I'd highly recommend watching Frozen before reading this fic. It's been a little while since I read it, but I don't think you'd be able to really appreciate Elsa's reactions in several scenes without seeing it first.

And, while I personally don't think it lived up to the hype, Frozen is not a bad movie. Go ahead and watch it.

Was actually planning on reccing Worlds Frozen too. Just saw Frozen two weeks ago (bit overrated though) and found this fic straight after. Pretty enjoyable seeing the interaction between Anna, Elsa and Dresden. Hoping a plot starts building from here though. Probably do want to watch the movie to appreciate it though.

Also smashed through some of the recs earlier on this thread:

A Demon Lord's Hero - Your typical super Shirou crossover along with the likes of God Slaying Blade Works, In Flight, Hill of Swords, etc, which I've always had a soft stop for (as guilty pleasures). Thought the start was a bit dull, but became really interesting with Kokabiel's appearance, who was a freaking amazing character.

Also read a Demon Among Devil's which was the same sort of thing, except with Minato from the Persona universe. It was a bit dull at the start, then became fun just seeing him summon all sorts of legendaries, and then just became messy in the last two chapters. Still enjoyable though.

Paradigm, the Mass Effect fic was pretty enjoyable too.

Edit: I'll actually redact my comment Re: Frozen being overrated. It's actually quite good, with a pretty unique concept, good execution and a slightly different atmosphere from your usual Disney/Pixar type fare. I will agree with Republic that the music is pretty disappointing though (apart from that one song you already know).

The problem with the "super shirou" crossovers I feel isn't that they make him OP, it's that they make him too smart/cunning. Doesn't really apply when EMIYA is summoned though.

    Yeah, completely agree.

Like take God Slaying Blade Works. They make him out like he's this cunning, experienced warrior-King who is a cross between Arturia and Iskander. Everyone marvels at his political aptitude, how he makes the right alliances and builds a power base. That totally is not Shirou, even if you want to go for one that is ridiculously overpowered.

Then Gabriel_Blessing writes him as this character who somehow has the ruthlessness of Archer with all the compassion of Shirou, once again being overly experienced, strategically minded and cool.

And in everything he's self righteous, while being a perfect selfless saint and yet oh so likeable to everyone in addition to being OP. They always ignore all his negative traits, or spin them as if they're positive. He needs some negative trait. If it's Archer, he's basically a bit of a troll to everyone. A well written Shirou would continue to be naive and a bit stupid, or properly struggling with his distorted view of the world and heroism (And by distorted, I don't mean a character trait used to attract a harem).

Yeah, his distorted personality should make being romantically into him for any length of time impossible. There's a reason EMIYA died alone.

The Frozen fic is decent, though a bit stilted in places. The author has a good grasp of Elsa's character but he's a bit too wooden and formal when it comes to Harry. While he makes a good show of pointing out Harry's lack of care when it comes to formalities I've noticed a few points where he's used language that canon Harry wouldn't. Usually it's just a bit too formal and polite.

The initial plot hook seems a bit forced and Jenalind is far too obvious in her schemes to be Unseelie Fae.

Even if she is just testing Elsa (who seems to hold the alterna-Earth equivalent of the Winter Queen mantle) the Sidhe are generally not known for pulling their punches. I know not all of them are Mab, but hell, the Leanansidhe thought the best way to give Harry some help during Grave Peril was to point out that it was raining and leave him to work shit out from there.

Unseelie Fae do not do easy tests. You either pass or you die.

All that said, the story is interesting and the characterisation is good enough for me to keep reading.

    I'd give it a 4/5 so far.

    Title: A Different Path
Summary: Emiya Shirou. Warrior of justice. Entered into the fifth holy grail war, he resolves to save as many as he can. He is a sword, forged through cursed flames. It's no surprise when he summons a servant of the Saber class. Yet, instead of a blade he summons a swordsman, one clothed in black. A blade cannot change, but in the right hands it can be shown the proper path...

    https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8862791/1/A-Different-Path

It's a pretty decent FSN fic where Shirou summons Kirito during the 5th war. The story was alright, nothing special until like a 3rd of the way though then it get's interesting. Has a lot of the stuff I enjoy in a FSN fic which is prose about Excalibur-esque noble phantasms and reality marble shenanigans.

I felt it was pretty well written, among the better spectrum in the fandom and I can't remember and glaring grammar issues.
    I'd give it 4/5.

I'm still only part way through A different path, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Except... in the last chapter I read, Gilgamesh pulls a Yu-Gi-Oh trap card out of nowhere and uses it's effect in battle. I suppose you could assume that the events of Yu-Gi-Oh (or at least the ancient Egypt backstory) actually happened in the world of the story, and that Gilgamesh can access the cards through the Gate of Babylon. Really though, it felt like a completely unnecessary inclusion.

    Hoping it's a one-off thing.

Wouldn't it be worse if it was a one-off? Consistency and all that?

That may be true, but it'd still bother me a lot less if it never came up again.

Reminds me of a crack idea I had for a Familiar of zero/ Yu-gi-oh cross. Basically Louise summoned the pharaoh after the end of the series, who had gone slighly insane when he moved on to the next life. Yami wouldn't have had the power of Gandalfr but the power to summon things and activate magic and trap effects as if it were a card game but in order to obtain cards he would have to obtain objects in RL and beat opponents in duels. From beating guiche, for example, he would earn the cards "Guiche The Bronze", "Verdandi", "Valkiry token" and "Alchemy" which would make him summon Guiche to fight when using the card. One of the first cards he would have had would be "Gandalfr Saito" and Saito would only appear during duels, returning to our world whenever the duel ends. The gandalfr effect would have doubled the effect of magic equipments like "Delfrlinger", "Horse whip" and "maid outfit". You know, crack.

Anyone know any decent Skyrim fics? Seems like there should be more. Most of the fics with male dragonborn feature the protagonist acting creepy to women and vice versa.

Two that I've found that are quite good:

Mists on the Mountains by Koboldlord (I'd rate it around 3/5)

Hammel Greymist has returned home after several years of fighting. Yet Skyrim isn't the same as he remembers. For one thing there's the civil war brewing, not to mention the dragons returning... Part original content, part novelization. Male Nord Dragonborn, Contains main, civil war and Companions quest-line. Rated for gore, violence/torture mild sexual content and profanity.

Winds of Change by Sings-Off-Key (I'd rate it maybe 3.5-4/5. Has clearly been well planned out and has some decent writing.)

A disastrous war, a repressive peace, a civil uprising, and now, dragons? Skyrim's need for a hero has never been greater. Many Nords yearn for greatness but none more than Thorald Gray-Mane, son of Skyrim's most famous smith. Will it take more than Skyforge steel to face the challenges ahead? And how will he appease the worst-tempered smith in all Skyrim? Thorald x Grelka

I don't know if you are intentionally lying about the premise of the story or what, but the story stakes place after Tomoe's death. It even says so in the Summary.

This kinda fits in with the Skyrim fic request, and I was thinking about reccing it anyway. Probably should've waited a few more chapters before posting it, but hell with it, here you go.

    Naruto/Skyrim

So far, I like most of what's been written. The characterization of Dovahkiin is one of the better I've seen and premise is unique. The Dragon Born finds he has ties in a far off place and going on a new quest brings some life back to the weary adventurer. In the later chapters, the story starts to capture some of the feel of exploration and anticipation of discovery that are inherent in Skyrim. And, unlike Skyrim, the character interactions seem genuine and I actually ended up caring about some of the people. I did skim a few scenes when the pacing suffered, but for the most part the build up has been decent and I'm invested in the story.

The way the crossover aspect is handled once it really gets going will determine if this fic is as entertaining as it has the potential be or if it flops. Though it's just a little too early to judge, I'm rather optimistic about it and am really looking forward to the next update.

    Naruto

Found a readable dimension/time travel fic and figured it's worth sharing. It's been enjoyable reading about Itachi's struggle to understand and adjust to his circumstances while those who know him try to understand why the hell he's acting so weird.

Sometimes the changes in point of view seem a little odd, but that may just be me. Grammatically speaking, the fic seemed pretty sound.

Anyway, the last chapter sets up a bit of conflict, so the author obviously has a plan. The fic's a bit short, but I enjoyed what's written.

    Elder Scrolls/Game of Thrones Crossover.

I've seen this on peoples favorite for weeks now, and I've ignored it for quite a while due to the fact that it centers around an OC. Still, I really enjoyed it, and actually read through the 150k+ words in one sitting. (This does not happen very much to me anymore...)

One thing I dislike about it is a lot of canon events still go through, though there's a healthy amount of changes too. Or rather, there is a HUGE amount of elder scrolls content mixed in. The crossover is done pretty well, and I think it's worth reading.

I don't know, man. This doesn't look good. The first chapter is a huge info-dump, leaning towards tell not show.
And they have katanas. It's in the first paragraph and in the second.
William has a legendary sword... which is... yes, you guessed right, a katana. Bearing the name Dragonbane.

He also has a merry troupe of guards called the Blades. Checking the author's FF page yielded deviantart links and these Blade fellows look like samurai. :mid6

Did I mention that William Baratheon wears black. Everything is black. From his horse to his armor and cloak. Even the scabbard of his legendary sword is black. God, but he's so fucking Edgy.

One would think with his color fetish/elitist he would join the Night's Watch, he loves the North so much after. That's because he was fostered with the Starks.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. The Black Prince is also a convert and his gods are older than the Old Gods. He worships the Nine Divines who have a lot of shrines and temples in the North.

William Baratheon, Theon Greyjoy, Jon Snow and Robb Stark are known in the North as the Four Brothers of War(I shit you not!). Because they fought in the second Battle of Long Lake where our darling badass got two thousand of his men killed.(Historically speaking, that's a disaster):facepalm

Over all I'd say that this story barely rates to be in the almost recommended thread but it sure as hell is barely readable so there you have it.

    EDIT:
William Baratheon also implemented Joffrey's harebrained idea of creating a Royal Army. They are called the Legions. And all that before he hit his fifteenth birthday.
