Play Pharaoh and Cleopatra if you haven't already. The mythology isn't as strong in this one as in Zeus/Posiedon. You don't have the gods and heroes walking through your city and assigning quests, nor great mythological monsters. You simply build temples, shrines, and temple complexes to the five gods in the game (Ra, Osiris, Set, Bastet, and Ptah). You gain major and minor perks by keeping them appeased (Osiris, for instance, can bless you by doubling crop yield or boost the fertility of the Nile, or Bast can boost the happiness of your city), and get cursed if you neglect them (Osiris can stop the flooding of the nile, or Ra can make you hated throughout the upper and lower kingdoms). The houses you build, as well, cannot evolve without religion - sometimes requiring 3+ places of worship.

There was actually a thread about the City-Builder series here, which was neat

500m estimated budget for Destiny, I assumed half of that was for advertising.

Oh, so it's like Heavy Rain? Massive budget, massive team, massive let-down?

The game is still as fun as the beta was. My biggest complaints though, and they're pretty glaring, are:

    - they need a better way of conveying story. 90% of it is conveyed by Dinklage during loading screens.

    - speaking of loading screens, holy Jesus. The load times are atrocious, especially given the size of the game - some are over a minute.

    - there are five locations. Five. The Tower, Old Russia, The Moon, Venus and Mars. One location/ map on each planet/ moon.

That last point is the biggest let down. I was expecting four per planet, not four (the tower is a tiny hub) total.

I know about Pharaoh and played it, but I'm not sure if I ever tried its expansion. And since we're already talking about Sierra-published city-builders, you ever tried Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom?

I can't say that I have, but I think it's the only one. I've played the Egyptian, Greek, and Roman city-builder series', there might be more. I haven't checked in a while

If there was ever a franchise I wish was picked up in this age...

From what I can recall Impression Games was closed down in the early 2000s, by Vivendi Universal. Would they still hold the IPs to those franchises?

Man. Empire Earth definitely holds a special place in my heart.

...pretend the sequels don't exist. Actually, that isn't fair - the second was pretty solid, but the third. My god, the third.

Apparently the IPs were split up - as far as I can tell, the city builders were taken by Tilted Mill Entertainment. They definitely got Caesar.

Man. I tried so hard to get into Caesar IV. So very fucking hard. I just couldn't get past the memory leaks, crashes, and bugs.

There's another game in the series that Tilted Mill was working on where they were going to go back to the 2D engine, but it got stuck in dev. hell, unfortunately.

Welp, played Fable Anniversary for a few hours today and went straight back to Fable TLC. Man, fuck these new faces and that blur and the lack of colors. Why would they do this?

Also, who thought it was a good idea to disable the mouse when using the game's menus?

I love how the narrative from game journos on console wars is that competition is better for the consumer.

We shouldn't want one console to beat the other into the ground, they say.

Well, in response to getting its ass handed to them, Microsoft fights back by, first, buying a third party game and taking it away from PS gamers for a year (Tomb Raider).

Then they buy Mojang for $2.5b. Money that they've almost certainly spent to keep Minecraft off PS consoles.

That's money they could have used to create 20 first party studios of their own and actually create something worthwhile of their own.

I hope Sony continues to tear them apart. Fuck MS.

Nah, it's going to stay on other platforms.

If Microsoft bought Minecraft and restricted it to the Xbox, they'd probably wind up killing it (or at least significantly reduce their profits from the purchase.) It makes more financial sense to port that shit everywhere.

    Fair enough.

It's still 2.5 billion NOT spent on first party development though. It's still them splurging cash in the most unimaginative way possible.

Does anyone here know anything about gaming headsets on consoles? (Specifically PS4)

Which are considered the best? I'm more interested in comfort over sound quality because, ideally, i'd have only party chat going to the headset and my game audio coming out of my home theatre system.

Can you even split audio outs on these systems?

So hard to Google that question. I can only assume most who've used headsets in the past know the answer by default...

I have and it's decent. Nothing earth shattering (pun most definitely intended) but a nice gimmick. The price is about right for what I'd put it as worth now (£22.99 on Steam) rather than the £60 it started as. Be aware that it hogs resources like no other game I've ever played.

It is also a more or less multiplayer only game where clever strategies don´t matter that much. It is just question who can build things quicker, is the first to use the moons as rockets.

I personally find it lacking in variation and depth but if you like massive online battles it is worth the price.

Look what I found... FFXV - TGS 2014 Trailer

Seriously Squenix... you can go fuck yourself for toying with my delicate fanboy emotions like that. Another major game show sans release date is mean enough.
