Well, if the latter happens, I imagine he's going to be rather pissed off. And sticky.

Yeah, bad memories from seeing all those photos.

    I uh.... what?

Gallery flees because of what happened to Alberforth like he flees because of what happens to Marianna
So he still becomes a Dark lord and still terrorises Europe
And it's said Alberforth was Ariannas favorite brother, the one who took care of her so she blames Albus like Harry hates the Dursleys

Your ideas arn't bad, but your grammar and syntax is. Maybe a spellcheck software would help, or reading out loud what you just wrote.

Holy shit, everything in the last 50 posts look 500% more stupid with the ffn theme activated. 10/10 it's like beer goggles except it adds disgust.

    Anyway.

Considering the writing of a wizarding world with a quiet, political civil rights struggle for muggleborns in a world without the catalysis of a Voldemort. Then, after a string of excessively violent and sensational incidents it erupts in armed conflict and Harry goes through school in this environment as a half blood reviled and courted by both sides depending on who it is. Would be something short and will probably be written as a string of short scenes.

Could tie it in with Nobby Leach, the Muggleborn Minister for Magic 1962-1968.

Here's an idea I don't think was done before.

Instead of Harry being the Boy-Who-Lived, it is his grandfather Charlus[1]. But Harry is still the Chosen One.

Basically, Voldemort is born way, way earlier than in canon. He rises to power during the school years of Charlus' parents and a prophecy is eventually made by Trelawney's ancestor.

So, obviously, Charlus' parents defy the Dark Lord thrice, he hears the prophecy, goes to their home, kills Charlus' dad, the mother sacrifices herself and Voldemort is vanquished by the one year old Charlus.

The war against Voldemort ends, an era of peace is established and Charlus is raised by a wizarding family, having no muggle relations.

He eventually grows up, marries a pureblood witch and they have a son, James.

Meanwhile, Voldemort is unable to return and very slowly gathers his powers.

Eventually James Potter meets Lily Evans as in canon. Lily remains friends with Snape, as there is no pureblood supremacy / Death Eater movement to drive them apart. Thus, James eventually is forced to accept Snape and stop bullying him.

Anyway, James and Lilly marry, Harry is born, is raised in the wizarding world and reaches Hogwarts age.

Before Harry's first year at Hogwarts, the Philosopher's Stone is stolen from Gringotts by an unknown man.

It turns out later that this man was possessed by Voldemort who used the Stone to return to corporeal form in full power.

But wait, Charlus Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived is long dead! Who shall defeat Voldemort? The wizarding world looks to James and Harry with great expectations.

It could feature a Harry who strives to become this hero everyone expects him to become.

[1] Or whatever he's actually named.

So a Voldemort whose a contemporary of a 30-something Dumbledore and Grindelwald. That'd be pretty cool to see, and interesting to see the butterfly effects.

Indeed, I also thought of this scenario with the intent that through all his life, Harry is compared to his world-famous grandfather who vanquished Voldemort and also is compared to his popular father who was a star in Quidditch and is now Head Auror.

This kind of pressure might be interesting and could lead to a competent Harry (and we know how much DLP loves that).

Voldemort on the other hand has been gone for many, many decades. Building up a group of supporters will have do be done from scratch.

It'd probably be easier if Voldemort didn't reveal himself to be Voldemort, and if he possessed someone with relatively good looks/was resurrected without the snake-like features. I imagine Voldemort is still remembered (he could very well have been overshadowed by Grindelwald, just based off of the time period and when he died), but who would remember how he looked, or his real name?

Dumbledore would remember Voldemort, but this time around, he probably wouldn't know/remember Tom Riddle. Slowly but surely, Tom Riddle begins his ascent to power without anyone the wiser: all while using Voldemort as a boogie-man to scare up support.

The thing is, we don't know when Harry's grandfather was born.

I'm guessing it must be somewhere in the thirties.

For the purposes of this discussion, let us assume he was born on the same day Harry was (to make the Prophecy match with both) but in the nineteeen-thirties.

So that could give us July 31st, 1930 as his year of birth.

Since in canon, Voldemort rose to power 10 years before Harry was born, we will have to assume that in this AU he rose to power in 1920.

Going further, if we are subtracting 50 years from these dates, that would place Voldemort's birth at 1876, five years before Dumbledore (1881).

This presents a bit of a problem, doesn't it? The only solution I see would be to use Dumbledore's pre-retcon age of 150 which would place his birth in 1831. That way he would be older than Voldemort, but I somehow don't like this version.

Could have Nicolas Flamel take Dumbledore's place in the story.

It's quite easy to play around with the dates to suit your needs, as it's an au, but what we know of canon solves the age/birth problem quite well.

James Potter was born on March 27th, 1960, and we know that his parents had him much later in their lives. They also were apparently elderly when they died, somewhere between 1976 and 1981, but who knows. JK Rowling tends to mess things up when it comes to math, so you can use or disregard that.

So let's say that Charlus/Jame's father is 40 when James is born (disregarding that wizards live far longer than muggles, and you could make Charlus as old as dirt), which would put his birth at 1920. Voldemort rise to power was 10 years before Harry's birth, like you said, so we'll put that at 1910.

Going off your -50 years figure, Tom Riddle would've been born around 1860; which would make him some 21 years older than Dumbledore. If Albus knew him, it'd be because Tom actually did get the Hogwarts DADA job. Maybe he'd take him under his wing: what with Albus' father dying in Azkaban after attacking the three muggles who hurt Arianna.

But if Tom Riddle doesn't decide to work at Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore would only know him through his reign of terror in England.

Reading your plot, I ended up getting my own plot bunny.

What if the prophecy wasn't told until the year before Harry's entrance into Hogwarts? Instead of saying that a child would be born, it would state a child had been born...

Maybe something had happened at the beginning of the war that caused Voldemort to go into hiding for several more years? Perhaps he realized that fresh Hogwarts students were not the best "army" and ended up training them to be more competent. This meant that the war did not begin in the 70s, but in the 80s; right around Harry Potter's birth.

He would grow up with his parents, in the middle of the war and when he goes to Hogwarts, things would be much different.

With the prophecy told in the 1990s, the divination teacher would been someone different, same with DADA and Potions. Snape would be an unknown character...

Between the summer of first and second years, or second or third years, someone betrays the Potters. Voldemort comes, tries to kill Harry and is protected by his parents. He sees his parents die for him and Voldemort's defeat.

Suddenly, he is a famous orphan at the age of 12 or 13. His Godfather had betrayed them all. This would totally change who he is.

As Voldemort has more competent Death Eaters this time around, his revival would happen much sooner. Perhaps 5th or 6th year.

In my eyes, this would be a 7+ year fic. It would start with the prophecy being told as a prologue and Harry entering Hogwarts as someone who has known magic since birth. The first and second years would have Voldemort trying to kill Harry at Hogwarts somehow.

Then in the summer, Harry witnesses his parents death and his transformation to a "hero."

    Up to the author.

Harry could have believed Sirius was the Secret Keeper, but Harry's parents switched like canon.

Sirius could have been married in this version, and his wife somehow tricked Sirius into betraying the Potters.

Sirius could have been the Secret Keeper and had actually betrayed them.

You could also make Sirius never caught by the authorities, and Harry's goal is to find and kill Sirius. This desire for revenge could fuel him turning darker.

    I like it.

Siblings might be a consideration in a story like this, where there was no pressure not to have more kids and a majority of complete families in the UK do actually have more than one child.

I think in this scenario, Harry watching his parents die in front of him is enough motivation for anger. I can tell you from experience, that tainting the memory of a parent is the last thing a kid wants to do, and this Harry might avoid what he perceives as 'dark' almost zealously.
