I just think Fleur is too good, too talented and too beautiful to be an interesting character.

How? She pretty much ends up in last place in the tournament, has a real nasty streak about her when she doesn't like something (Molly's attitude, Fleur's mockery of Celestina Warbeck, cutting remarks about Hogwarts, food, etc) and while she is beautiful, canon does not have her with any type of magical beauty. It seems to all be genetic, which would place her distinctly below full Veela.

You're comparing her to other champions here, not other girls. The simple fact that she got into the tournament speaks volumes of her magical abilities.

These are major flaws now? Everyone can get nasty when they don't like something. These are small unimportant pet peeves that could be ignored in real life if you were dating someone as hot and talented as Fleur.

I'm not speaking about fanon 'veela allure' bullshit. I don't want to read about Harry dating a unrealistically sexy supermodel. That's just a boring wish-fullfilment fantasy.

Now, folks, I'm not saying that Harry/Fleur is horrible or anything. I just personally don't like it and that's all. I know I'm in the minority on DLP in this, but it's just my opinion.

Right there with you! Not on the Harry/Fleur thing obviously, but on the "not my cup of tea" thing. Too often, you see something like this devolve into name calling and diatribes when the matter under consideration is one of taste, not objective fact.

That's where we differ. Frankly, Fleur's a crybaby bitch until the second half of DH. And as beautiful as she's made out to be, someday that'll fade, and all you'll be left with is a bitchy wife/girlfriend.

But as you said, it's pretty much personal opinion at this point.

It was more a play on words, because of NewComb's joke about Fleur being Bi lingual. Cunning Linguist=Cunnilingus

For a minute, I was going to tell you off for saying waifu and getting destiny points taken away, but then I realized this isn't the DotN thread. I think Hash has conditioned me to now cringe when I see that word.

Personally what I like most about Harry/Fleur is that its NOT Harry/Hermione (ugh - "Harmony") or even Harry/Daphne. Other than that, I can take it or leave it.

    Back to the point:

I know already this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it appeals to me. I like the author's characterizations, and the story pacing - even if it can be a little cliche as a whole. If you like MoD!Harry, you might like it as well. Actively updating.

Is it weird that I find the interview portion incredibly annoying given that the story isn't told from Harry's POV (yet)?

Massive dump of stories coming. These should all be active stories, not abandoned. To the best of my knowledge, none of these stories have been recc'd before, though I may have mentioned one or two in other threads. Beyond the FFN summary, I may give my own quick thoughts on a story if warranted, along with a rating (if it's above 3.5, it's probably because it doesn't fit the DLP mold in some way).

    4/5
This is an AU Marauders-era fic, with the Remus Lupin's sister as the protagonist. Despite appearances, she's not much of a Mary Sue. This is mostly a character-driven story at the beginning, but eventually a plot slinks its way in. There are some interesting mysteries with plausible resolutions.

    2.5/5
Some pretty strong fix-it-fic elements with a few weak attempts at balance. Characterization is iffy (well, it's mostly that the "protagonists" are all complete cunts with few if any redeeming qualities, but it that's your thing go for it). Writing is ok. Shines the spotlight on characters that often don't get a lot of screen time - McGonagall, Parvati, and Lavender, mostly.

    3.5/5
I can't remember too much, but the cliches aren't overbearing (and a few are diverted in interesting ways), and the Harry/Snape/Lucius dynamic is hilarious if not particularly realistic. (Not romance, mind.)

    4/5
This one's a little hard to describe, and if you don't like fics where Snape plays a mentor/father-like role, then you should skip this. It's very much a character piece, though there are hints of something more in the latest chapters. Author has a strong track record of completing her stories, so this should eventually be finished.

    2.5/5
Family fic. An ok time waster if you're into that sort of thing.

    3/5
Dimension-hopping family fic, with some mystery thrown in for good measure.

    3.5/5
Hermione-centric fic, decent trio dynamic, decent exploration of some unused characters. Has an actual plot, seems to be diverging from canon slowly-but-surely.

    4/5
Perhaps the most controversial item I'll be dropping here. It's a bit of a rehash - a lot of canon events play out similarly in a very broad sense, but the details are often completely original, and the consequences down the road (heh) are sure to be significant. The strongest part of this fic for me is the characterization - Snape in particular. There's this great line in a conversation with Dumbledore, something like, "You don't prefer one truth over another... You have to take what you get. Things are either true or they aren't." Dumbledore comes back with some mystical bullshit that I think the reader is supposed to agree with, but the author somehow accidentally managed to give Snape the correct viewpoint despite disagreeing with it...

I second The Arithmancer but I have to say that this Hermione is practically the same as canon Hermione except she's a maths genius. The author said they were substituting maths genius for books genius but that doesn't seemed to have happened. Also, the authors other story is The Accidental Animagus and it's pretty weak.

Yeah, I read both when I found the author but I'm only keeping up with this one now.

I second The Never-ending Road. The characterization is fantastic, and fem-Harry has some significant ripple-in-a-pond differences from Harry in how she's growing up, her friendships and how she views herself.

Remus and Sirius are also exceptionally well done, though if I'm not mistaken there should be a warning for in-explicit background slash between the two of them, along with a femme-slash pairing between two of the Slytherin girls, who are also well-developed characters.

Did I miss a chapter of Never-Ending Road, or are you talking about two different fics?

Actually, I'm confusing the Long Journey Home (a different fem-Harry story altogether) with the Never-Ending Road (which I haven't even read).

    Ignore me.

A more-original-than-most idea that's decently well written. A good enough read that involves Harry dying and someone else trapped in his body.

Wait what. She LITERALLY takes his place? o_O

That's definitely "more original", but you could say there's a reason for that ... not sure if do want. Not a big fan of trapped-in-another-body plots :/

Also, re: With a Forked Tongue I Lie in Wait. I think I tried to read that, and got massively annoyed at the "living with criminals" bit. I realised I ceased having any tolerance whatsoever for HP stories not taking place in the magical world. And especially the Harry, Snape, Lucius-stuff was awful. Is Harry at Hogwarts by now?

Edit: I checked the beginning of the currently last chapter, and that was quite enough to convince me not to try again :s

    Sigh.
