I think Steal my Thunder God also has a loyal Orochimaru.

Though that may be because we havent reached that point in time yet.

I also seem to recall some kind of dimensional travel fic... Where Tsunade was the "traitor" and Orochimaru stayed.

I can't remember the name but it had something to do with Naruto drawing a seal while drunk and manages to dimensionally shift the Rookie 9?

The last was a time travel fic where he drunkenly transports them back in time to before the Kyuubi attack, before any of them were born. Orochimaru wasn't a traitor, yet, and Tsunade had already left Konoha to gamble and shit. She wasn't a traitor, they just jumped to conclusions given Sakura's powerset.

Didn't last past the protag's first day at the academy. SI running about being an idiot and nobody commenting on it just made me roll my eyes. Doesn't help that the SI is an over 40 year old man with children who wants his future children to be 'as adorable as Hanabi-chan'.

Dude finds himself reincarnated into the Naruto world, immediately, and I mean immediately, like, within the first few moments of having consciousness, immediately starts plotting how to get ultimate power via Rinnegan. Don't believe me? Here, practically within the first two pages.

Then there are gems like this which shows what a gritty and realistic person he is. This comes before his realization that he needs to carve out a bloody path to power via Rinnegan.

A bit later scoffs at the very thought that Naruto had a hard childhood, because his was apparently so much worse, you see, and has the desire to beat/bash canon characters because he hates them.

Really, are those the thoughts of someone who found themselves reincarnated in a fictional world, especially one as dangerous as Naruto? Really?

All this? First third or so of the first chapter. This is just terrible. Does it get better?

Edit: I've read a bit until chapter 2, I don't know why, morbid curiosity, I guess, where he beat up six year old Sasuke and apparently took some perverse joy out of that, then he loudly bowed and grovelled to Itachi, calling him lord, thinking he is super awesome because of reasons, and then he saw Naruto getting his usual fandom treatment, but he sprinted in there, wailed on Naruto, because that is how grown ups deal with a traumatized six year old and held a big speech on how he should feel, angry and whatnot, because he, as a real man, knows what the correct response should be and goddamnit, if there is anyone who knows what real life is like, it is this guy.

You know, this is maybe the first time I have seen a SI story succeed in convincing me that this is really a SI of the author. Until now, the characters were more like playable PC characters of the author, who had some similarities but were ultimately different people, only with the author taking over from time to time to make a decision, like how we play RPGs like Mass Effect, where we make a decision. The rest of the case being more on autopilot by the plot, doing things we couldn't and wouldn't, because we just aren't our RPG characters.

That character is our Shepard, because our decisions do influence his or her behaviour and make it different from other Shepards but no one truly thinks they are Shepard. Same with the SI characters, I'd argue. But this time, I do believe the character behaves the way the author would like to think he would behave in this sort of situation, trolling and beating up the people he dislikes, being awesome, being this weirdly perceived tough, competent uncompromising badass, who can do what he wants without any consequences unless those he wants to happen, who are tough enough to make it seem like his actions have real consequences and he is a badass for dealing with them but are actually meaningless.

Like, the hell would his caretaker allow him to get in a fistfight with what is openly acknowledged to be the kyuubi jinchuruki who is getting really pissed off.

So, that's how far I've got, pretty sure I won't read any more.

You're obviously new here, but a well constructed, on topic post like Nemrut's is valued a hell of a lot more than being a dick for no reason. :facepalm

I think the whole sequel was on a slow downhill path. I can see why the author lost interest. Vapors was a bit all over the place too, but there was always things to look forward to in each arc - both short term and long term. Clarity barely had anything going for it apart from Aiko eventually getting back her memories.

Anyone still reading I Am Not Going Through Puberty Again? Despite really not being all that high in quality, I find myself enjoying every chapter still.

The premise is interesting, but the execution is a little disjointed, but a decent time waster.

Think I've said it before but I lost total interest in Vapors and its sequel because of the way it punted for it. It was as if the author decided shit was getting too easy and the only way they could reset the drama/difficulty level was to pull the ol' "OH NO THE MC/SI HAS LOST HER MEMORIES. Nao she fighting her old allies. Oh noes."

Which pretty much soured me on the whole thing.

@ Puberty: Oh holy crap that thing's been updating? No alerts. Damn you ff.net

This is bad. I agree with everything Nemrut said above, and it only gets worse later in the chapter, and in chapter 3.

It becomes readable in chapter 4, but it's still not good. A shame, since I consider the author's other story one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

Disagree. It's not bad. The Nemrut's review is right, but it's only one side of the coin. At least it's not a copy/paste story and not a boring one. Just don't expect anybody to act reasonably.

So, I decided to go through the recently updated Naruto fics to see if there were any undiscovered gems. I died a little inside, but still managed to find a couple things I felt like sharing. They're both time travel, so if that's not your cup of tea feel free to move along.

I rather enjoyed the characterizations in this one, though there are a few instances where they feel a bit forced. And while at first I thought this fic was pretty damn good, it still feels like it's missing something. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it's keeping this stuck in the 3-3.5/5 range for me. Still, it's fairly well written with an interesting premise and a good update rate.

Honestly, I only included this one because time travel fics are my guilty pleasure. It seems to be written by a new author, and it really shows in the clumsy writing within the first section. It does clean up a bit, to the point where it's readable and not completely cringe-worthy, so I was able to the interesting part, which is the last of the three scenes. There is currently very little written, but I think it shows some promise (though that could very easily prove to be false hope) and I felt like giving a brand new fic a little exposure.

Tried reading 'Nothing Worth Saying Aloud' passable writing but the story just didn't catch me.

Any other fics similar to The Best Laid Plans?

Interested in some decently length war hungry Konoha, Team 7, and/or Naruto.

This one is a 3/5 if you're feeling really generous. But it's similar enough to The Best Laid Plans that it scratched my itch. Haven't been reading updates these last few months so no idea if it turned into total shit.

Team 7 and every ninja their age is ridiculously overpowered. However, I quite like the concept of total war portrayed in the fic.
