I quite like the author's story I'm Still Here, but the Plums collaboration has me worried. Plums writes guilty pleasures, and while Kathryn518 uses cliches and fanon quite a bit, she did it well, I don't know if the combination will help. For crossovers I like both sides to be respected, sometimes that means one side is dramatically more powerful, like Harry in LotR, but against Jedi the best I've seen was The Havoc Side of the Force, where Darth Maul seriously threatened Harry. Anytime Harry gives speeches to hidebound conservatives I have to resist closing the tab.

Yeah. Decent writing I don't particularly like raising Harry fics though. 3/5

So, Unspeakable Harry Potter in the past as a BAMF adult, post Voldemort. You can see some influences from other fics but over all nice. Some grammar mistakes but competent writing. Hella cliché tho...

Unfortunately autor started four stories (2009, 2011 and two in 2015) and finished exactly zero.

EDIT: Gets 5/5, I am considering it as series of oneshots. I like small touches like Salazar posthumously declaring Hermione to be ugly.

I don't remember seeing this recced yet so I figured I'd post. It's an interesting twist that I haven't seen before. Harry goes back in time this time sharing head space with some deceased dark wizards and redoes his fight with Voldemort. There are only 2 chapters as of now but the writing is good and the premise is interesting I give it 4/5 so far.

Almost Recommended isn't the right place for 5/5 material.

Which thread then? Because if I try to post in Review board I get a message saying I don't have sufficient privileges.

It's in WbA, here. I'd love to see this try to make it into the Library someday, but I'd prefer if it got put up for review once it's completed, not before.

So you ended up in the right place for a lot of wrong reasons @ OP. Things to learn: 1) You need to post in the actual Review Board forum, not in the Library. 2) You do not post stories in the Review Board that have only 2 chapters. 3) If it's written by a board member, the smart thing to do is to ask if they want it posted, since obviously, they know best whether there's enough story yet to reasonably judge it.

The Almost Rec'd thread continues to serve, amongst others, as a way to share links to brand new stories, as it were.

If these are cliches and they come in such nice coating I don't know what's wrong with them. I dig them. Highly entertaining with a lot wit.

Solid 3/5. Entertaining, but lacking polish. I'd call it a high quality guilty pleasure.

Whiskey Time Travel: interesting enough that it kept me going despite average quality of writing. I got kind of a Black Comedy vibe from it. If it's continued, I'll probably keep an eye on it. As TWT said, it stands at 3/5 as it is.

Nothing wrong with cliches as long as they're used in an unpredictable manner. I liked Whiskey Time Travel a lot. 4/5 from me.

It needs a few more chapters though before it goes in the review board.

HP/ASOIF. Harry gets transported to the GoT universe and proceeds to become a leader to wildlings. It's sort of a fix-it fic, but I found myself reading it. I'd give it a solid Meh/5.

    Very meh indeed.

The writing is rather poor. It gets a little better, but not by much. Some parts and basically the entire first chapter are more of a long summary than a fic. Harry's a bit stupid at times and completely whipped.

The plot is extremely railroaded and easy to predict. Harry just happens to meet only plot relevant characters in the wilds. The way he decided to become a leader of the wildlings and transform them into a more civilized people days after being dumped into a new world was a bit painful.

At times, it feels like a strategy game mod or something. You know, make a base, start harvesting resources, get more warriors and equip them better.

The way that Harry uses magic is in my opinion fairly realistic for his goals in mind. Just that it's all basically Hogwarts graduate stuff, his decade of wandering the world, learning magic from all the major magical cultures hasn't been utilized almost at all. Only that he's now a badass melee fighter. Sigh.

It reads like the author lacks vision and is just playing in a sandbox, though I admit I grew rather curious about how things will turn out and how Harry will affect the future.

So a 3/5, prepare to be mildly interested or just disappointed.

Funny you should say this. The second chapter feels like Harry's developed RPG dialogue syndrome.

    "TELL ME ABOUT WILDLINGS."

"The Wildlings or free folk as they call themselves..."

"THAT'S NICE. I'D LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT WILDLINGS."

    Suddenly, Benjen Stark arrives.

    "TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FAMILY."

"TELL ME ABOUT THE SEVEN KINGDOMS."

    "TELL ME ABOUT MANCE RAYDER."

Mance's history that Harry is told is quite similar to Mance's History on AWOIAF.

"He was attacked by a shadowcat while ranging. His brothers lost him but a wildling woman found him and tended to his wounds. While he recuperated she mended his cloak with red patches. Like Qhorin he was from Shadow Tower and when he returned the commander, Ser Denys Mallister, thought to make him replace his cloak with one of all black."

    Compare to

"...he was attacked by a shadowcat while ranging, and was healed by a wildling woman. While he recuperated, she mended his torn cloak with swatches of red fabric. Upon returning to the Wall, Ser Denys Mallister required him to replace his mended cloak with one of uniform black."

There's a weird amount of Ron bashing in the first chapter. I don't get it, since the character's never going to show up again. Author preference I guess. This and the poor dialogue make for a bad start, and while it doesn't seem to get good, it manages to get alright.
