Kyle MacLaughlin is apparently playing her father.

Overall, better start this year than last. More action-y, characters actually seem to be multi-faceted. Iain De Caestecker is doing a damn fine job with SchitzSimmons. Was nice to see Coulson hasn't lost his sense of humour.

Shame about Lucy Lawless' character. I actually liked Izzy, and she barely had an episode of screen time, which I think really speaks to her as an actor.

Really like the way SHIELD itself is being portrayed now, an underground organization; I think something that deals with the craziest of the crazy shit (and keeps it out of the public eye) should be underground.

Anyway, enjoying the pace and the story, and yeah I know wit's only two episodes in, and will probably cool off, but so far, so not-needing-to-be-an-apologist-for-this-show.

Well this show just continues to get better and better.

I really like the new direction they are taking it in. It's a lot more serious, and pretty much everything in the episode today made sense and was well done.

We got a very interesting look at Hydra. And well... Simmons. I thought her performance was fantastic.

There's just so much more depth to every single character now, and it doesn't feel fake or forced like it did last season. Skye is playing less of a central role, and is the one who's character has changed the most since Hydra emerged. She's playing her new role quite well though.

I'm starting to have very high hopes for this season.

Yeah it is really off to a great start and seems to develop into an really interesting show. The changes to the characters give them some much needed depth and their little personal subplots also help to connect the episodes into one large story. The new characters fit very well into the current cast and Skyes acting has definitely gotten better.

I have just one question.. what exactly is the goal of Hydra?

    Evil. And Doom! And stuff!

Seriously though, I'm pretty sure that's what we're going to find out this season. :p

I gave up this show because it was batshit boring in season one, pretty generic and I thought lacked imagination. Plus, Skye was annoying as shit.

Seeing your praises I might have to give it another go.

Your description of season 1 is pretty accurate, until Hydra comes into play in episode 16 or 17.

But a lot of it is pretty important setup for what's to come.

Yup, season two of shield is has moved up much farther into my 'what to watch first' list after only a couple of episodes.

I get that Skye's dad has anger issues, but why would he team up with Hydra?

Well Coulson replaced him as a father figure for Sky and teaming up with Hydra is the quickest way to solve this problem.

I think it's more than just anger issues.

You never know though, he could be trying to kill Hydra to prove he wasn't a monster, or he could have other reasons for doing it. Of course, he could also have been being honest and wants to destroy SHIELD.

So, I thought last weeks episode was pretty average. Seemed like filler really, trying to flesh out Coulson and May's characters. But nothing really happened, I find fight scenes to be boring for the most part

This weeks episode was great though. I really enjoyed the meeting between Coulson and Flower dress girl. He don't fuck around. Having Simmons back is good too. Be interesting to see her dynamic with Fitz now.

The general plots and stories just seem a lot more believable and realistic now. People act in a matter consistent with their situation.

I liked the new episode... It being a city is an interesting idea and the relationship between Skye and her Stalker is kind of awesome^^.

I finally caught up with this and was pretty impressed with the final few episodes. The writing was much MUCH better than usual and the Inhumans tie-in with Quake and Hyde looks like it will make for a fun season pickup in March.

Mid season premiere was good, though I felt Simmons attitude to the whole thing felt more like a mechanic to move the plot in the direction they wanted rather than what Simmons would actually feel like. Even if she was close with Tripp.

Don't forget that she herself also had a traumatic experience with an alien virus. She pressed on with investigating despite that and despite the red flags from the GH 321. I think it's reasonable she feels a little guilty for treating this so cavalierly.

Except for the whole "Coulson making Hydra kill themselves" the episode was pretty meh, especially after two months of Carter.

I'm unsure about Simmons sudden xenophobia, seems a slightly extreme reaction.

Episode was good, but not great. We'll see how it goes from here I guess.

I didn't see a problem with Simmons. There are four of them who feel responsible for Tripp: Skye, Coulson, Mack, and Simmons, and they're all dealing with the guilt differently.

Skye started to shut down, (but is now understandably more focused on her own problems,) Coulson decided to get revenge, Mack lashed out with anger at the nearest authority figure, and Simmons blamed herself.

I get Simmons' reaction, because it's actually an overreaction, just like the others. She blames herself, her work, her focus, basically everything about how she handled the situation. In a case like that, it's natural to try to control any aspect of the situation you can - in this case, she'd can't bring Tripp back, but she can think about eradicating the infection (as she sees it) that killed him.

The only one who seemed completely OOC was Mack, who until now has always been easy-going... except he needs to blame someone, and Coulson was there.

Overall, not a bad episode. Not as slam-bang as the last couple, but that's okay. The characters needed a breather, even if we the audience didn't.

Also, I cannot wait for Skye to start using her newfound talents. Like, on purpose.
