Now, I want to see a Cedric/Fleur fic set in GoF. She doesn't get his attention the first time and keeps trying, becoming more and more attached as time goes on.

Also, a Harry/Fleur's veela cousin fic. Meets her at Fleur's wedding. He avoids Ginny, but can't avoid dancing with someone the bride sets him up with. Girl speaks some English, just enough to carry her intentions (which are to hook up with the Boy Who Lived, obviously).

This sounds vaguely familiar. I think there might already be a fic like this.

You may be thinking of one of Cypher's snippets that had Neena Canberra (Slut Girl) as Fleur's cousin.

Swap out cousin for best friend and you have Jeconais's Princess.

it's from Harry Potter and the Primes of Merlin. Harry hooks up with a Veela guest at the wedding. The rest of the fic hasn't aged well.

""Veela are semi-human magical beings; beautiful women with white-gold hair and skin that appears to shine moon-bright."

"Veela are the official mascots of the Bulgarian National Quidditch team at the Quidditch World Cup. A hundred Veela glide onto the pitch before the start of the match, and start to dance, faster and faster. They have a strange effect upon the men in the stadium; Harry's mind goes completely and blissfully blank as their music begins and he watches them dance, and he feels the urge to do something very impressive, such as jumping from the Top Box into the stadium. When irritated during the match, some of the Veela lose control, launching themselves across the pitch and throwing handfuls of fire at the leprechauns."

    - From Pottermore

Harry's mind goes blank, he feels the urge to do something impressive? This sounds almost like the effects described later on in GoF for the Imperius curse to be honest. That would be evidence for an active charm than something which simply makes them appear more beautiful?

Obviously the first segment does allow for the fact that they are also considerably more beautiful than an average human, but I would actually say that the canonical evidence seems to be more in support of an active charm than what you're proposing.

To me the major question is more to which extent Fleur would have inherited this, seeing as she is only a quarter veela it's up to the author to interpret to what extent she would have this power herself.

Jeconais had a pretty Jeconais type fic along those lines.

Edit: woops was a bit late, maybe I'll refresh the thread before posting.

I personally think that Fleur does have the full veela charm or whatever. Consider this. There were allot more veela at the world cup, so they would be reinforcing each other. As to Hary's resistance, consider this. He did react at the match, however, when they were running from the Death Eaters, he was able to resist the group of veela in the woods. Ron and the other males were not so lucky. This does not mean that I think that Ron is an unfeeling bastard like sadly he is portrayed far to often. That character has too much potential to be portrayed like that.

But then we're making the assumption that the power somehow "reinforces" when there are multiple Veela.

It's just one of those canon moments where there's not enough information to go on.

This is exactly what I said in my post: that Veela singing/dancing is an active "love spell".

I agree. I mean wasn't there a passage in GOF that mentioned how Roger was unable to look away, and how he was unable to eat properly or something?

Also, consider this. If you were at a dance with the most atractive girl when comparing Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang, why the hell would you act like an idiot? You would be trying to impress her with the machinations of your brilliant mind. Or, at least i would.
This seems to support that veela, and Fleur (for the purpose of this thread) do have power over men who might not have the most willpower.

I think you never were at a dance with the most attractive girl.

Ha very funny. I never go to school dances or anything like that, mostly because most people there bore me. I live in a very very small community, so there is absolutely no veriety here.
Population by the way is around 6,000

No, have not. I mean, if there was someone really like Fleur, I don't have any idea what I would do.
I was just saying that to support the theory that Fleur does have power over men.

I personally always read it as Fleur having some sort of ability to influence men, but in the end it really doesn't matter. It all comes down to how it's written; there are definitely good directions to go with that concept just as there are good directions to go with the opposing view.

I've never seen VeelaAllure!Fleur used particularly well, but on the other hand, there aren't many Harry/Fleur fics that aren't garbage, so it may well exist someday.

Don't be that guy. That guy ends up wearing a fedora and saying m'lady. It's a dance. She isn't worried about how smart you are. She wants to have fun. The correct answer is to dance, flirt, smile, keep the conversation light, and maybe throw in a few jokes. Your job is to make sure she is having a good time.

Go to the dance and actually dance even if you make a fool out of yourself. The secret is to smile and look like you are having fun. A guy doing something silly on the dance floor is more fun than the guy who went with his date but was too afraid to dance and sits there like Harry and Ron in GOF. Seriously, it doesn't matter if you like those people. Better to learn with them than to screw up when you meet someone you actually like.

Speaking of which, anyone who writes a Harry/Fleur scene that involves the Yule Ball should keep this advice in mind too unless you are trying to make him fail. He doesn't need to go get dancing lessons from a friend before the ball so he can get ladies like in every other story. He just needs to dance and have fun. No serious conversations should be had at all. That shit will kill the mood faster than Ron Weasley's dress robes. You keep the conversations light, Harry dances (not just with his date), they drink some punch, and they have fun. If you follow those steps, then maybe just maybe Harry ends up in a bush at the end of the night.

Having Harry and Fleur go to the dance together is too much too early IMO.
At this point tweak him a bit so he makes a conscious effort to please his date and be a nice guy overall.

At this point in canon he was already attracted to females and managed to get a date with the prettiest girl in his year, bonus points for landing his friend a date with the brainy twin.

Let him enjoy the date with his partner and not be dragged down by Ron.

A bit like walking before running.
