I think the only Harry Potter crossover I've enjoyed was Browncoat, Green Eyes.

Never read it. Does it need a lot of Firefly knowledge?

Not in particular. Sure, it helps if you do know some stuff, but it won't impede you from enjoying it.

I don't think I knew anything at all about Firefly beyond that it was a canceled TV show that nerds liked when I read Browncoat, Green Eyes and it wasn't at all a problem. I eventually looked up what happened in Firefly canon but that was out of curiosity more than due to being confused about any part of the backstory.

    Pet peeve: the word 'sexily'.

Well, not really the word itself, but what it entails. It's the ultimate embodiment of telling instead of showing. Authors seem to think that by just using it, they've written a literary masterpiece when it's actually the opposite.

When I read "She sexily removed her clothes" I don't imagine a striptease capable of arousing a gay man, instead I imagine some drunk bimbo trying to strip, but who keeps falling over and vomits on herself at least once.

Same with "He sexily kissed her". In that case I imagine tentacle face-rape à la Pirates of the Carribean.

Funny, 'erotically' gives the same impression, more or less, to me.

The scary thing is that I can actually see that being said on certain Food Network shows :)

I think the question is why the fuck you haven't watched Firefly yet?

You don't NEED to have seen the show, but you should. Then you should read this fic. It's great.

You're thinking of Evil Be Thou My Good. And I agree that it's awesome, in its own over-the-top gory way.

Awaken Sleeper by Watermage and the above linked EBTMG are both awesome. And I think Circular Reasoning is also technically a xover because Mab is there. I can't remember. Damn, I need to go and start from the beginning NAO.

I hate it when character's are saving someone's life or are trying to clear their name because they were setup for murder and then they go and start killing. It completely defeats the purpose and makes their entire journey hypocritical.

An example. I'm watching agents of shield and this guys need some miracle drug whatever to heal someone. They find a super secret place and they don't know the pass code which means that they are tress passers and the guys inside can't know who they are.

So this shield guys break in and proceed to murder the security guys, that shit is just annoying since they've just taken two innocent lives(guys doing their jobs) to save another one. Fuck that.

That's just because those mooks didn't have names.
You can be sure, that named baddies get an offer to surrender in the same show/story.
Same thing happens with bodyguards often enough. They can't possibly know that their boss murders babies in his spare time, but they still get murdered by the hero out for revenge.

Pet peeve: When Harry undergoes some 'amazing' transformation and suddenly has long, flowing hair.

Or even when he just gets older or younger in any way - why does he suddenly have long, luscious locks sprouting down to his shoulders, his waist, or - god forbid - his ankles. I can't believe I actually saw that one.

Isn't this just a bit ridiculous? What's the fascination with giving Harry long hair?

If you ever see mention of Harry's hair as 'locks' in a fic run away. Most of the time that sort of thing tends to be found in slash shit.

Oh, god yes. I avoid slash fics for that reason.
I've come across this a lot in Dark Harry fics, though, which is a bit worrying…
How is he supposed to carry out all his dark deeds when he's busy spending hours combing his hair?

So I've been reading the Worm fictions on spacebattles, and a significant percentage of them have Taylor with a different power set fighting Lung in the first scene. She proceeds the fight Lung head on, and win. This just does not compute.

Maybe its just my own view of Lungs power, influence a little by Ryuugi's fic, but one defeats Lung by fleeing, not by cutting his arm off. Maybe some of those fics would be readable, but the fight going that way just breaks immersion, and I can't help but quit reading.

If your going to give Taylor a power that she can use to straightforwardly defeat Lung with almost no experience using it, then how am i supposed to believe that there will be meaningful conflict?

The best parts of Worm were watching Taylor figure out how to achieve her goal by use of a power that is not immediately obvious in its applications, not just pupstomp in a masturbatory exercise.
