Yeah I can't see a way to really expand on Luna's character without making her very OOC. Writing a fic about a Slytherin Luna is either going to be a fic that's actually about an OC or a fic that spends 300 pages showing different ways of Luna being abused and sad.

Maybe there's some middle ground but it'd be so amazingly difficult to pull off properly.

That title is gold. Don't ever change it if you do decide to write it.
EDIT: Guys, give me a break. Luna is a child like everyone else and is malleable like them, if not to same the extent. She's not some set in stone character that cannot grow or change to adapt to a situation or learn from her experience. To say that Luna can't change cheapens the character for me, especially since we don't know how her early years at Hogwarts were. There's so much room to expand and explore!

Well that still does not tell us that Chief Warlock is anything else than just a title.

Presumably his position meant he could have stopped that.

Does not necessary mean that he could have stopped that, just means that they usually did not hold a full trial when it is a about underage magic. Well, this is Harry Potter we are speaking about.

I wouldn't get too excited, guys. It's a songfic based on I'll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan, centred around Luna's cross-dressing habits.

Except Alexandra Potter II, that must happen.

My newest pet peeve: Excessive use of the word 'evil.' Almost all the fics I opened today (err, yesterday) had 'evil' thrown about in the stupidest conceivable ways. One fic had it not once, not twice—but nine times in the first half of the first chapter alone. That's just out of line. God dammit, use a fucking thesaurus.

This is what it sounds like to me when it's used excessively: Oh, bless me from Evil, Evil Lord Voldemort is so very Evil with his Evil crimson eyes, so insidiously Evil, smirking so Evilly, snake-face so snakey and slimy and evil, why he so evil, ermahevilgerd.

Fuck. You get a chapter like that, the author's note inevitably looks like this: MWAHAHAHHAHA, HOW'DJA LIKE 'EM CLIFFHANGERS, TROLOLOLO!!! Omg, I soooo Evil, hahahaha <3 Review for new chappie!

Ugh. 'Chappie.' Another pet peeve of mine.

What I'm most upset about is that I thought that it'd be fun check out some old fics without any filters. Why did I do this to myself? :facepalm

    @Laynio;
THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one. I can stomach calling a work of fanfiction a "fic", and most other conventions like that, but I draw the line at "chappie." It's just nauseatingly cute.

Lucky bastard. I wish the first time I saw it was in that new movie trailer. But, no. It's been years. For a little while I wondered if it was British slang (I've noticed those who use it are normally Brits) or if it's just popular among annoying twelve year olds. Then I decided I don't give a shit, I hate it regardless. Newcomb's right, it's unnecessarily cute. And it's not even cute cute, it's wannabe cute.

Peeve: People misunderstanding - I think deliberately, otherwise they didn't read very well - canon events and using a past misinterpreted event to make their story work.

Just tried to read a story I knew was going to be bad - I was really bored ok - and it tries to say that Dumbledore is evil because he tried to have people killed when they were used as the hostages in the second task. Not only that but that Gabrielle now owes a life-debt to Harry for 'saving her life'. Despite the fact that canon told us they were never in danger in any way.

This whole story is going to hinge on Dumbledore being evil and a part of the justification for that is well...wrong. There's no other way to put it. Not a very solid foundation...

You could argue this is 'AU' but I don't think it counts when you take everything else as is and just tweak a few things so your story becomes possible. You just can't rewrite the past like that in the first couple of chapters of your story, it sucks, that's not how it happened.

By all means fill in blank spots with possibilities, but don't change something that actually happened.

You can change how something happened if you want to continue on from that point, but not when you're looking back a book or two later and going, uh actually nope it was like this.

    /end shitty rant

A very small peeve of mine that doesn't really have anything to do with the author.

Whenever I see a fic, which is labeled as Complete and/or the summary contains "Oneshot" and there are people who still follow it...

My alerts aren't what I'd consider 'following.' It's my junk box. "Oh, I read this shit already," or "Might want to reread," or "Not in the mood, I'll come back later," or "Meh, it was alright, I kind of enjoyed it." I'm certainly not going to put those in my favorites. I don't even check my favorites for updates because I just imported them all to my alerts. Why bother going back and forth when I can just shove them all in the same place? If I like a story enough, I'll recognize it on sight, no need for two different places.

Edit: I mean, yeah, it'd be nice to help other people find good stories, but a lot of stories that were on my favorites were from when I was thirteen. I really didn't want to go back through them all to weed out the bad.

Much virtual ink has been spilled over Dumbledore. Manipulative!Dumbledore. Evil!Dumbledore. Senile!Dumbledore. Let's pass right by those unfortunately and tragically one-dimensional caricatures and move on to something specific that I hate:

    Manipulative-But-Essentially-Good!Dumbledore.

This is the version of Dumbledore that chews his beard in frustration and worry every time Harry does something awesome. Or, more likely, Harry doesn't even go to Hogwarts, he's being raised by elves / vampires / a biker werewolf gang. Dumbledore's really worried, really stressed, because there's a Prophecy and Harry has to Fulfill his Destiny and be a Leader of the Light and then Dumbledore can finally get back to his normal activities like Sucking Lemon Drops All Day.

You know what I'm talking about, right? "Oh, Dumbles [kill yourself for using that name] isn't evil, he's just, you know, he really cares about the prophecy and he wants to protect Harry but he doesn't understand that Harry's too awesome for the Prophecy."

Have these people never picked up a freaking Harry Potter book? I literally do not understand how Dumbledore gets characterized this way.
That last paragraph. I mean, come on, that's awesome. That's like DLP's favorite version of Harry Potter, right there. And the reason he's able to generate that insight at that particular moment is because of Dumbledore. HOW did we go from this to Dumbledore ineffectually scrambling after Harry and yammering on about how the prophecy must be fulfilled?
