. I realized what type of vociferous fanbase this show has.

I honestly don't know how much of it had to do with the fans and I don't want to place too much blame at their feet. IIRC they had a bit of a fit when the writers tried to add females in Season Three, but the writers have their own problems. But then, they seem to make characters. I wonder how much fan response had to do with Castiel's role. He was surely big before that right?

The Harvelles dying was understandable since y'know, the show was ending but since then? Horrible. Some of the female characters start out with the horrible handicap of being obstacles to the stuff we like about the show (most recently Sam's latest romantic reason to disturb our hunting scenes in S8), which then means that we need a ton of good writing to overcome which they don't get imo.

I mean, I can't imagine responding any way but negatively to Sam's flashbacks in S8. Am I supposed to really care when important hunting shit is on the line? It's almost as if you're not supposed to care about such characters.
If they can write DJ Qualls into a supporting role they should be able to do it so I imagine that there's just a lack of will somewhere for some reason. Like I said part of the format of the show might explain the reluctance-two brothers on the road, no space in the car- but this hasn't hurt any of the male supporting cast so it's weak.

What do people like Benny offer that a female couldn't?

If I remember correctly, the female characters in season 3 were forced onto the writers by the network. Back then Supernatural was surrounded by a sea of female-centered shows like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, etc. Backlash was imminent, especially because they had the girls constantly one-up the brothers.

Ellen and Jo dying was sad, but necessary. If no one of consequence died in the quest to stop Lucifer that would be terrible writing. However, Ellen and Jo disappeared up until then because of fan backlash against Jo. This was because in her first episodes she was pretty much nothing but a blatant love interest to Dean. She got better eventually, but the damage was done.

I have no idea what the writers were doing with that Sam/Amelia bullshit. I was so fucking bored watching it that I can't comprehend how anyone thought this was a good idea for the show. You'd think by now the writers would realize no one watches this show to see any of the brothers in a romantic relationship.

I have liked some female characters though. The first Meg was absolutely brilliant. That little girl possessed by Lilith in season 3 was perfect. Ellen and Jo were great, and I was pleased Jo came into her own. Sheriff Mills is alright.

I don't think Supernatural is afraid to kill off any of its male supporting characters. John, Rufus, Bobby, Zachariah, Uriel, Gabriel, Adam, and there are probably more.

The problem is that the male characters are usually better written and acted than the female characters so we care more when losing one of them than we do when a woman dies.

My biggest complaint about deaths in this show is the number of times Castiel has died and randomly reappears with the non-explanation "God did it." If you are not going to commit to a character's death then stop killing them.

I think the monsters are allied, in a similar manner to how organised crime families are allies.

Or bare minimum if they want to say "God did it" they could have Chuck get off his lazy alcoholic ass and explain why. That's something I'd like to see.

Is it bad that I'm more invested in Ed and Harry's friendship than I am Sam and Dean's?

Say what you will about the Ghostfacers, but those two are pretty damn good at doing drama.

    I just had an idea,
    Metatron
    had the
    tablets
    concerning
    Angels and Demons
stolen. The thing is that there is the
    Leviathan tablet
still out there, it may be not as useful, but it is
    a Word of God.
    I can understand why the
    angel tablet
was taken, but why the other one.
It would allow humans and angels a better chance at fighting and dealing with the enemy, so why interfere. I suppose he might want to keep humanity and angels occupied, but still, the only good demon is a dead demon.
If that one threatened him, then the sole remaining one may as well. We do not yet know the full extent of each one, so it could hide or lead to secrets that may threaten his power base.
Kevin was a prophet and his ghost may yet retain his power, especially if he possesses someone, so they could potentially get it translated. Also, if both hell and purgatory has secret ways in, wanna bet that they may be something like a reaper back door into heaven?

    A Ghostfacers episode...
    About Slender Man...
And it still managed to not be funny.

What is this I don't even

I definitely wasn't expecting to have to take a Ghostfacers episode so seriously. The actors were shockingly good at the drama, but it was definitely unexpected. The episode itself was nothing special, but I suppose the novelty of seeing Ed and Harry again made up for it.

10 minutes into last weeks episode, and I was incredibly confused about what the fuck was going on.

Then I realized that this was an introduction to the characters for the spin off.

And it started to actually make sense.

Spin off might actually be interesting. I haven't finished the episode though, so I say that tentatively.

Episode wasn't anywhere near impressive enough to merit a spin-off. It wasn't funny, nor was it all that dark. Very CW feel to it though.

'Oh no, my ex is getting married...'

'Oh no, I don't want to marry him! yer my wun twoo luv...'

    :wall:

    Catbug writes better drama.

Yeah, I thought it had potential about 20 minutes in, but it kind of just dragged on and the actual long term plot points seemed a little stale.

Seems to me like they just wanted another supernatural TV series, with more drama and love stories(CW Style). Instead of creating a new universe, they decided to use an already existing once. The episode felt odd. I think I would have liked the characters more if the episode still followed Sam and Dean as they interacted with these characters. Instead we got a pilot episode of a new show with Dean and Sam as cameo's.

Okay, catching up on a few Supernatural episodes:

Saw the episode with the vampire nest, and I rather liked that. Not because of Sam and Dean, they were as terrible as they usually are when they interact with people, which was odd, since Dean and Sam had been getting a bit better during the season, and I wondered why the regression. I mean sure, I am actively on Team Crowley right now, hoping that he will win because I find him to have more integrity than either one of the Winchester brothers, but still, they seemed worse than some time now.

I realized that it was because they interacted with decent people, which made them seem as bad as they are, whereas only seeing them and people as fucked up as them makes us forget how shitty people they are.

However, I did really enjoy the sheriff and her budding relationship with the kidnapped girl. I mean, there were quite a few mold-breaking things that happened this episode: For one, neither the sheriff nor the girl died. To be honest, I was rather certain that she was going to die this episode, as she is a female with a name and personality, which is a guaranteed death sentence for any women not named Felicia Day. And the even more surprising development where the show didn't bend reality to make sure that Dean was right all the time, as in, the girl didn't have to die, and in fact, didn't die.

So yeah, that was awesome. The vampires themselves weren't that interesting, nor was anything about the execution of the episode. However, I am really invested in this mother daughter relationship that these two broken people will have and how they are going to bond over the years. Will they continue hunting or something? Then there is the fact that both can learn from the other. No doubt, the girl has picked up some fighting tricks or knowledge on monsters on general over the years of living with vampires, whereas the sheriff can teach her how to integrate better into society again, or show her the hunting stuff she learned from Dean and Sam, and her own cop training.

So, yeah, that's what made this episode so good, the promise of stuff that I know they are never going to show. I am kind of wishing this would be the spin off, not the Chicago bullshit.

    Bloodlines:

Well, starts with man loosing his girlfriend/fiancée and vowing revenge, which is as generic and trite as the introduction of a character can be, fitting quite well in the supernatural world, where dead female characters are the backbone of the plot. So, another angry dude angsting about his dead girlfriend isn't really something that I am interested in watching. And lol, he has father issues as well. Really coming up with original ideas for him, I hope they have some creativity left for the other characters.

Other side with the estranged family son who is the voice of reason but still mischievous isn't particularly interesting as well, especially his story-line with the ex-girlfriend/damsel in distress despite being a werewolf (which is quite the feat), although he is the more likable character of the two, albeit only slightly. Really, really slightly. Him bitching to/about his girlfriend was seriously tiring, as are his family issues. Really, the only time I kinda liked him was when he faced off against angry dude.

Rest of the episode was rather meh. Dean light was a bore, the fact that Sam wasn't already on the cellphone idea but had to be reminded was unbelievable and I am sick and tired of enemies never killing main characters but rather knocking them unconscious and then tying them up for absolutely no reason.

So, yeah, really didn't like it and while I am going to give the new series a chance, I seriously doubt it will even be only half as "good" as Supernatural's worst season. There were no fresh ideas at all that were set up, all seeming generic.

Edit: Besides, what is with this five families of monsters bullshit? The hell is there even a contest when one of the fractions is the Djinn family? Weren't they relatively overpowered? And how are the demons letting them get away with stuff like that, and other hunters. Did it escape everyones notice that Chicago has so many coordinated monsters in it?

Yes, I truly taken aback when both the women survived the vampire episode. Then I realised that the producers will have them in another episode within a year, and kill them then.

I thought the Five Families thing in its entirety was retarded, Sam, Dean and shitloads of other hunters have been to Chicago multiple times and fought everything from faeries to the literal Devil. I refuse to believe a monster mafia controlling a major US city would completely slide by everyone. If we have to have a spinoff I for one vote for a series about the King of Hells time displaced son, that could be goddamn hilarious.

I'm pretty sure I read a story a little like that ... the Apocalypse kicked off about fifteen years early, and the Anti-Christ was still in his teenage rebellion stage. He was a vegetarian, and studying Buddhism. I think he tried to run off to Tibet.
