I should've figured that out a bit earlier. Thanks. I'm grabbing them on Amazon right now.

I don't suppose anyone knows if THIS copy of Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, for sale on Gamersgate, can be redeemed on Steam?

It says it "Can" be activated on Origin, but doesn't say it must be activated on Origin... That's some wishful fucking thinking right there.

I've got a feeling it's Origin-only, but $4.99 is pretty sweet, so I'd rather be sure than dismiss it out of hand. If it can't be activated on Steam, I guess I'll have to keep waiting for it to become a Daily Deal/Flash Sale/Community Choice, because the only price that's right to put up with Origin, IMO, is free.

With my luck, though, it will come up for Community Choice and not get picked, like nearly everything I've voted for... :facepalm

Hehe, I was hoping to avoid Origin, if I could (and I was paying for it), but I wouldn't turn my nose up at it if you had a copy to throw at me.

And, where do you get those wonderful toys? :p

Big Z is awesomesauce - generous with his friends, ruthless with his trades. He's involved in the digital game & items trading scene and has a nose for bargains.

    All true...

However, I'm just a little amused, since that sounded like a short character summary, for those who haven't read the comic (or, in this case, haven't witnessed prior evidence of his savvy and largesse in the Steam and Santa threads, over the years) in a while. Kind of makes me wish you had put it in a yellow box and signed it as "Editor." :D That begs the question, though, that if Big Z is a superhero, is "Big Z" the real name, or the hero persona?

In other news: Anyone get anything during the sale they're really enjoying... or the opposite? It's been pretty quiet in here, all things considered. I've mostly just been collecting DLC for games I already have (and, thus, sorting through my Fallout: New Vegas mods), so nothing too exciting to report, yet.

Actually, in my world, getting DLC for pennies on the dollar kind of is exciting...

I trade and usually pay less than Steam's normal prices. That's why it's so easy to drop a shit ton of money during these sales.

Paid ~$7 for Skyrim LE, ~$6 for Naruto, $5 for Lego Hobbit, etc etc.

I was kind of scared away from it by the reports of its unoptimized console grotesqueness crushing the ever-lovin' shit out of PCs (with way more power than mine has) that should be running it like a dream, since they're more powerful than the consoles.

If the game is so carelessly ported and poorly put together that it can bring a Titan rig to its knees, with even CoD's relatively antiquated graphics, I'm not sure I want to know what it will do to my PC, which is a champ but admittedly a bit long in the tooth (it's old enough that you can't get ram for it, but you can buy it orthopedic shoes and a bus ticket to Florida).

I considered Black Ops II but, frankly, I promised myself I'd only spend a certain amount on this sale, and that would put me over... Also, in my opinion, games like the CoD:MW series should, by rights, get discounted earlier and more heavily than most other (mainly single player) games, because the replayability is so heavily dependent on a multiplayer community that moves away, en mass, when a new game in the series is released. Which leaves you with a severely handicapped game that, mysteriously, still demands close to its original release price, even from online retailers.

I get on MW3 and it's a ghost town, just me and a handful of Eastern Europeans... and my connection to them is such that I end up playing what looks like it's a slideshow of a hypothetical vacation where I got my ass kicked for being on downers near the Russian border.

Bearing that in mind, Black Ops II should have plummeted in price the second Ghosts came out, but you'll note they're the same price. Aaaanyway, that's just my logic... logic which may be skewed by my aching wallet.

Which is my idiosyncratically long-winded way of saying that it grates on me that, over a year and half since BOII came out and a sequel came along to steal its vital online players, $30 is considered a good discount.

Frankly, I wouldn't even be considering either of them if they didn't have bots, so I can play 'multiplayer' without my connection being a factor... something I was under the impression MW3 had when I bought it, only to discover the person I'd been speaking to must have been high.

Still, I hope anyone who buys either of them enjoys the hell out of them. At the end of the day, shooting digital stuff with digital firearms is fun.

Luftrausers looks neat. Has anyone played it?

I just noticed you're a fellow red team member. We're in the lead, today.

Call of Duty games will never ever go below 50% discount. Ever. That's just Activision's shitty policy.

Best quote I could give you for Ghosts would be ~$20 and that's probably the lowest you'll see it for a while. Hell, lowest I could give you a quote for BOII would probably be around $17ish and that's been out for ages now.

Paid $9 for Darksiders I & II, plus all DLCs. and $2,50 for BrĂ¼tal Legend. I need your opinion, do you guys think Rome II and Shogun II DLCs will get lower than 50%?

    You just said a mouthful.

See, 20-25 for Ghosts would be almost generous, if one can run it, and 17 for BOII would be more than respectable.

Charging 40+ for BOII, at this point, though, just seems shameless to me (again, Activision, go figure...).

I just take issue with any game that tries to keep its prices high for years on end, when the bulk of its functionality relies on a community (though I'm loathe to refer to fellow CoD players by that term) that will move on the minute the next game hits.

On the other end of the spectrum, I paid less than three dollars for Terraria and... shit, I'm embarrassed at how many hours I've logged in that game, without a single other player needing to get involved. They could have started that game at $20 or $30 and kept the price high for ages, and at this point I probably couldn't complain; I've definitely milked that much out of it.

If the main game the DLC is attached to becomes a Daily Deal, Flash Sale, or Community Choice, they'll go lower.

For instance, Borderlands 2 and its DLC is discounted for the duration of the Steam sale, but I waited until Borderlands 2 was a Daily Deal, and the DLC all went down even further.

If the games don't become included in one of the 'big three' (daily, flash, community), or you already missed them when they were on sale (I can't say I was paying attention to either of those games), then they probably won't go any lower... unless the main game returns on the last day of the sale in one of those categories.

An adequate commentary on Steam Sales :)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr2GdRBDOmU

There's also a summer sale at GOG - they rotate every 2 hours a number of flash sales (usually 75%-90%).
Every day there are also two bundles - for the next 3 hours it's HoMM I-V and Bullfrog Games.

I don't know what you mean by "the comic", but if you meant comic books in general, then perhaps this will assuage your craving:

C'mon guys. If you just read the thread during non-major steam times, you would have gotten that all those titles were previously in a HB :(

I always read this thread, because I'm subscribed to it, but I also have a memory like a vacuum-powered sieve with a wood chipper underneath it. :facepalm

Every good little DLP Scout should be subscribed, so they can get their "Fuck Retail Price" er "Who Pays Retail?" merit badge.

Is everyone here aware of Is There Any Deal.com, already? I thought I'd mention it, just in case.

Either I literally meant that your description read like the notes comic book editors write to let people who haven't read previous issues know what they've missed, or it was just a metaphor for being familiar with the history of a thing... or I literally meant that I see DLP as a comic book I've been reading for the past near-decade and I've apparently got bigger problems than just a leaky memory.

It was mostly the first one, and a little of the second.

Look at you, you smooth bastard...
