It's not like affinities are a huge deal. There's nothing stopping a ninja from learning any basic elemental jutsu (e.g. everyone and their mother using that brick wall jutsu in the war) or mastering nature transformation for whichever element they want. Naruto has no excuses since nature transformation training is the one of the most obvious and effective ways of taking advantage of mass shadow clone training. He could have them all done within a week or so.

Sadly, Life in Konoha's ANBU is the only fic I've seen bother with that. I, too, would at least like to see Naruto using more Earth Release at least.

 

Naruto:Eleven by Geor-sama has been recommended here and people do seem to swear by it. Now personally I have enjoyed some of the author's earlier works like Shinobi Wars, but I failed to see what was special about this one. I kept waiting for it to get better till I got to the chapter 4.

To be fair, the fic was published back in '08. Back then we had only seen Naruto being hated by his village all his life, Gaara having undergone multiple assassination attempts and were told by Deidara that no one attempted to save the two previously captured jinchuuriki and that they were practically given to Akatsuki by their villages.

Yugito being thrown away isn't much of a stretch from what had been seen so far.

Its a military village and bijus are nukes. You dont hand over your nukes to your enemy even if you don't like them. I did come across this sometime in 2009 and I remembered stopping midway. Then found it recommended here got back to it and realized why I stopped the first time.

No, that was pretty much my interpretation too.

 

I assure you it made more sense back in the day. It's like reading Jurassic Park. Back in the 90's there were people in the scientific community who thought you could do all that with DNA. Now of course we know better and the books/movies are just silly fun. But even today you have the esteemed Jack Horner trying to clone a dinosaur by injecting dinosaur DNA into a chicken.

There's a much easier way than that.

Step One : Acquire Raijin no Ken.

Step Two : ???

Step 3 : Become A-Class ninja based solely on ownership of the only lightsaber in the Elemental Countries.

 

Chakra Current have made having such a sword kind of unnecessary. When you have people like B throwing pencils through trees you look like a bit of a noob for carrying around Raijin no Ken.

 

Well I guess it just didn't appeal to me. Like I said I did come across it back in '09 and I found it lacking even then. But that might be just me.

A story focused on OCs that is actually good. The characters have a surprising amount of depth and the story isn't half bad. The fact that its almost complete is also another positive point in its favor.

 

The Raijin no Ken is for killing things with "perfect" defenses like say Gaara or Kakuzu because it no sells shit like that. Using it against fodder is really wasteful when a halfway decent wind blade could be used instead.

The true power of the Raijin no Ken comes from its power as an unstoppable blade, perfect for any occasion where you need to cut through things that can't be cut. Sure it is useless against teleporting or dimensional shennangans but really, it is a fucking lightsaber who gives a shit.

 

But then I have a strong feeling that Raijin no Ken and Kiba can be stropped by any blade with elemental chakra(Wind or Lightning) run through it. If you're bamf with Wind or Lightning you shouldn't need the sword to cut through "perfect" defenses. Suiton has also shown high levels of cutting power but hasn't really been tested against top tier defensive jutsu that I can recall. Fire and Earth users may like the sword though.

 

White Rain is one of those stories that always surprises me when it shows up in my inbox. It takes so fricking long to update.

That said, it is probably the only OC-centric story I would give a 5/5 to. Every character is fleshed out extremely well and it deals with a good bit of tension between daiymo and Hokage in later chapters.

Great story.

 

I don't think it's really all that unstoppable. I wouldn't count on it piercing the armor of the 3rd Raikage, for instance. I think a huge part of its advantage is that so many of the defensive techniques we've seen are Earth based, which are vulnerable to the Raijin's power.

And let's not forget that the Raijin's wielder is also a spacetime technique user. Against guys like him and the 4th you pretty much need a defensive ninjutsu since you can't count on evading with speed. Doesn't it just suck for you that the best defensive element is vulnerable to lightning?

Sasuke dies at Wave and the story takes off from there. He's replaced by a non Gary-stue OC, nobody gains a Sharingan (10 points right there), and there is an iffy Hinata chapter which is taken a bit far, but she hasn't shown up in the story again.

Thirty minutes of your life will be spent in meh.

I have been unlucky when it comes to my favorites as well. Most of the stories in my list aren't getting updated. It was one of the reasons I decided to write my own.
