Eh. Well's body died and Thawne's body transformed, but we know for a fact that Thawne also took at least Well's memories, if not sense of self outright.

From there it is not too much of a stretch to assume that though Well's body is gone (or, alternatively, now inhabited by Thawne, whose original body is gone) some form of the original Wells' sense of self still remains.

Question: Is Eobard (gonna refer to him as Eobard rather than Thawne, so as not to confuse him with Eddie) actually that smart himself or does he have access to Wells' intellect? I mean, Eobard knows that Wells creates the particle accelerator in the future, but he said it needs to be built sooner this time round and now that he has killed Wells he has to build the machine himself. So is he smart enough to build it himself (with the help of Star Labs, obviously) and make all the conclusions about the metahumans he makes in the series himself or is he accessing that part of Wells' brain?

I'm sure it's a big mix. He'd know more than everybody about science cuz he's from the future. Plus absorbing Wells. Plus his freaking AI robot buddy that somehow accesses time line shift knowledge. He's got a lot of things going for him.

Just because he has future knowledge of the sciences does not mean he has the smarts - the capability - to do the sciences. Though Gideon (the AI) is a massive help, yes.

Agreed. But if I got shot into the past, my rudimentary knowledge of batteries, combustion engines, antibiotics, etc is going to give me an incredible edge.

It's like the 4 minute mile. It wasn't until 1954 that Roger Bannister recorded a sub 4min mile. The next year I think 4 other people did it. A weird mental barrier that is very real gets removed when you know for a fact something is possible.

So even if he wasn't a genius from the future, even an average guy coming to the past is more than likely going to be more capable of scientific breakthroughs.

Also, the timeline might make sure that what is supposed to happen does happen, like destiny (kind of). Harrison Wells is meant to create the particle accelerator so Harrison Wells does create the particle accelerator, it doesn't matter that it happens earlier or that someone else is inhabiting his body, it just matters that because it was supposed to happen it just does.

Help from the Timeline/Destiny/Fate, whatever you want to call it, that's some next level shit.

Iirc Eobard was his age's version of scientist/historian. He is rather intelligent, though probably not Wells level.

    Pretty awesome episode.

    Iris knows...

And Barry creating Gideon? Thats cool.

Barrys priorities were abit annoying tho, he seemed more worried there was no confession than the fact Cisco might die... I understand its his father, but come on.....

I just got caught up with the last two episodes. Pretty fucking awesome. Gotta admit I love Eobard's character so far.

So Iris just kinda ... walked into Star Labs? And none of them knew?

Is that something anyone can do? Like, the doors are open to the public and they can wander around the labs without any sort of notification?

Also, I know the Iris hate bandwaggon has been beaten to death, but holy shit Iris. A female dog is less of a bitch than you are.

Grodd was okay. Eobard is awesome as always.

I was surprised Den of Geek's review considered Iris the highlight. I respect that the actress isn't bad but her character is so fucking annoying.

I don't think she's wrong to be so pissed at her dad and bro/love-interest (still makes me cringe) lying to her about everything since he got out of hospital, but whenever her and Barry are together they seem to forget all sense of time and place/appropriateness. These conversations should not be taking place now.

And if she really can't hold it because of all the drama she should actually blow up and get pissed and shout and actually show that pressure, not just bitch and moan.

Finally, never been a fan of 'listen to my voice', especially in a situation like this where - if you're buying into a gorilla with psychic powers being able to puppet people about - it really shouldn't be an effective thing at all. Could Barry resist Wells' speed powers if Iris had to told him to focus on her voice? Yeah, exactly.

Still, although last week's episode was a sprint to this episode's jog, it wasn't that bad. More Wells/Joe/Cisco/Eddie/Grodd. Less Iris.

Okay, I guess... But actually, does anyone else work at STAR Labs? It always feels empty.

So basically they're acknowledging it's a plot hole and telling us to focus on more important things, like how unlikable Iris is as a character.

    Never trust a bad guy.

    Edit

Also slightly confused with the timeline.

Barry phoned up Oliver for help but got told he was in Nanda Parbat... so how did Oliver know to come help? Because as far as the teams concerned, hes brainwashed + I doubt they would just offhandedly mention this to Malcom.

Once again, Star Labs have revolving doors with not even basic things like cameras or face recognition or even, say, a locking mechanism.

Perhaps the best thing to come out of this series is Green Lantern tease. So fucking hyped right now.

God, yes. After the multiple teases to Ferris Air they've dropped on us, it had better lead to at least meeting Hal Jordan, if not full Green Lantern. After the movie shitshow, anything GL-related on CW would be an improvement.

You know, that speech of Joe, about how Barry is a good hero, who cares for his villains would have resonated much more strongly if we hadn’t learned this episode that Barry, and everyone involved, was content to let 5 humans rot in solitary confinement for nearly a year, with next to nothing to do. I didn’t see any magazines, tablets, laptops, handhold-consoles, books, or even stuff like empty pages and a pen. No leaving for sunshine or walks, no working out. Heck if I know how they showered or used a toilet. Just, a tiny cell and nothing else.

That’s pretty barbaric and cruel. I don’t quite remember what each and every one of them did, but pretty sure teleporting girl at least didn’t deserve that punishment.

I love Captain Cold, he is evil and he fucking loves it. He takes such joy in everything he does.

WTF, that ending came from nowhere. Thought the episode was going to end when both sides assembled, but now, a rushed fight and suddenly, they got him? Odd.

Which would be funny seeing as two of the screenwriters for the Green Lantern movie (Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim) are showrunners for Arrow/Flash.

I would argue there was nothing particularly wrong with the Green Lantern movie's script. There were lots of problems with pretty much everything else.

I feel like this episode aired out of order relative to this week's Arrow episode. Not that I've seen it, I'm just guessing because Oliver Queen had Ray Palmer's SCIENCE! arrows.

That would make sense, except I am pretty sure the favor Oliver talked about will come up in tonight's episode.

All I can think of is that the Flash looked up Nanda Parbat and ran over to get Oliver's help.
