If we're recommending one-shots with unconventional ships, I'll add:

Bad Mates by Prim-the-Amazing. The only Taylor/Browbeat shipfic I know of. Word of God says that Browbeat had a peculiar personality. We never got to see it in canon, but this fic makes good use of it.

I'll Be Your Mirror by truebeasts. Post-canon Ingenue/Panacea shipfic. Possibly set in the larger world of the Dragon Unbound fic by the same author, but you don't need to have read it to understand this story.

Inverse by Glassweir. Jack Slash/Number Man fic. An old one, actually the first Worm fic on AO3, but as far as I know it's the only one with this premise.

I really enjoyed Taking Sights - it was very well written. Pity, though, that it'll never be complete, but then again the Evangelion fandom is deader than dead.

 

I read this story in the Wormverse Ideas, Recs, Whatever thread on Spacebattles, really enjoyed it, then went back just now and found a thread for it!

Ouroboros. In 1997, before Leviathan attacked Japan, Lung is still at the beginning of his supervillain career when he's accosted by a strange cape named Weaver who demands his help. Time Travel, Lung POV.

Think Journey of the Dragonfly, but better writing and Taylor traveling back alone. It's four chapters so far and it has tons of potential. Everyone's in character and the writing is very good, though the Lung POV might turn people off. It's updating pretty quickly, and I just really love it so far, but we'll see how it turns out.

Absolutely loving this concept.

Taylor's character is spot on for me. Too many authors have her triggering with some ridiculous power and just going hardcore Skitter on everyone's asses straight out of the locker. There were months of Taylor's mindset changing before she decided to take on Lung. This terrified and frightened Taylor with an S-class power that she can barely control is perfect.

Don't know whether I actually want to see the poor girl corrupted by the S9 as the S9!Taylor tag seems to suggest though.

Guh, that's just getting mean now. Memoirs of the Simurgh is probably the limit to how fucked up I can stand Victoria but that fic is at a whole new level. Still an interesting, well written read though.

Enjoyed it. Mainly because I find post-Birdcage Amy to be an interesting character. The whole character development she goes through, and the person she is at the end of it. Wish there were more fics that featured her like that - instead of trying to fix all that trauma she went through.

Skidmark fic was absolutely hilarious.

Didn't enjoy Reign as much, mainly because Go Gently did such a good job of shipping TaylorAlec (albeit, a very different Taylor) that I can't help but compare it to that.

Really enjoying it, but I have to suspend a bit of disbelief over the concept.

In Journey of the Dragonfly, Taylor allying so closely with Lung works - because they went back together and no one else in the group is really on her level (ie, Tattletale didn't come along). If she came back by herself, it seems a bit contrived for her to go halfway across the world to seek out Lung specifically.

Apart from that though, it's pretty cool. Journey of the Dragonfly is one of my favourite Worm fics, so another with a similar concept and feel is always welcome. If it does go the Lung/Taylor shipping route, it could actually work given that Lung is the same age and obviously a bit softer.

 

I've ploughed through to the 170's in Amelia, post Butcher fight. Anyone who's gotten father think it's worth reading the rest of it? I only read it because I was bored but honestly I feel so disappointed. I honestly couldn't give a shit about Amelia, in this fic or any other, but Taylor being such a pussy is making it hard to read. So, does she start acting more like Skitter anytime soon?

 

No. In fact, it gets so much worse. My advise is to drop it now and forget it existed.

Yeah, they do. I tapped out by that point, so I didn't read it. But there's porn of it.

And it got taken of SB because one of the characters made a dirty joke, and TaraNari threw a hissy. He does that. A lot.

Honestly, his comments and just general attitude are a good portion of why I dropped it. The rest is probably because Amelia is the fanfic equivalent of McDonalds. Shitty and bland, but it came out daily and was filling.

 

Shit, I gave up on that fic in chapter 9, and I already through that was a generous amount of dedication I gave to that heap.

 

As I said when it was brought up: When the author treated the addition of the fourth member of the team (technically third since they came before Tattletale) like Imp- we're just supposed to buy that they're on the team now with little build-up without the logical reasons why this worked for Imp- that was the point to quit.

 

Ouroboros is really good. I love everything to do with late game Weaver, and this one's good by any standards. It does seem slightly forced, the way Lung agrees to work with Taylor, but that can't be helped in a story like this.

Can't get into Dominion at all. I gave up midway through the second chapter. Something about Materia Blades's writing just doesn't sit well with me -- I can't quite quite put my finger on it. Taylor's thoughts in single quotes is annoying, but it shouldn't be a deal-breaker, yet I can't bring myself to read the story.

Journey of the Dragonfly started its last arc. Good stuff. Nice change in the team dynamics. Now that the Brockton Bay stuff's over, the story is moving on to Japan. Really looking forward to the Endbringer fight.

Jokes aside, the supcom cross is the only decent one, and it's not very good imo. The name escapes me, but it's been linked and discussed earlier in the thread somehwere.

 

Smash the System Is the only Tinker story I have found recently that may be worth a damn. Taylor triggers making Borderlands gear. Pretty standard alt-power story, nothing special, but worth a look.

Of the old ones that have been mentioned already:

A Cloudy Path Author has excellent long term plotting skills and has done a great job regulating Taylor's power to the problems she faces. This suffers from a dry writing style.

Sarin As a chemical Tinker Taylor takes her school hostage. Mostly told through other heroes povs as they deal with her.

Memories of Iron Taylor gets the memories of Tony Stark. This is the polar opposite of A Cloudy Path in that the author has excellent style but has turned it into a curbstomping Taylor by the Simurgh's attack on Canberra.

And if you are feeling desperate for a TinkerTaylor fix try:

Enrichment Not 100% TinkerTaylor but it is there. This is a crackfic btw.
