Anyone following Protectoreddit? Basically what happens when a bunch of redditors pool their OC capes on an alternate world post-Scion. Only a few snippets so far but they've been pretty good, quality wise. And OC's have to be approved for canon works (which must follow the beats of a main plot) so less shenanigans. Though apparently no one could stop people from trying to munchkin one of the groups, Wyrm, who are just horrible.

It's literally pure shit and has some of the dumbest capes and how nobody ever wants to nerf their super speshul OC. So basically it's reddit.

Meh. It's not that bad. Wyrm is the peak and someone needs to grow some balls and stomp on that shit now.

And, even if it was, most of what I've read at least has a higher bar writing-wise than fanfiction generally does. We'll see how they do when they have to plot their major events.

Maybe they need to double up and come up with OCs they don't plan to write about, filling in the world without overusing combat precog to death.

Either way, even if this whole thing crashes and burns I'd like for the author to keep writing for Pitch. He's an example of a character with a versatile power that isn't cracking the universe open and can be challenged by most people below or above him. And the author seems like a good enough writer, though perhaps a nerf on oil generation would help. But he hasn't abused it yet.

    He's basically Skitter, with oil.

Ah so that's where it went.

I just thought it got buried into the depths of SB.

But well, I suppose that speaks to how well I think of the fic considering that I didn't really miss it.

Come to think of it... I think I wrote stuff for it too.

Am I the only one still reading Journey of the Dragonfly here? Because the story is getting better and better with each update, and no one here is discussing it at all.

Did Lung just second trigger? Seems to be very Deus-ex-machina-ish to me, but arguably necessary seeing the decreasing number of Dragonfly members, and the greater challenges ahead.

Eidolon may or may not be dead. I hope he's alive, I want an Endbringer fight. I think Eiodolon's alive. The author won't pass up an opportunity to write Lung vs Leviathan Round 2, or so I hope.

The writing quality is definitely much better than the start of the story. I wish it were as good as this from the start, could have been one of my favorite Worm fics. Still a pretty good story though. Looking forward to where it goes now.

No, you aren't the only one reading it. I've liked it since the beginning.

Apex is a pretty decent story I just found. Taylor is a Cauldron cape in this one, and so far the story has only covered the circumstances of Taylor becoming a Cauldron cape, but the writing is pretty good and the story has potential.

Isn't it weird how, despite the fact that is seems like it shouldn't work, it really, really does.

But seriously, the Lung and Skitter interactions are really well done. The latest update only cemented it for me. It's the main reason I'm still reading.

Journey of the Dragonfly is easily one of my favourite Worm fics.

And what's not to like? It manages to combine a lot of interesting concepts. At the end of the world, Taylor drops all the cape codes, rules and goes all out. You're dropping that Taylor into a more stable Brockton Bay, replacing her main source of sanity (Tattletale) with Lung. It does a good job of making Taylor's means seem reprehensible at times, while maintaining the reader's general support for Taylor's goals.

At the one point where I felt like my interest was waning a bit, Eidolon happened.

Edit: just finished latest chapter. Not sure I'm liking Lung in this chapter. Not necessarily against that pairing, but I feel he didn't sound quite right - opening up that much.

I started reading Journey of the Dragonfly for the pairing only, but I'm not sure how much I actually like the story. A better title for it would be Convenient Events: the Series! I keep having to suspend my disbelief, and the writing quality isn't great. Everyone always sounds out of character in dialogue, especially with the philosophical monologues.

The best thing I can say of it is that it updates quickly and seems to be almost done.

Started reading Journey of the Dragonfly, and it's interesting enough.

I actually like the inclusion of Static etc - it has all the advantages of a crossover (we get to see characters in a different setting) and none of the disadvantages (letting one set of characters overshadow the others).

    Finished Journey of the Dragonfly.

It's excellent - overall I think it's stronger than Weaver Nine, but the latter has that unrivalled Leviathan fight. Cenotaph is of course on a tier above.

As much as I enjoy Journey of the Dragonfly, it's very much a 3/5 story. It's an interesting take on Taylor's win at all costs mentality, but the writing is just very awkward. The author can't seem to write a single sentence without trying to give it unnecessary gravitas. It's particularly bad during Taylor's dialogue. She sounds ridiculous. I enjoy the story, but it's very flawed.

Second this crazy hard. The story is actually well paced right now with actual development that didn't come from some long, drawn out monologue or fight scene. It has some faults in terms of the writing and dialogue, but I can ignore that for the quality of all the other bits. Easily the best new Worm-fic I've read in recent months.

I really can get behind the spirit of Journey of the Dragonfly, but like the others, I find the dialogue ridiculous.

The latest chapter is especially bad, in that respect. A chapter made of up mostly dialogue, and both Skitter and Lung suddenly sound like their lines were ripped out of a terrible shounen manga.

That was the problem I had with Journey of the Dragonfly. The characters seems more like caricatures than real people.
