While writing with the quill is definitely torture, I wouldn't equate it to waterboarding.

New pet peeve: excessive variety when it comes to how you refer to your characters.

Variety is the spice of life, and this is what happens when you dump 8 tablespoons of cumin into your stew.

It's actually from my new project, Harry Potter: Edgelord. Release date TBD.

It's a pretty trivial pet peeve, but meh. It really bugs me when authors us, "the avada kedavra," rather than just typing, "the killing curse." Similarly, but less used is when they say someone afflicted by the cruciatus curse has been, "crucio'd."

I mean it's not like they also call spells, "the accio," or, "the stupefy."

"Avada kedavra green eyes" is shitty too, but that descriptor is slowly dying thank god..

It's a justified peeve, that's not its name.

I can see people saying "to get crucio'ed" and "to get AK'ed" (pronounced Ay-kayed) as slang but not "Advada Kedavaed" or refering to the curse as "the Avada Kedava".

Agreed to such an extent that I don't even understand how it was ever a disputed topic...

Go read Terminal Justice. 230k+ words of this writing style.

I only give it a pass because it has Mr. Black beating the shit out of Darkseid :)

Pet Peeve: Whenever Dumbledore flinches, cringes, his eyes widen in surprise, is left with his mouth hanging open, or shows anything else than a cool demeanor... every other fucking line. Pretty common in Peggy Sue fics or other badass harry.

I know it can have quite the impact to see the old headmaster doing something like that, but it loses most of its effect if it's overdone.

I always have seen Dumbledore as someone who knows what's going on, and even if he don't knows why harry is acting so mature and/or hatin' on the world (or whatever) he would act calm or at least keep the Façade.

New pet peeve for me - When the 3 gryffindor chaser girls have some sort of retarded nickname that they are collectively referred to by. Especially when its the same name taken from other peoples stories. I've X'd out of so many stories after reading "Flying Foxes" or "Crimson Vixens". Why not just call them Vaginas on Brooms for fucks sake.

This needs to be written. A commentary piece by Lee Jordan (interspersed with McGonagall's chidings) in which the focus is on Vaginas on Brooms. XD

Has anyone mentioned pranks yet? I don't know why every other fic has to have Harry planning pranks with people. There's never any reason for him to be doing it except to waste time and words. Maybe it wouldn't be so annoying if they were ever funny. I can't think of a single time I've ever seen a prank described and not decided it would be irritating to everyone involved rather than funny despite what the author says.

Especially considering the fact that canon Harry had absolutely no interest in pranks. I find most of these fics have Harry trying to be like his father which is a pet peeve of mine.

Pranks should be portrayed only as the thing they truly are: malice.
