Since Mommy dearest started making deals with Tyrells. God, now I remember why I dropped this fic.

Yeah, reading about scheming women isn't exactly something that appeals to me either.

Wow, The Open Way updated and uh, shit goes down to say the least.

I can't believe I am saying this, but after this chapter I actually find myself rooting for Rhaegar.

I was about to post something similar, Halfwaydecent.
I honestly don't know what to think of this chapter. I like it, but I think Rhaegar is a bit too omnipresent. Jesus, though: he planned his own Red Wedding. Rhaegar is definitely a bit of a sociopath, but I'm happy he one-upped the Lannisters.

I agree with that, I honestly don't know what to think of this chapter at the moment.

Rhaegar definitely seemed way to Omnipotent and there was no real need to kill Oberyn, it seemed like the author just threw that one in there to add to the shock factor of this chapter. The taunting before Oberyn died seemed odd to because Rhaegar never really explained why he was so much better than Oberyn he just kind of said "yeah, I'm a better person than you, have fun dying with that in mind." Rhaegar also does not seem to be thinking about the North much with regards to his decisions in this chapter which will probably backfire spectacularly if Benjen has anything to say about it.

The only way I can see this fic will have a satisfactory end is if the Others invade the south, kill every single person of Valyrian origins (yes, I'm willing to see Jon dead for this too) and then fuck off back to the Lands of Always Winter. Because there had to be a reason why the Dragonlords of Old Valyria didn't even try to invade Westeros at the peak of their empire.

Am I the only one who feel sorry for poor Richard in the recent chapter of The Open Way?
I actually liked him, a shame he was killed off.

No, you're not the only one.

I'm honestly not sure who I'm cheering for in the fic. On the one hand, I find it amusing how badly everyone is underestimating Rhaegar, but on the other, his reluctance to explain his motives to others is incredibly aggravating.

Considering that the Targaryen survived the Doom solely because of Daenys's prophetic visions, surely it can't be that difficult to convince his family that the Others are coming?

A little? The story lost steam about three hundred thousand words ago. I was just ending it for closure and what unfortunately little closure it provided. Ehhh. I guess it stands as one of the only epic level ASOIAF stories but ehhh is all I can say.

A quick question, is The North Remembers worth reading?

There is certainly worse ASOIAF works. Its really the first and maybe only one of its kind to go for the epic scale of GRRM. Does it do it great? Ehhh. I would give it a run. I found myself breezing through some shit and really only reading other parts.

I finally decided to start reading some fics from this fandom, after I read hash's quest thing, which I found quiet entertaining. I previously read PWWP and found it a bit too generic and predictable, and I didn't see what all the praise was about. So then I found this thread, and went through some of the recs on the first page (Which are about 2 years old now). I read through the first part of Ned Stark Lives! and am unsure if I want to continue. I enjoy all of the chapters except the Starks, and especially arya, because they just keep repeating themselves over and over, and I dislike the arya/gendry pairing a lot... she's 10, and her character here is about as OOC as they get, which is annoying since she is one of the best POV's in the books. My only other gripe is the over use of recycled canon lines, as well as just rehashing whatever the ASOIAF wiki happens to say (very obvious when we first meet Roslin). I started some other stories, and finished a few of the shorter ones, but there just doesn't seem to be that many above-average fics.

There are definitely some great reads, though you'll find plenty of crack ones too. What type of fic are you looking for? Love story stuff? Family? Continuation of the books? AU?

    Here's a new fic: A Knight's Watch.

Very much in the vein of a Better Fate, but without the Essos trip and, at least for me personally, less enjoyable.
It's a tad too full of angst and seems to be shaping up to be yet another Jon/Sansa ship, but other than that it's an alright piece of work with decent sized chapters and the author has put out chapters pretty frequently. It's a decent enough time waster anyway.

Considering the pairing is listed as Jon/Sansa, that's probably a good assumption.

I didn't mind it, but there definitely is a lot of angst. I'm also waiting for a fic where Jon actually makes a difference in the War of Five Kings, by being on the side of Robb.
