I'm a NaruHina fan and the passion in these paragraphs still aroused me a bit.

 

If he did plan NaruHina from the start, then I really wish he spent more time in the manga developing Hinata as a character and how their relationship grew from Naruto seeing her as a friend to the mother of his kids. Instead we'll get two hours (maybe) of character and romantic development rushed in only to probably end with the two of them holding hands and blushing before fast forwarding to an epilogue with their kids.

 

About every relationship involving Naruto was doomed to be contrived for all the lackluster development it received. Really, about the only pairing that had any real substance involving Naruto is the NaruSasu pairing and to be honest, I would have liked the ending a lot more if Kishi had the balls to do so, since it would have explained a lot on why Naruto is so hell-bent on saving that jerk.

But whether it is NaruSaku or NaruHina, both of them feel off and weak in canon, because they are just that.

Now, as to fanfiction, it really depends on the writer and the type of story. Was discussing romance with Jarik some time ago and he did raise the good point that the best romances where the stories where the romance was in the background, second to the plot. Once the romance becomes the main driving force of the story, it loses momentum unless it is filled with lame contrivances to generate drama, which never help a story. Or it is just fluff, which, while not necessarily bad, isn't enough to sustain a story for long. Fluffy one shots are all right but 100k of fluff is too much. That is certainly true with both, NaruSaku and NaruHina stories.

That all said, I am fond of the NaruHina pairing still. Think it was handled terribly in the manga, but there was the occasional fic that I enjoyed, even if they were nothing but meaningless fluff. Sakura, I think, benefits from not being shackled to either Naruto and Sasuke. So far, my favourite Sakura centric stories where the ones where she is either on her own, doing her thing like the one recc with female Sasuke or the SilverShine stories where she is generally paired with Kakashi, although that is more a testament to the strength of the author rather than the pairing itself.

It exists for that sole reason. To share your opinions on the Manga.

On a more relevant note, this thread needs to be moved out of "Story Search" and into Fanfic Discussions at the least.

On that vein, here's a Fic (Not sure if someone has mentioned this, since I did not trawl through the last 30 pages of Vitriol):

Its a Naruto / Dark Souls Crossover.
Now, I haven't played Dark Souls. Been Saving up to buy all the games at once, so I haven't played them yet. So I'm not sure how much of the stuff that happens in that area is readable.

But on the whole, the fic is a good readable time-waster for about 15-30 minutes. I'm on Chapter 9 at the moment.

 

I can definitely agree about turning this into almost recommended because, to be honest, the only quality Naruto stories I have read are on this site.

As I said, the fandom ruined the pairing for me. If you want to accuse me of allowing fanfiction to color my perception of the canon character and canon pairing, be my guest. I am fully cognizant of my inherent bias.

And that's not even mentioning WD's justified criticisms of the canon relationship.

If you're actually trying to argue that there is an abundance of good NaruHina stories to choose from, I sincerely beg to differ. Even if we are now calling this the "almost recommendable Naruto stories" thread or even the "I was able to read more than one chapter without closing this one, I swear" thread, there aren't many NaruHina stories that belong here.

 

Seriously? I remember reading that a long time ago. The only memorable thing I can recount is that Naruto and Mei (and maybe Hanabi?) were the feature characters. I remember liking it a lot when I read it.

 

This was probably recommended before since it is relatively old but good for a good laugh.

Summary: Naruto asks Kakashi what to give Hinata for her birthday and he jokingly replies 'sex'. Naruto doesn't know what that means since he never had anyone to explain him so he sets to find out. Sasuke, being in a similar position due to to Itachi killing his clan, joins on his quest. Cue misunderstandings and awkward situations.

 

Not anymore, it's not. He's given up. I would know, I was beta-ing for him. He posted a chapter on the rewritten story, which I believe he then took down, about him giving up. He still hasn't replied back to me after my first beta edit.

I maybe alone with this, but I always hated how every other fanfic wants Naruto have lightening affinity because reasons(mostly because of Hirashin). I think Wind and a second for water is nice, keeps the theme.
