My Hero Academia is some good shounen. If you like it because of the superhero angle, I recommend Keyman: The Hand of Judgment, a seinen manga that has a T-Rex police investigator teaming up with a 100 year old witch to fight corrupt superheros.

Posting in the right thread this time.

So there's a manga I've been reading, though I don't know if it's been recommended yet. Someone probably needs to compile a masterlist or something.
Anyway, it's called Prison School or Kangoko Gakuen.

Summary: "Hachimitsu Academy, known for its strict academic standards and even stricter school code, is making a giant change this year. In the first time in school history, they are allowing boys to be admitted. As Fujino Kiyoshi starts his first day at Hachimitsu Academy he is shocked to find out that there are only 4 other guys in the entire school, making the ratio of girls to boys 200:1. And to their dismay, not one of the thousand girls will talk to them or even acknowledge them. But Kiyoshi and the guys are about to find out about the shadow student council that has been threatening the female students about interacting with male students."

My take on it: the typical 'dude goes to a girls-only school' harem thing, only this is four dudes, and they're all at least a bit messed up. They can't possibly compare to their school, though.
It features fantastic art that only gets better (same dude who did Me and The Devil's Blues, also a rec), masterful planning and a shitload of comedy.
    Often NSFW, though only ecchi.

I'll support BTT's rec. Kangoku Gakuen is an underrated masterpiece. The ecchi is so overdone, so over the top and unrealistic but the author still somehow manages to break his record with every new chapter. Its not really all fanservice, as it contributes a huge chunk to the comedy. If you have a bad day or something, do read this.

I think Prison School is the only manga that's had me actively rooting for a pairing that revolves around water sports. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not, but you should probably read it if you haven't, either way.

Anyone got anything similiar to Holyland or Breaker/Breaker: New Waves?

There's Baki the Grappler and its sequels. They're complete, but a decent translation for the first series is going on. If you go beyond that, you'll end up in DUWANG territory.
More down-to-earth is Sun-Ken Rock, about a Japanese guy who gets involved in a Korean gang.

So, I just read the first of the three promotional manga chapters for the next Dragon Ball movie.

Frieza... you lazy son of a bitch. I think it's been weeks since I laughed so much.

Heh, yeah. Never trained a day in his life.

Frieza is my favourite of all DBZ villains, so I'm looking forward to this. I wonder if he'll have a fifth form like Cooler or will just be way stronger in his fourth.

Edit: Gah, new form revealed. I really dislike Toriyama's new designs. First the Kaioken-like Super Saiyan God form, and now this lame new transformation (see: colour swap) for Frieza.

"Is Reiroukan Still Alive?" is a manga about the residents of a fancy mansion. It's reasonably focused on one fellow, but the author spent a lot of time fleshing out the rest of the cast; each one is a unique character, from the landlady to the movie nerd.

The art is fantastic. Each person has their own unique design, and the backgrounds are lovely. The house, Reiroukan, has especially been paid attention to; there are a lot of fine details if you want to look.

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a story. There isn't a singular hook to really draw someone in outside of the art and the interactions between the various characters, which, while entertaining, aren't enough. Had there been something more, I don't think that the manga would have ended as soon as it did.

Which I suppose is a plus. There were 14 chapters released, and all have been translated. It's an easy and entertaining read, so go check it out.

Sangatsu no Lion (March Comes in Like a Lion) is great. It's about a teenage Shougi (pretty much Japanese chess) prodigy, and it mostly takes place from his perspective. He's quite a fragile and introverted character, with a complicated family situation. I don't have any interest in Shougi so when I recommend this I'm doing it for the story. The art is more Shoujo than I usually go for but once you adapt to it it's great.

It's not really a sports manga, even though Shougi features prominently throughout. It's quite a mature series, and the whole cast is good. I strongly recommend it.

So, between Prison School and Girls of the Wild's I hear the whole 'Boy enrolls in all-girls school' thing is pretty common, but I haven't really met it beyond these two examples.

So, any staples of this archetype that I should know about? Stuff that is good/decent/readable?

It's either going to be the best anime, or the worst. There is no in-between when it comes to Prison School: My Water Sports Can't Possibly Be This Cute. If it's a faithful adaptation with all the best comedic bits (and maybe a few less nasty sweaty-bulging-VP shots) then it'll be in my top five favorites ever, easily.

Or they could censor it. They could censor it a lot.

    ... A lot.

Shiori Experience is a play on the classic tale of a musician making a contract with the Devil, except the "Devil" here is the ghost of Jimi Hendrix, who basically posses our heroine Shirori and gives her rockin guitar skills (literally and figuratively).

This comic has been around for a while, but only recently came available in English. It ahs some great art, nothing special on the backgrounds but each character is unique and easily distinguishable, The story is...well, basically what I said above. I've only read one chapter, but it's got me hooked for more. Go check it out if you have the time.

Going through Prison School atm. Aprox around ~100 chapter or so.

It definitely got better after the first few chapters. I wouldn't call it good, but it's not bad either. The fan-service helps I guess.

I think the most hilarious thing of all is that they expect us to sympathize with the underground council members.

Tried it, bounced off. The gratuitous fanservice was a bit much.

The most egregious member of the USC was always the Vice President, who, ah, had something of a bad end. At least for the time being. Mari was never entirely evil, having a more three dimensional set of motivations and complexes driving her actions, and she seems to be growing out of her hatred of men more and more as time goes on (or maybe it's just Kiyoshi). And Hana... heh. The only prisoner she went out of bounds with was Kiyoshi, and it backfired on her literally every single time. (Water sports OTP)

You're not supposed to sympathize with them like you did the guys, anyway. They get theirs, and that sequence shows the reader that they're people, too.

Hah. I was always under the impression that the most fucked up, the one less worthy of any sympathy whatsoever, was Mari. The vice-prez is just a follower, and Hana, as you said, isn't really that bad.

Edit: And yeah, this attempt to make them 'three-dimensional' is what made me laugh. Kind of late for that now, guys.

In the latest chapters, Mari doesn't become more sympathetic or anything, but the stunt she pulls with Kate is pretty ballsy. So while I don't really like her or anything, I can respect her, I guess.
By the way, not sure if you guys know, but Utopia (the guys who usually scanlate the manga) got overtaken by like 11 chapters by /a/, so they were salty as fuck for a while. It was pretty funny. They had an allegory comparing themselves to a wife who was cheated on and everything.
