I know Aegon is crazy, but if he'd just waited a little, seduced her instead of raping her, he could have avoided a lot of trouble and had Sansa and Jon on his side. Of course, the story would be completely different, and the conflict would have to come from somewhere else, but still...

Anyways, it's one of my favorites.

I'm just hoping the author doesn't shit the bed and make up some Jon/Sansa romance out of nowhere, when its pretty clear Jon is A. still pining for Dany, and B. Sansa is so mentally fucked she shouldn't be dating anyone.

I really do think it is one of the better ASOIAF fics out there. Characterizations are just far more in depth than you get. People don't seem like caricatures of themselves which is a very big problem in a lot of the other GRRM influenced works. (Obviously not yours ;))

You linked the ninth chapter there.

Also, goddamnit, yet another fanfic with a willing Lyanna. Dropped.

You realize we don't know whether she was willing or not?

Does Odran play as Catelyn Tully?

    Suicide in first minute.

The king nobody wanted started on AH.com I think. I've enjoyed it so far, especially how it stayed messy instead of finishing in a dramatic battle like canon. For all of Martin's deconstruction, Robert's Rebellion is fairly cliche with Robert as the fantasy hero.

That's kind of the point though. The fantasy hero kind of makes for a shitty king

Yes but its so over the top. He's the first over the wall at gulltown, wins three battles in a day, when he's injured in a losing battle against the bumbling enemies' competent subordinate he recovers just in time to come out and win the battle of the bells, followed by the single combat victory over the evil prince in the middle of a river. Its a completely different story.

    Chapter 10:
She looked at her son, and wept. If only they had known! Then she and Rhaegar would have done their duties, gone their separate ways, lived their lives. But they'd been swept up in a sweet madness of love and prophecy and grand futures, but love-love most of all. She thought back to the Tower of Joy. We thought we could make a world for us, just we two. Well, they had in the end for a short time, but the price of that world was cruel and bloody.
    Not really ambiguous.

Reading it right now and while it is well written, it is also fucking depressing and joyless. ASoIaF may be dark as well but it wasn't just dark, it had other facets. Stuff like humour or awe. None of that exists here. It's just suffering and misery all around.

I thought Rynonis was speaking about canon, not this specific story. He had responded to Odran who suggested he disliked the idea of Lyanna being willing in general (IE, multiple fanfics). I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm mistaken.

On Ties of Blood and Fire, I agree with Nemrut.

Id be interested in reading stories about Eddard taking Renly on his offer, or him going North after resigning as hand. Does any of that exist?

I know that Martin's goal was to show that the hero became a bad king, that's fairly clear. I'm trying to say that the world is fundamentally different before the novels and behaves according to fantasy cliches, kingdoms led by single families stretching thousands of years, the magical bastard with a raven shaped birthmark and an evil deformed pretender with two heads. Martin wants everything to be super realistic, except his entire setting relies on the cliches to be built. To me its like he decided its all a fantasy kingdom until Robert Baratheon reaches Winterfell and then, dead Starks. The world itself changes which annoys me, especially because it only does so at the moment that makes it worse.
