I can handle wards, as long as they're internally consistent. I think I could even be okay with a fic that used magical cores (if they were called something else), if they were used for an interesting reason and not as an excuse to make Harry Teh Ultiamte Pwer. Sadly, I can't think of one that does this.

But yeah, "wards" as a lazy fanon shorthand is terrible.

The annoying part is that a lot of the fanon wards these days are, for the most part canon, but they use the word "ward" instead of "charm".

Yes, I dislike the fic "Oh God Not Again" as well.

I think it's just a canon rehash and nothing else.

Oh Dear God Not Again would be a good sequel title for that fic.

I always wanted a sort of sequel where Harry, when reaching his original age again, sits down all his friends and tells them about time travel and shows them how different things become. Would have been funny as hell.

Referring to partner's as "my <name>". When has anyone ever said this, it sounds retarded.

Whenever someone from a crossover completely blows Voldemort and/or Dumbledore off. They are the most powerful wizards alive, why the fuck would you openly criticize and demean them. Unless they're from Naruto or Dragon Ball Z or a fandom whose powerlevels are just ridiculous I dont see that happening

Lots of fandoms have power levels that are just ridiculous. Whenever I see HP characters shown as serious threats in Marvel comics crossovers, I look for the red X.

EDIT: Obviously, it depends on which Marvel comic we're talking about :)

Poorly done Self-Inserts. I actually think it is possible to do them right. I've seen them done right. Some of my Bunnies even include me being the Self-Insert.

But more often than not, they're insanely bad. They immediately make a million friends, astound everyone with their awesomeness, never seem to have any real challenges, and God forbid they spend just 5 minutes dealing with the fact they're probably never going to see all their friends and family again.

Authors who write bad Fanfics that get popular, and then proceed to not be assholes.

If your going to write a bad piece of fanfiction that gets popular, at least be a prick so I don't feel bad about flaming you.

Stupid Robst and his stupid reasonableness. I really want to write an all capital letter hate-review on Harry Crow, but his Authors Notes keep pointing out how silly it is to do that.

You're right about that. And it's annoying how most of the writers who update often and/or regularly are crappy writers and the good writers usually take forever to update and then abandon their work anyway. For once it would be great to have both quality and quantity.

Good writers have other uses for their writing. These stick figure fanfic authors do nothing more than meddle with words and follow the basic cues Rowling laid out, so its not terribly difficult to write 100,000 words if you've already read them in twelve other stories.

Its like the God awful fics where the canon Harry Potter timeline is still followed despite the fact that new characters have entered the fray. All the author had to do was add a blurb from that character:

    "Don't hurt my brother!"

"It's okay, Daniel. I'll take on Voldemort while you stand back and watch."

    "Are you sure, I mean--"

    Add then paraphrase the rest.

I'm sure that everyone agrees that tossing MC in to a deep dark hole then having him overcome obstacles to get out said hole is what we live for. I may not like the truly deep holes, or supreme angst and drama but those fics are usually the best. But when I'm reading a fic and at the 80k mark the MC is still at the bottom of the deep dark hole because there are so many obstacles in front of him that he can't even get a grip on the wall well that peeves me. I agree the MC needs something to overcome, but when he overcomes the problems you don't throw him back to the start that just makes it tedious and stupid and make me leave because all the angst.

Bashing, bad grammar, spelling, stylistics or poor command of the language in general, OC overdose, HP fanfic without magic, HP fanfic with weak magic, muggle world going all Hitler on the magicals after the fall of the masquerade and succeeding fast, portraying the Wizarding World as some kinda feudalistic shithole, portraying the Wizarding World as having the same prejudices as the muggle world, any of the protagonists going Dark too fast and for idiotic reasons.

This is a new one for me but use of the word Jesus. Unless they are specifically talking about religion, they should use Merlin. I didn't even realize this was a thing until I was reading a somewhat decent fic a few weeks ago and it kept popping up and I had to exit the fic because of it.

Harry and Hermione shouldn't be saying Merlin. That's a peeve for me from canon.

I dunno, maybe I'm underestimating the effects of others constantly saying it around you. I've definitely subconsciously adopted slang in the past, but I just don't see something so ingrained so quickly being overwritten, especially if you hang around other non-purebloods.

I read one where Harry and Hermione adopted several orphans then went home with them and prayed jesus and god as thanks for the food. That one was a bummer...

To be fair, we're never told that wizards are explicitly irreligious. There is the Fat Friar, after all. My mileage strays a little on this one anyway, at least in my AU fic. Some of the wizarding families, especially the younger ones, tend to observe some of the Abrahamic mysteries for various reasons, so hearing "Geez" or "Christ" isn't too uncommon.

I agree with Hugplx, though. Harry and Hermione (or any Muggle-raised wizard for that matter) shouldn't use Merlin as a curse word.

Huh. I'd never write a fic like that.
