    That second one so much. Every year.

    I hated my english teacher for that actually. I remember this one time book was 150$ but my father earned about 500$ month. I was young back than jr.high so didn't care much but looking back at that time now, I feel angry.

    I hope teachers will try to pull same thign in the future with my kids so I can punch them in the face.

    Really? My English teachers either lent us books (upon pain of death), or set us stuff that was out of copyright. It wasn't like we ever used annotated textbooks, and I presume those are what would make it expensive. They told us if we couldn't analyse the text then we were going to fail anyway.

    I just torrent the textbooks or, in the case of math books, I just get older copies or international editions. Fuck, the stats book I used last semester was from 2001 and it had the same practice problems as the 2013 copy.

    Sorry, I wasn't entirely clear on this in my post: I mean among super mormon families and communities, there's no fucking way even a rumor of something like "soaking" would escape being passed around, and neither I nor any of the Reddit commentors who grew up as such had heard of it.

    That said, more than a few people from Utah wards posted saying that it was definitely a thing that was either done or was talked about growing up. What part of Utah are you in, out of curiosity?

    Grew up in Taylorsville, a suburb just south of the city proper such as it is. I left the church (except church ball and scouts) when I was 12, so it's not that surprising I've never heard of it in retrospect.
