I see this fairly often but didn't truly realise it until you pointed it out.

Did you never have romantic or lustful thoughts as a teen? Never saw other teenagers act on such? The asexual teenager is a very, very rare beast.

I never killed someone. I never seriously hurt someone. How can I or anyone else in my situation write about anything involving lethal conflict? The answer is: Easily, provided you do some reasearch, and pick the style you want to write in and for.

For romance there are tons of sources out there, from blogs to novels, from movies to soaps, good and bad.

Not him (obviously) but I didn't. Might have had something to do with being in an all boys private school though.

So much THIS! I have never blushed in my life and can't think of an instance where I've seen another person blush. So why does everyone in fanfiction blush at everything?

Really? You've never, in your life, been embarrassed about anything? You've never slipped and fallen in front of a number of people and had them laugh at you? You've never done something entirely stupid in front of someone that you respect greatly or want to get in the sack?

The feeling afterward, when you realize you've just become the butt of a joke or said the wrong thing in front of someone, possibly the slightly burning ears, neck, or the warm face, the sudden rush of adrenaline? That's embarrassment induced blushing. It's a physical response that most people can't control.

Wow, you must be absolutely perfect. I blush all the freaking time.

He said he hasn't blushed, not that he hasn't been embarrassed. I'm the same, I don't think I've ever blushed either (though I could be wrong, I don't walk around with a mirror, it's just never been pointed out).

Although I probably did when I was a young kid, never in recent years though.

Like Ghosthree said. I have been embarrassed but I just don't blush when that happens.
    But yea I am perfect.

I blush when I'm embarrassed. But it doesn't happen anywhere near as often as in some Harry Potter fics.

    Ro-mah, ro-mo-mah/ga-ga, ooo la-la.

To actually be on-topic, one of my biggest peeves is the usage of Indie tropes in current fanfiction. The shit was tired in 2008, and I'm still seeing stuff about mindscapes, about manipulative!Dumbledore, Weasley bashing, Slytherin glorification and so-called Slytherin!Harry.

It's all shit. Nobody handles it well, and it's gotten to the point that I outright skip over anything with any of that garbage in it, even in it falls under Harry/Daphne, which is one of my guilty pleasures in the fandom - and it's compounded by the fact that just about every single Harry/Daphne story out there uses at least 4 of those 5, if not all 5. And that's not even going into the Indie tropes I didn't mention.

Fuck, at least people have by and large stopped with the shopping trip.

I'll bet my multi-compartment trunk it's still going on.

And fuck me, posting from my phone is a pain in the ass.

For me blushing is associated with anger or laughing, maybe crying if you stretch the definition a bit. If it wasn't for fiction(from books to movies) I wouldn't even know embarrassment can trigger it too since I have never seen someone blush from it nor had it happen to myself.

:( I feel you. I feel like that pairing has huge potential, unfortunately no one has ever written a 10/10 story for it. I think I've read less than 5 that I'd ever think of reading again.

I actually had someone a few months back PM me on FF.net telling me I forgot to have my somewhat more intelligent that canon Harry buy a multi-compartment trunk. :colbert:

    Yea, no thanks.

On that subject though, I don't necessarily hate the idea, but it gets taken to far too much of an extreme almost every time. A trunk store does not sell apartment trunks, let alone six of them (for five of Harry's friends of course). Moody's is probably a unique build that he had built because of his paranoia. If you want to have Harry contract someone to make a trunk like Moody's (no apartment, just a really big area in the last compartment) then fine, but it better take some time, and he better not get six.

It also better cost a boatload of money and have some limits to have much expansion it has inside it. Trunk that has a small room in it is ok, trunk that has a manor and a full sized quidditch pitch is not.

Why? Because of her name? We know nothing about her from canon. You could just as well say "My favourite pairing is Harry/OC". It tells me nothing, because she is unknown quantity. Basically, you are pairing Harry with a label, or some idea, not 'real' person. The "Harry/Daphne" pairing actually means "Harry/whoever author wants her to be".

Basically I look at it as something of Romeo and Julliet, potentially. Two houses that hate each other and, well you know the story. Yes she is an OC, but she's an OC that's also been fairly developed by fanon and if you take the best of those developments you could do something with it. (Ice princess is NOT one of the best...at all).

It's not my favourite canon pairing, just fanon, because it COULD be written really well. (It just never is).
EDIT: Actually that's not even true, it's not my 'favourite', there's too many potentially good ones to have just one favourite in fanon.

Romeo and Juliet, you want it to end in tragedy I take it?
