I'm actually looking for one specific short that I read a while ago. It was in the general idea thread. The plot was Taylor joined the Wards, found out about Sophia, then reported it and was told to suck it up. She ended up killing herself. Clockblocker and Gallant quit in protest, and Vista was screwed in the head. I read it once, but can't find it again.

 

If I'm not mistaken it was something Lavanaya6 wrote. Not sure what it was called though.

 

It was good, the sequal with S9 vista was not as enjoyable

The fic you're looking for is Downwards, by thegreatpl. The sequel you mentioned is Warped.

The premise was original, though not sure how canon-compatible it is. Has there been Word of God on what would happen if a new cape joins a Wards team, only to claim that another Wards member caused their trigger through intentional, cruel actions? Even if the PRT didn't have proof - heck, even if they had strong evidence to disbelieve the accuser - I'd expect them to understand that having those two on the same team or keeping them in the same school would be big trouble waiting to happen. I'd expect them to strongly push for one of the Wards members to be transferred, find some way of makng arrangements so that the two would never interact when on (or off) duty, and give some form of counseling.

Edit: Hmm, supposedly Wildbow said somewhere that if Taylor joined the Wards, found out about Sophia, and complained...then Piggot would have simply told Taylor to deal, and put a few more restrictions on Sophia but kept her on the Wards. I can't find the quote, though. That's surprising to me. It's not what I'd expect from an agency that's supposed to have the most experience at handling parahumans, unless there are other pressures on the PRT that I'm missing.

 

Downwards is pretty good, even if, as you say, one has to accept the weird concept that the PRT is so inept as to let abuser and victim on the same team, especially if they are superpowered minors. Worm stories do love to make them evil and/or incompetent, more so than the failings they've had or that Taylor thought/perceived they had.

Warped is meh. The identity of Defiant is mildly interesting but not enough to excuse the offhand "everyone died" thing. Smilarly, Shadow, the catalyst for that all, and her treatment is meh. Dunno, Warped was pretty unsatisfying.

 

Ah, I found the actual quote for that Word of God on how the PRT would respond to Taylor's complaints about Sophia. It's not as uncompromising as the 'deal with it' people were saying. It sounds like if Taylor joined the Wards and complained, Shadow Stalker would technically stay on the team but would be effectively benched. And I assume she'd be put under higher surveillance and restrictions so that if she bullied Taylor or anyone else she'd be more likely to be caught and her punishments would be harsher.

So I don't think it'd end as badly for Taylor as it did in that fic. Or maybe it would end badly, but not because of Taylor trying suicide; instead because of Sophia going stir-crazy under her restrictions and lashing out, or Emma blaming Taylor for Sophia's worsening condition and doing something drastic.

IS there a WoG on people being pressganged into the Wards? Or is that a PRTQuest thing? Because, for the life of me I can't tell where this impression -and the resulting hostility in PRT/Fanon!Taylor relations- came from.

 

It's not anything to do with sex, but anything even HINTING at sex like a crass joke that sees people being hit with infraction points.

The fight where Taylor met the Undersiders was a result of Coil's power.

Basically, they left 5 or 10 minutes earlier in one timeline, which resulted in a 3 way battle between Lung, the Undersiders and Taylor.

The other timeline is canon.

 

I think he phoned Lisa and she stalled or influenced the decision.
