It's a comic for young boys. It doesn't need to be well written, it just needs to engage and appeal to young boys.

Not to mention that it's a weekly comic, that goes from storyboard to published within 7 days. Things that aren't absolutely necessary are just completely ignored to reduce workload.

 

I wonder if you are talking about the same manga that I am. But even if it is meant for young boys as you say it is then its worse because it gives all sorts of wrong messages.

 

Because comics, movies and fiction are all about passing on good messages to the younger generation, right?

 

Kishi should have gone with Madara even though I wish the manga ended with Kaguya and Zetsu bullshit. He was a meglomanic but a decent enough villlian.

It's not an assumption. The target demo for shounen is well known.

 

The target audience is teen at the very least with the level of violence and fanservice in it. But I'm sure we can argue all day about that and get nowhere.
My point still stands about his treatment of his female characters.

That is ignoring the fact that he has, in fact, made some decent female characters. They've been mentioned before.

 

And I have said I don't care what his views are. Yes he has created some decent female characters but he screwed up with the lead.

 

Sakura is not the lead character, Naruto is. Sakura is a female character in this manga. Kishimoto may or may not have screwed up with her but I really don't think we can tell if that's the case: She isn't fleshed out enough.

Naruto and arguably Sasuke are -- in my opinion -- the only characters that get enough screentime, attention, detail and backstory to make me as the reader believe I know their character. You can certainly argue that Sakura should have gotten more attention, but as it is I don't think we can really judge whether she's 'screwed up'.

 

As much as I agree with you that Kishi's treatment of female characters in general is shit, Naruto in general was not particularly heavy on the fanservice, or realistic violence. There was some, but not enough to be 'teen at least'. That's 'Seinen' not shounen. Here, have a definition of the word 'shounen'.

 

Sakura is the female lead or as close to one as she can get anyway.
Now that that's out of the way. How can you say Sakura isn't screwed up? She is in love with a guy who has treated her like crap her whole life is most of the time abusive to her hell nearly kills her a couple of times and yet she can't stop worshipping the ground he walks on while not even considering the guy who has always treated her with respect and love. If that wasn't bad enough she has his kid while he is busy playing deadbeat dad.
Hmmm.... don't know about you, in my book that's 'screwed up'.

I know the difference between shounen and seinen and I agree with you. That being said just because the main character starts as a preteen doesn't make it suitable for the young. A villain like Orochimaru wouldn't have looked out of place in a Hannibal Lector novel not to mention some of the other concepts in the Narutoverse like the chunin exams which is pretty Hunger Gamesesque.
Personally I felt those were the best parts of the series. Lets just say it walks the line and leave it at that.

 

It depends on the distance. Lee was uber fast in genin terms but Kiba and Sasuke are in the same speed tier as him after the time skip. Lee's hasn't become good enough to fight S rankers with pure taijutsu yet like Guy.

You're ignoring that Ino isn't a combat ninja. She's a support ninja. She's a sensor and a rather good one at that. I believe she's the one that tracked Akatsuki down in the first place. The only Yamanaka we've seen in the entire series that seemed good enough to stand alone in combat was the ROOT one. I think she also transmitted thoughts, plans, and memories around to the whole army in the war. In other words Ino is decent at what she actually specializes in.

 

Don't forget Jiraiya. I see him as the crownin achievement of Kishimoto's character design, and while him dying was the saddest moment in the whole series to me, I'm also glad that he ended on such an epic note and wasn't dragged into the bullshit zone that came after Pein.

 

The guy came back from the dead by an act of sheer will.

Bump, anyone? I can't remember what he used but something that added to the confusion was that Naruto displayed powers that weren't Kurama's. Do I need to add some spoilers?

 

While this is true, I really wanted a scene with the Sannin altogether again at the height of their powers going all kick-ass. I wouldn't even be disappointed if the anime made a filler episode and made this happen. It would be awesome.

 

Which makes me a shinobi Christian... first time I find something useful in religion. Seriously though, let's build Jiraiya temples all around the world.
