The open way has had an update, Tygett this time, pretty good chapter overall. There was another chapter, the one before that came out a week or so ago, but no one mentioned it. That one covers what's going on in Dorne.

    The Icy Tide by TheLawWon

The War for the Iron Throne marches on while The King of Winter fights for his family and his people. Unlikely alliances spark a shift in the tide of the war, while events north of the Wall threaten to destabilize the entire realm. A/U following GoT

    - Good fic with a good premise and pacing so far. Worth keeping an eye on.

I'd recommend against The Icy Tide because it reads like the early stages of a bad fix-fic.

For example, Rickard Karstark makes a personal attempt at killing Jaime, is sullen because he lands in prison, and then makes a complete 360 when Robb tells him that he plans to take Casterly Rock. This is all the more ridiculous because Robb is planning to hand Casterly Rock over to Balon in exchange for Balon bending the knee.

Yeah, it's a bit of a fix-it for the North - although I don't think of it as a 'bad' one - by setting them up in a stronger position but I don't get your issue with what you stated. Rickard Karstark wants to take vengeance on the Lannisters and tries to do that by killing Jaime, he's imprisoned and obviously pissed by that. Robb persuades him that instead of killing a valuable hostage he could be taking his vengeance by taking the seat of Lannister power, Casterly rock, and Rickard is persuaded of the logic and agrees to hold off from his vengeance. That's why the fic is considered an AU, because Robb didn't persuade Karstark in canon.

In canon, Richard Karstark and 7 of his retainers murdered the Lannister kids after Cat had released Jaime. Having him make a similar attempt on Jaime in CoK is an acceptable PoD, but not in the manner laid out in the fic. It removes one of the factors that led to Robb's downfall in canon with no consequences for Robb, even though it should've blown up into a huge, horrible mess whether Jaime died or not.

Probably the best "fix-it" Stark fic I've read.

I liked it purely from a wish-fulfillment perspective. I don't know about the story's technical merits, though.

EDIT: I will say there was something ingenious about the idea that guest privileges to one's "home" does not transfer to a tent city outside the city gates...

I'm giving you a thumbs up, Hashasheen, because you didn't go for the horrible cliche of a romance between Lyanna and Rhaegar and it's so fucking sad how rare that is. And I'm probably going to read through the rest of it, because hey I got an exam tomorrow early in the morning, so what better way to prepare than by reading fanfiction?

What A life I Might Have Known
Five worlds that Jon Snow could have lived in and the one that he wanted to live in.

I'd like to see # II, III and IV turned into full stories.

I've finished reading what you wrote so far, Hashasheen. Now comes the hard part.

    The waiting for more. FUCK!

Also, kudos for that recommendation Himuradono. I don't usually like those alternative takes, and I think I've mentioned my distaste for Rhaegar/Lyanna shit before, so that one part of the fic where she spurns him and wants to go North is fantastic. I still wish though the cunt had died instead of Ned.

Quite impressive work, can´t imagine how much work writing/managing such a story/game is especially of such quality.

I really like what has happened sofar because you managed to capture the ASoIF feeling while avoiding Canon rehash. Will be interesting to see if the luck of the players holds or if it all comes crashing down.

They've spent the last ten hours and 21 pages debating what name to pick and why it would matter. It doesn't. At All.

Stormcrown was a tip of the hat to Arlan/Skyrim and acknowledgement of Jon's root.
Blackfish was a tip of the hat to Brynden and acknowledgement of his mentor since he was getting knighted without him.
Greystark was because it's a Stark name and I thought it sounded cool.
Winterwood because Old Gods, Long Night, etc...
Jon Snow of Winterfell because they didn't want to decide yet.

Nice and simple. I even included a damn write-in in case anyone came up with anything better than mine, and some actually did. The others...

What do I get? I get twenty one fucking pages of paranoia about whether or not Robert would take their head off for calling themselves Stormcrown, wanting a double head of a dragon and wolf spewing black fire while surrounded by roses, and people referring to nonexistentional oaths in order to not take a name right away.

See what happens when you give people ideas like democracy and other such nonsense?
Dictatorship is the only true way to run a game. I went through that thread and the latest paranoia, pretty lulzy all things considered.

Born To Glory:facepalm Jesus Christ, this made my day.

@Hashasheen - the true beauty of RPGs. Players overthink everything. Always. My players in Call of Cthulhu, after one encounter with a room spilling blood out of the walls and a murderous bed that wanted to throw them out of window, started to carry their shotguns everywhere. It almost killed them in the end - getting mind controled while having a loaded weapon is not a good idea :awesome

The Open Way has been updated with a Oswell chapter. It mostly contains conversations about recent events in the story.
