Cat isn't only a bitch, she is a dumb bitch. After reading the books I came to the conclusion that everyone who is redhead and from Tully lineage is too dumb to live.

The link to the fic, as asked. I give it a 3.5-4/5, it gets better as the story goes on, and the characters are impressivily spot-on to me.
    Times like these.

Yeah, I can understand the Cat hatred. Her only good trait is her devotion to her family. Though, I think if one starts early enough in the timeline, one can improve her character into a better direction...

I never understood why she hated Jon, but not Ned. It's completely illogical, seeing as he didn't have a say in his conceiving.

Well, I would guess that it's because he's her husband and Lord of Winterfell. He has power over her and hating him would be quite counterproductive to Cat being his wife. Jon, OTOH, is a young bastard whose only protection is Ned. I think she's only focusing her hatred on the only target left to her, even though he has no blame in this situation. He also reminds her of her husband's deed.

And she views Jon as a threat to her children's birthright. All she's basically there for is providing children and heir's to Winterfell, meanwhile there's Jon son of some random woman Ned boned who could make everything she's done and her children stand for worthless. Spend years pumping out kid after kid only for Ned to name Jon Lord of Winterfell on his deathbed. You can bet the Blackfyre's were on her mind every time she looked at Jon and thought on how much he looked more Stark than her kids did.

He should have stopped her then. Ned, I mean. In a way, he was a failure to Jon, because Jon felt so loathed in Winterfell, that he willingly went to the Wall and joined the Night's Watch, even when he found out how most of the black brothers were basically the scum of the Seven Kingdoms.

For once, I'd really like to come across a fic where Jon just doesn't take Catelyn's shit so bloody calmly.

Had it not been for Ned, and for the rest of the children, except Sansa, and the way they cared for Jon, her fears would have come true. Because, honestly, how the fuck do you not expect someone to hate you, perhaps even so much that the hate transfers onto your kids, when you treat them like shit? The true way to eliminate any threat to her children is to raise him right and proper, make sure he loves his half-siblings and would never stand in their way.

But hey, we're talking about a Tully here, common sense is beyond them.

Was she not also afraid that any descendants Jon could have would end up stealing Winterfell from her descendants? Or is that just fanon?

    Perfect example of Catelyn's character:

She only listens to herself, she told Robb time and again to do one thing while she did something entirely different.
In other words: do as a tell, not as I do.

Nope, that's one of the main reason, the other is the same one as why Snape hates Harry, Jon is the living proof the Ned loved other, more than he loved her at the time. Also, the only time Ned scared her was when she asked about his mother, so there's that too.

Hey Odran, with your hate of Tullys, what do you think of this?

Yeah, I'm not gonna bother reading that. I've had a lovely day so far, no need to ruin it with some excuses that will most likely consist of "she's a woman in a man's world, everything she did is excused by her maternal instincts and feelings of grief and sorrow". It's the same shit that people are trying to peddle and excuse Cersei's actions with.

The author makes some good points, and Catelyn isn't a complete idiot, the problem is, her desires always overcomes her duties. The opposite of Jon, Ned and just like Sansa. She is intelligent and brave without a doubt, but she always put her passion above all, and it always fails her. Her priorities are bad, and everybody suffered because of that, just like Sansa.

Also, the author keeps hitting the same tab, woman/mother intruding... It's not (mainly) that, just look at Dany, she did some shit, but she is good enough to overcome that, look at Margaery, she is good.

Intelligent? 'Tis wouldn't be the word I'd use to describe Catelyn Stark.

Well I don't think she's unique in that attitude. Euron's new mistress from the shield isles had the same (worse) stuff happen to her, only her father didn't stop his wife or true born daughters treating her like shit. Of course when the Ironborn came she went over to them more than willingly.

So yeah it seems like an almost universal attitude, but things could have gotten worse than they did if Ned hadn't been there, or a different man. I do wonder how she would have coped with Brandon though, considering Martin said it was quite possible he had some unacknowledged children running around and was likely to have had more than a few bastards if he had lived.

Cat's issue was that she was never meant to have married Ned and she was always terrified that he would replace her children with his supposed son by his great love, Ashara Dayne.

The thing I never got though was how no one ever remarked how weird it was for Ned to have a child out of wedlock but would make much more sense for his father, brother or even sister to be the Stark parent. I wonder if the northern lords ever talked about it? I mean gossiping about Jon is something I have no doubt they would have done.

On topic: I'm really starting to lose interest in the Young Falcon. Plus Tarly running off with only 500 men is so freaking dumb I can not conceive of how the author can think it's something he would do.

Because if your incredibly dutiful and honourable Lord says that a shiny rock is his son, you believe that that rock is his son.

He doesn't though. I can't recall a moment in the books where Ned says Jon is his son. He says they share blood often enough. But he never says he is Jon's father from what I can recall.

I like Catelyns reasoning in this, he is half Dornish, therefore Winterfell will be filled with his bastards as soon as he can make them.
