Finally, something at least halfway decent from packs. First Malorne off my 8 win Warrior arena, then a golden Preparation (and my second Prep in total) off Watch and Learn just now.

 

Last legendary was 47 packs ago (Counting). Still waiting for something atleast. Il even accept a Millhouse

 

I just got back into the game, but damn, I'm having so much fun with a Mech Aggro Rush Mage deck right now.

Now I just need to clear Naxx and BRM.

I just started playing HS last night.

I have no real idea what I'm doing.

~Edit~ Okay this is pretty fun, but fuck I'm terrible.

Did an arena and only went 3-3, I'm assuming I should do much better than that, just I have no idea what's actually a good card and what's not other than basic 'uh, okay, that has more attack/health for the mana' logic.

 

Unless gold is not a problem, I recommend waiting to play arena until you're more familiar with the cards, which helps with drafting and playing around your opponent's most dangerous (and predictable) plays. 3-3 on your first arena on your first day of Hearthstone is super-good, though. Have fun!

 

But. Arena is more fun than having to face legendary cards and shit with my basic mage control deck!

You're probably right though, working on leveling every class up to 10 to get a feel for them in practice mode.

 

Don't play arena until you're familiar with the cards? Arena exists in order to familiarize yourself with the various cards and such without having to buy packs.


At three wins you're generally breaking even on cost compared to simply buying a booster pack (Barring silly bad luck). At 7 wins, you're guaranteed to get your 150 gold payment for the arena back. That's the way I try to go about it, and I just in general I like arena a lot more than constructed. You get a lot more variety, and sometimes it's just fun to play (with or against) bullshit stupid decks.

I've actually never bought a booster, and I have almost all the cards. I could probably craft the rest, but I've never really looked into it. I've been playin' since beta, though, and I only play arena (2245 wins at this point. Jesus.)

Way, way behind the curve to start this late into the game, apparently.

I'd have to throw some serious money into it to be remotely competitive at constructed decks. (Or get a shit ton better at arena to consistently win 6-7+, and spend a metric fuckton of time grinding it)

 

I'd suggest watching specific overview clips from the professional hearthstone players on youtube. The gist of it being 'you want to play around characters' Area Of Effect' cards like flamestrike, consecrate, etc. That'll make you better than 50% of the players already

 

1) You have to pay gold.
2) You can't choose what class you're going to get.
3) You can't choose what class you're going to face (you'll "familiarize" with Paladin and Mage, for sure, but the others?).
4) You can't choose what cards you and your opponent are going to use.

While #4 seems to be a good way to familiarize yourself with all cards, I think the randomness of it makes it less optimal than, say, create a deck (even a gimmick deck, which you can't really construct in Arena and yet is pretty important to understand the game) and face a random deck on the ladder or play against an Expert Practice deck.

Like any CCG, the later you get into Hearthstone, the harder its entry barrier is. But once you get past that, you'll be fine. It's pretty easy to get a high average of wins in Arena. As for constructed, I never delved much into it, but as I see it, having the money/dust to make a competitive deck is not the problem - you can even grind most of them in little time, if that's an option for you. Learning to play them correctly against all other currently-popular decks is what sets the legends apart.

Basically this (only not limited to AoE cards but the major staples of all the classes).

 

If you want a cheap competitive deck, I'd recommend face hunter. I don't like it myself because it's incredibly simplistic to the point of monotony, but it beats top teir decks and is very strong. Just google a hearthstone fact hunter deck.
