I have found my new favorite AU. Cracked Mirror. It's Earth Bet...but flipped. Everything is weird and wrong, yet strangely plausible. To be vague to avoid spoilers: it's a distorted mirror of the canon universe, with organizations and characters switching places, though it isn't an obvious flip. The story explores how the characters went down their alternate paths.

The writer is certainly getting a lot of mileage out of his decision to completely do away with the 80% Main POV/20% Interlude format and using new characters for every chapter; they can basically jump about, fleshing out the work slowly while not getting bogged down in the minutiae of one particular character or blasting through their story to get to the awesome bits. It's a true ensemble work and, imo, the most interesting new fic for just that reason. Everyone you ever cared about makes an appearance.

Don't read the character list or the index, just follow along.

I'm sad that the author dumped so much on the first go though, it'll probably be a while until we get new chapters.

It's certainly interesting to see all the roles flipped. Weaver Nine is interesting for a similar reason.

But there isn't really much of story to judge here (yet). This is just a fleshed out background, a long prologue. I'll wait for the actual plot to start before I proclaim it as a great fic.

    Hah.

I hope he doesn't keep the rapid switch style of the last two chapters, although I get why he's doing it. I just prefer one POV a chapter.

The writing and worldbuilding is good, which is more than most fics can say.

I wouldn't say that it's the best AU fic running, just the one with the most intriguing start. It neatly does away with everything that makes most AUs so boring and/or bad.AND we got all of the world-building in one big post dump.

I'm running out of good stories to read on SpaceBattles. Anything worth reading on Sufficient Velocity?

A few things, but the atmosphere is far less enjoyable then SB, which itself isn't as good as DLP.

I don't read the comments on either, so I never notice.

I wish I could skip the comments, but I occasionally torture myself by reading fics that don't have the chapters linked D:

Does SV actually get stories that don't get cross posted to SB?

Probably, mostly if they're not that big yet, the problem is that you have to already have a great bank of knowledge of both sites to know or find them.

I think there's one story? Maybe?

I mean, I like SV, but I can understand why some people are turned off it; it's about as cliquish as you get on internet message boards. Right now if you're just interested in stories you can probably get by without missing anything via SB

I read all the stuff crossposted to SV and SB on SV because it's a bit lower traffic so there's usually a better story post to inane chatter ratio. There's a handful of SV-only stories, but nothing recommendable beyond An Imago of Rust and Crimson (and only the last few updates of that are on SV).

So, I've come late to this party. I've literally just finished Worm, and I'd love to know what the best fanfic around for it is.

Without trawling through 53 pages of thread that is. :p

So yeah, what's the best writing in this small fandom?

I'm not sure if it's the best writing, but Cenotaph and sequel Wake by notes are very good, novel-length and complete.

There's ... Fucking Tinkers as an SAO cross and Meh, I Can Take Them All for a humor One-Punch-Man cross. Both on a longish hiatus. Also Cracked Mirror, which is kind of a Mirror!Worm cross. (Canon heroes are villians and so on).

There are bound to be others, but I don't like them or forgot.

I liked Carnage and Ryuugi's Zenith, but there's sadly not a lot of good stories in the fandom.

Really? I haven't noticed at all. Honestly SB and SV's Creative Writing boards seem interchangeable.
