That reminds me of another trope present not only in the HP fandom: A young male teen scoring an older woman is hot, but dare to reverse the sexes and everyone is calling for an... "unexpected" barbecue.

I've been entertaining the idea of a Harry Potter/Percy Jackson Crossover idea for a while. It has some of the standard stuff (Harry's a son of Zeus, raised and trained at the Camp, still goes to Hogwarts), with a few little Deconstruction elements I take some pride with:

    1. There are no wizards in the Americas.

    2. The Pureblood families like the Malfoys not only deny the existence of the Gods, they consider anyone who believes them (say, the Weasleys or 'ignorant' muggleborns) as naive, old-fashioned, and insane.

    3. Mr. D. calls Harry 'Harold', 'Harrison', 'Henry', 'Hadrian', and so on and so forth.

    4. It takes the time to actually explore what it means that Harry is the son of Zeus, and hence half-siblings with half the Pantheon, Thalia, Jason, and even Mr. D. himself.

    5. Dumbledore isn't an evil manipulative bastard *GASP*. On the contrary, he was the one who sent Harry to the Camp in the first place.

    6. Ron isn't a betraying idiot *GASP*. On the contrary, he is the one who figures out Harry is a demigod.

    7. Harry isn't the best fighter who could beat Voldemort with both hands tied behind his back *GASP*.

    8. Not only do goblins not immediately love and obey Harry, they outright hate him thanks to an old grudge they have with his half-brother Godric Gryffindor.

I'd take it a step further- Harry is a demigod, just not of the Greek pantheon. He's a misidentified son of the Asgardian goddess Hel (or maybe even Coyote of the Native American mythos). For the time that they think he's a son of Hades or Hermes, he gets to take the tour of Half-blood weirdness and make commentary/get into trrouble.

Interesting. And the weird thing is I could still keep it in the Rick Riordan Universe, since supposedly all the various book series take place in the same Universe (complete with Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Norse). Granted, I don't know enough about non-Greco-Roman mythology to pull that off, but it could make for a good story.

Neither do most of his readers, so you can riff off of Wikipedia and they'll think you're awesome for the depth of research done.

Hermione: "I have an announcement to make. I have renamed SPEW to HELF. The House Elf Liberation Front!"
Ron" "Hermione, that sounds like the name of a terrorist organization."
Hermione: *Pulls out several bombs* "It is a terrorist organization"

Has this acronym any connection with the German word "helfen" ("to help")?

Inspired by discussion in the Pet Peeves thread concerning the origination of IceQueen!Daphne:

Astoria Greengrass harbored a crush on Draco Malfoy long before they graduated Hogwarts and were married. She often divulged her fantasies to her sister, Daphne, who usually chided Astoria for liking someone Daphne hated. As time passed, however, Daphne became less judgmental toward the Malfoy scion and began to pity his fate, though she still told Astoria she thought he was a ponce.

Imagine Astoria's surprise when, in the dead night after a long love-making session with her new husband, she finds a love letter written by Draco to who else but her older sister. The dirty details lead her to believe that, not only did they used to fuck, but that they continued to do despite Draco's marriage proposal and their subsequent ceremony.

She intends to burn down the house, starting with the parchment in her hand, but finishing the letter persuades her otherwise; from what she's gathered in the missive, Draco and Daphne have decided to kill Harry Potter, thus giving the Malfoys a legitimate claim on Grimmauld Place. They also plan to Obliviate Astoria and leave her in the Muggle world unaware of her magic. Astoria assumes Narcissa is unaware of the plot, though she figures the woman would follow along anyway, but she knows Lucius is fully aware; after all, the Greengrasses were nearly as rich as the Malfoys before Lucius was nearly bankrupted thanks to the Dark Lord. Unfortunately for Astoria's parents, they died not long after the war and did not leave the estate to her; thus, Astoria does not have any money of her own, being the youngest, and she loved her sister enough not to care if she got a cut anyway.

Long story short, she recruits Harry's help in stopping Draco; he obviously doesn't believe her, but the tear-stained piece of parchment is in Draco's handwriting and he wouldn't put it past the Malfoys to kill him (or to want Grimmauld back). Hermione warns him not to trust Astoria, which he doesn't, but inevitably she turns to him for protection. She's totally uncomfortable in Draco's presence, thinking that she's going to be killed/kidnapped at any moment, so she asks Harry if she can stay with him. He initially refuses (after all, Ginny could come over anytime) but ultimately can't allow someone to suffer unnecessarily.

Obv Ginny does find out - she comes in without Harry around - and Astoria does nothing to dissuade her of the notion that she and Harry have been seeing each other. After all, as nice as he's been to her, she can't help but like him a bit. Ginny won't let Harry explain and breaks it off with him, claiming that she wouldn't want to be around a person who is screwing his rival's wife for fun rather than the fiancee he loves. Hermione and Ron have similar reservations about Astoria and Harry's relationship, though neither believes he actually had sex with the girl.

blah blah blah fill in the rest with Ice!Daphne and all the Malfoys trying to make things worse for Harry - convinced that he now knows their ploy, they try to ruin him through the Prophet by announcing Harry stole Draco's wife. Daphne is even quoted as supporting Draco over her sister. "I can't believe she would fall for him after everything he did to Draco in school!" Inevitably the Malfoys get what's coming to them, but only after Astoria literally torches Malfoy manor and Harry kills father Malfoy. Astoria fights her sister, wins, and Obliviates her, leaving her in the Muggle world. Draco is forced to go to jail, but escapes because his mother takes his place (dying in Azkaban).

    Draco vows revenge.

You'd think they put in some kind of rule/protocol about checking for Polyjuice potions already, especially since that's how Barty Jr. got out.

Actually Don, it'd be funny if it eventually turns out that Draco and Daphne are innocent and Astoria made it all up because she's nuts and wants some excitement in her life.

It would be amusingly ironic after all the times that the Malfoy family has managed to weasel out of responsibility for their actual crimes that they get punished for something that they didn't do.

And Harry going "Meh, I expected shit like this to happen" over that Astoria imagined plot would also fit in here.

Calling this one, outside of the loop. It's a Dual!Harry concept where there's a Harry stuck in a time loop and a Harry that exists outside of the failed time loops that's either A) trying to survive or B) trying to get the information of why he failed into the time loop. Feel it could have some good potential and a new way at looking at the time travel fics.

Recently had this idea : what if the sorting hat was used in conjunction with the mirror of Erised? You could actually see what the child wanted and desired most. Perhaps it would change the sorting, perhaps not, but might be something fun to play with. Since if by canon (correct me if I'm wrong) the sorting hat could only see your memories. It seems kind of silly to place 11 year old's into a house dependent upon solely the memories of an 11 year old. Just a bunny running around in my head that anyone can take and implement if they wish =) *hint hint*

Your idea falls apart when you realize that kids could just lie about what they see in the mirror.

Not if the hat is used in conjunction with it to actually see what the child himself/herself saw.
