So, been watching this the last few days:

It’s not bad. Surprisingly, my favourite character is Joe’s partner, who really seems to be this cool guy. Expected some jerk jock but yeah, pretty good to see a character like that who is not a huge jerk, at least so far. There was the one episode where he had the obligatory "have to stomach the vigilante" phase but that one seems over after he was told that the Flash was working for them.

People die a lot in this show, which is both, a pleasant surprise, in that they take out some of the villains and a bit of an unpleasant one, since I kinda wanted to see more of a few of the dead characters.

Dr Wells is taking some time getting used to, since all I think about when he is there is JD’s dumb brother from Scrubs, but ultimately, he is the most interesting and fascinating character.

Haven’t warmed up to Iris yet, and that may be because of her stupid as hell Louis Lane subplot. Why they don’t just tell her I will never know. Her not knowing that Berry is the Flash is putting her in a lot more danger than knowing would. Like, a lot more. Seems to be unnecessary drama.

So yeah, not half bad. Makes me want to watch Arrow again as well.
As to Barry himself, he’s alright but nothing to write home about either.

I acknowledge that this is a bit nitpicky powerlevels, spacebattles-y bullshit criticism, but I can’t help but notice that the Flash’s speed is plot powered. When some guy is shooting something at him, at times, he can’t dodge but he can run 5km in a few seconds.

The farther the place he has to be is, the faster he runs. He can cross a city in seconds, dodging traffic and all, but he can only barely avoid a fireblast. He reminds me of the air ship in Order of the Stick, which flies faster the more is at stake but no matter how fast it goes, it will never arrive before the nick of time.

I know why he can’t do his thing, of course. Making accurate fights with his true speed would be an immediate curbstomp in a flash (terrible pun intended) against nearly every enemy and thus boring. Yet it still feels off when it happens.

Also, some people here are just people with weapons or an ability that can shoot stuff, meaning, they are not bullet-proof. Why is no cop ever capable of shooting them?

Flash's speed has canonical limitations and works in specific ways. In the comics, at least, he builds up speed. As in, he ends up running much faster if he's crossing a city than a room, or just dodging. Yes, he has superspeed, but it's not just an on-off switch.

The plot-armor of the villains is simply because no one wants to see the supervillain get shot to death mid-taunt by a beat-cop.

I managed to catch the Scrubs episode with JD's brother by coincidence the other day. I hadn't realised he was Wells until that moment. Cannot unsee. Here's hoping we get to see the constant questioner if Barry pisses him off again.

I don't know where you're up to, but my main complaint (apart from Iris is boring) is Barry's speed and combat. I like the show, and in the first few episodes it was fine, but we're supposed to be seeing this upward progression. After watching Barry fight Oliver in the crossover, I get annoyed everytime I watch Barry fight some nobody.

the most egregious example in my mind, Barry fighting the random teleporting party girl with a night stick and her getting some whacks in, then, immediately before or after, dodging a bullet as he feels it digging into the back of his neck.

Sweet fuck I barely even know where to start with that. I mean Eddie going nuts? Eiling not dead? What was clearly Mark Hammill as the god damn Joker?

Not the Joker, he is reprising his role as the Trickster from the old Flash tv show.

Is there really a big difference? I've never read the comics, but I had the impression that the Trickster was basically the Joker with the serial numbers filed off.

    What the fuck...

I knew that woman/those dogs would be significant somehow...

Curious if Wells is aware of what happened.

Trickster is very different. One interpetation I've seen (JLU), was that he was primarily a mental patient and not a psychopath, so Flash and him had a far friendlier relationship (to the point where Flash promised to visit Trickster in the mental war to play darts and make sure he took his meds).

    Did Linda's actress change?

Also Iris just became ten times more irritating in this episode. The eventual hookup is gonna be annoying as hell.

I forgot the important part. Holy revelations Batman. I think everyone who knew of the Reverse Flash saw this coming, but still. Big stuff.

Also, Cisco looked really fucking scared. Props to the actor.

Barry's character just took a major blow and appeal to me. The show itself is still going awesome, but Barry broke the bro-code and showed a major lack of integrity by kissing Iris.

I don't give a crap if you've loved this girl since forever. She is dating/living with someone else and you are dating someone as well. At the very least end the relationships and then pursue each other. That said, if she's willing to cheat on her boyfriend with you...she'll probably cheat on you with another guy. Statistic.

Cisco was awesome. Wells is pretty intense. Love it.

Yeah I agree, I might not like Eddie much but after the episode was over and I saw that trailer I realized that unfortunately Barry really probably has that shit coming when Eddie slugs him in the face.

I think the one good part of the Thawne/Barry/Iris love triangle has been the fact that Eddie has been nothing but mature, reasonable and straight forward. You can understand why he might really grow to hate Barry. Iris is boring and it's debatable whether making the hero look the jerk in this universe is a good thing to do, but yeah - poor Eddie.

    Spoilers for Eddie:

Not sure if you guys have seen the trailed for the next few episodes, but there is a clip that shows Eddie shooting two unsuspecting cops. Plus he's also Eobard Thawne's ancestor, which isn't great for his chances of being a good guy. So yeah, don't be too quick to sympathise with him.

But yeah I'd agree that it was a pretty dick move on Iris and Barry's part. More Iris than Barry though - I think it was her that kissed him wasn't it? I can't really remember. Plus Barry and Linda aren't exactly in a relationship are they? They've just started dating. Still a dick move, but not that bad imo.

What the hell are you smoking man? Because his descendant went batshit villain, that automatically makes him unworthy of sympathy, or less worthy than somebody else? That's insane on so many levels. If I'm an asshole, that means my ancestor of hundreds, if not thousands of years was also an asshole? What the actual fuck man?

No doubt Eddie will start going asshole-ish from here on out because reasons, but so far he's been nothing but a straight guy with (understandable) flashes of jealousy and protectiveness.

Nothing can cover Barry and Iris' dick move. Eddie did not deserve something like this, and he is most certainly the victim here, regardless of what his time travelling descendant from centuries in the future did.

Jesus, don't jump down my throat Rep. That's not what I'm saying at all.

I'm saying that based off of my knowledge of the comics, where Eobard Thawne is a descendant of Malcolm Thawne, Barry's lost twin brother, also known as the villain Cobalt Blue. Malcolm tries to kill Barry and generally does villain stuff. I'm assuming that as Eobard's ancestor, Eddie is at least somewhat loosely based off of Malcolm, but either way Allens and Thawnes have a feud for centuries in the comics. So yes, being a Thawne means Eddie is more than likely to be a villain. Happy?

I liked the parallels between timelines. Setting and dialogue, very smooth and not shoehorned. I can already feel the plots circling closer and closer, hopefully they arrange a satisfactory climax by seasons end.

Barry getting punched was hands down the best part of the episode. Go Eddie!

That said, maybe Barry will start figuring Wells out soon.
