I'd love to see more stories on Minato. Just run and play with it; don't try to force things to follow canon, you know? Maybe Minato doesn't die. Maybe Kushina wasn't even the jinchuuriki to begin with. Just something different that uses those awesome characters.

The technical writing aspects are quite well done, and the dialogue flows pretty well. Naruto's sudden and giant leaps in skill leave alot to be desired though and Kurama practically giving him a Kekkai Genkai is a plot-point I thought was thrown away back in 2009 when we learned Bijuu weren't demons.

 

I'm bored at work and I figured I'd read this until...

Nope nope nope.

 

I couldn't get very far into Prince of War. Bad writing, story that does not make any sense, heaps of power suddenly thrown at Naruto. Fine if it's your guilty pleasure, but I don't think it even counts as "almost recommendable."

 

Ricochet by Strix4 has just updated again. Fucking LOVE this story. So much love for so few words. We need more words!

 

I read Ricochet for the first time last night and maybe I'm just a little bitch but there were definately some tears shed. Probably my favorite Sakura as well, not that there were many good ones to begin with.

Fuck, it's just good, read it if you haven't, one of the few stories that actually deserve to be in this thread.

 

That summary is some bullshit though, can someone tell me what its about? Or is it one of those stories where you can't without spoiling?

My bad my bad, I meant to include that the first couple of chapters were piss. His general writing skills do improve as the story goes on though. And as I said, it's merely a guilty pleasure for me.

My god but this was awful. Which sucks, because it's a really interesting premise.

It's the worst kind of bashing story. Minato tries to use the Shiki Fuuin to seal Kurama into Naruto like in canon, but Kushina flips out because that means Naruto will grow up an orphan, so instead she knocks Minato the fuck out and uses the seal that Mito used which magically does the same thing for half the price. Promptly falls into a coma, which Minato uses an ambiguous space/time jutsu to keep her in until he can find a way to heal her.

Minato then DISOWNS HIS NEWBORN SON because he doesn't like looking at him and being reminded of Kushina, throws him in an orphanage, and lets him grow up a neglected jinchuriki as per canon. When Naruto turns six he unlocks all his Kaguya's-husband memories and enters the Academy, at which point Minato assigns Kakashi and some other ANBU to keep watch and ensure that he'll remain loyal to Konoha. On the side, Jiraiya (who feels towards Minato what Sarutobi feels towards Orochimaru) reluctantly informs his student that Kushina could maybe sorta recover if they put Kurama back in her, killing Naruto in the process. Minato is more than happy to oblige, because why the fuck wouldn't he be.

Even more on the side, Tsunade has been stuck in Konoha for the past few years because Minato made her come back and monitor Kushina's condition because he's a petty dick like that, I guess. When the day that Minato decides to put Kurama back in Kushina rolls around, Tsunade walks up to Sarutobi's house and promptly beats him to death because apparently Minato took all his douchebag Hokage cues from the Sandaime, who had Nawaki and Dan killed for SOME REASON.

Meanwhile Naruto shows up where Kushina is being kept, breaks Minato's seal (the author never pretended he was going to be a balanced character, so oh well) and dives into her most recent memories to see what put her in such a state. Sees the scene I mentioned at the top of the spoiler, which goes similarly to canon except Kushina is the only one giving a heartfelt goodbye because she had to knock Minato out before he performed the horrible Shiki Fuuin what a monster oh my goodness.

Naruto leaves the memory and decides he can't let her die because she is a PURE BEAUTY IN THIS IMPURE WORLD, and pumps her with Kaguya's chakra, healing her instantly. He then implants the memories of his childhood in her head (somehow) so that she can cut out the middle man and just start hating Minato as soon as she wakes up. Also, this Naruto has silver streaks in his hair and eyes for some stupid fucking reason, and guess what happens when he pumps his chakra into Kushina. Sigh.

Cut back to Tsunade, who is surrounded by Minato, Jiraiya, Kakashi, and some other mooks. The barrier she erected has about two minutes left before it fades when Naruto appears inside it by means of a White Zetsu, and asks her to come with him (he's still six by the way) as he abandons Konoha. The reason for this, of course, is that Tsunade is also a PURE BEAUTY IN THIS IMPURE WORLD. Tsunade agrees, they leave, Kushina wakes up and gives Minato the standard bashing story tongue-lashing, and then-

This isn't even a guilty pleasure. If it had literally any other premise than what it does, I wouldn't have bothered reviewing at all. Bleh.

The author mentioned the update rate would improve for a bit. Which I really hope happens.

I found the way they all spoke to be hilarious and very charming but the latest chapter definately over did it a bit. Didnt detract from anything really but it just felt somewhat forced at times.

Anyway, I spent most of last week going through every fic in this thread and they were all mostly ass.

Is that due to the fandom itself or are the good fics on whatever the DLP equivalent for Naruto is?

I ask because Dresden fics have slowed down and ive caught up with all the good HP fics, so Naruto is all I got left. I suppose I could read an actual book but ehh.

It goes from what I'd assume a Calvin & Hobbes in High School would be to an emotional gutpunch while retaining a stupidly solid level of writing.

The author just gets the characters and makes them whole. I'm not talking about the way they were in the original work, but what they aspire to be. They've all got unique voices that just jive and it feels great to read. Definitely something to keep following and should be in the library if it isn't already
