So I saw that Drifting was over 1 million words so I tried reading it. Fuck that shit. I mean Naruto is one second a super kickass badass and the next second looses some twobit nobody. Fucking no consistency. Also the whole lets splice everyone genes makes me rage so hard...And the lets power up everyone but the hero and his friends... like what no balance. Every fucking villain has some kind of extra super duper bloodline shit and then some. While the 'good guys' use mostly the canon moves. What. So fucking rage.

 

So I may or may not have just blown through The Girl From Whirlpool on the pretense that it was complete, and I may or may not be currently suffering from Minato x Kushina withdrawals. Are there any fics with similar concepts out there, and somewhat comparable quality?

 

As far as I'm aware, you're pretty much screwed. That fic's the only one of its kind that is of any even remotely decent quality.

 

So I was wondering what specific story premises do you want to read about? Even if it's just a run-of-the-mill idea that's been done before but was never done well, left incomplete or wasn't written the way you wanted.

 

Is there any story that has him fail the bell test, and the consequences henceforth? Longer ones, hopefully?

Alternatively, where he's under Asuma, or on a team with Shikamaru, but isn't out of character, and also (here's where it generally goes wrong) straight?

 

I haven't got much of a problem with that, tbh. An OC is still a character, and if done well, can be just as much a villain as anyone else. True, Naruto got dozens of enemies to choose from, but I see no problem in creating one that fits the requirements of your story.

Take Iwa, for example. If you want a competent antagonist from there without changing the characters of the Tsuchikage, Kurotsuchi or the other Iwa-nin shown, then there's nothing wrong with involving an OC.

Sure, too many authors muck up them up, making your nether lips froth and tremble in anger, but at its core the principle of creating a character is just one step further toward original fiction.

Hmmm...not sure if this is a question to everyone or someone specific, but I'll answer...

Firstly, more sasuke fanfics that are not romance or yaoi. I think he is a horribly underused character in fanfiction despite having a huge amount of potential.

Secondly...I really like fanfics that ground Naruto in the original conception of the world. By that I mean shying away from the whole Talk no jutsu and really keeping to the concept of this being a harsh world of Ninja. Eilyfe's Team 7 fic does this really well. Same as Shezza's ANBU story.

However I like to avoid grim dark stories.

 

Directed to everyone. I suppose I wanted to know what kind of "quality Naruto fic" people wanted in general.

It's a pretty massive AU where all the five villages have all be defeated by an empire run by none other then Madara Uchiha. Also the Nine Tailed beasts don't seem to be a thing in this universe, instead they're replaced by the mysterious seven sins. It also features great characters such as drunkard-mercenary Sasuke Uchiha and Pirate Shikamaru. Plus this fic also updates semi-regularly which is a massive positive as far as I'm concerned.

 

That sounds like it has potential, but could be ruined by sub-par execution. I'll wait for a 2nd opinion before reading that one Android.

 

Any more fics where the villages were never established? Naruto-era or before?
