When it comes to JKR's canon, I simply assume that if there is a contradiction, then the later statement is the true one as the author had more time to think it over.

So if the 150 option was earlier than the 120 one, then 120 is the true answer.

Then again, I take everything directly said by Jo to be fully canon, including her interviews and even statements made on Twitter.

 

I reserve the right to discard anything about canon outside of the books. And that includes James' parentage.

 

Then we have one of the OWL-examiners stating she also took DD's NEWTS, so I guess she'd be at least 15 years older.

 

I hate it, when characters act out of character for joke relief. Like cold!calculating!character suddenly stammering, because humor!

I hate it when eleven year old children are cold, calculating and manipulative. Especially when Draco Malfoy, of all people, is presented that way. It's nice to have clever characters, but not every kid is Tom Riddle.

I've always been extremely peeved when for no apparent reason a well written fic will inject random Japanese words into dialogue. It serves no purpose other than to break immersion while you either puzzle the meaning out by context clues or googling to find out what the fuck was just said.

 

Uzumaki is a good example of that

If the former then I'll have to disagree with you. Spiral Maelstrom just doesn't flow as well for me.

 

Proper nouns are generally not random bits of Japanese thrown into a sentence. Moria isn't a word in English, but I still recognize it as the name of a place. Uzimaki and Goku might have meanings in Japanese that I don't know or care about, but I know them as names. It's the konbanwa's and urusai's which pop up sometimes at random in a piece where the last 3000 words (sans proper nouns) have been in English and suddenly someone spews out some pidgin after speaking in perfect English for the previous three chapters.

 

The Room of Requirement has become a Pet Peeve of mine now.

It seems that authors just use it as a cut 'n' paste plot solving device.

I don't hate the RoR, though I admit it gets used a bit to frequently. What I do hate is sharing it with everyone, or even just a few people. It's too useful to be shared.

New pet peeve: long descriptions of places that add absolutely nothing to a story.

I think this might fall under the umbrella of the bad writing pet peeve but I've been seeing it a lot in fanfics and some original fiction lately and it's fucking annoying.
