Insurgency is 75% off for $3.74, in case anyone is interested.

Seriously guys. If you like shooting games, it's one of the most polished and fun. And the level of variety in game modes that actually work and are balanced is crazy.

For someone on a bad connection, is multiplayer going to be a long string of incidents where my lag clears up just in time for me to read my death message? I got plenty of that in MW3, but I can only imagine that, in a more 'realistic' shooter, I'd have even less of a chance in situations where people see me before I see them, due to latency.

Is the offline stuff compelling enough to make it worth buying? I'm not even talking about a campaign or anything, just shooting bots to pieces.

No. I think the co-op [you + others v. AI] and the multiplayer is what has a lot of variety and is fun. The singleplayer is okay, but not worth. And there's so many explosives/RPGs/etc that your latency will spike and make multiplayer a son of a bitch.

    Sorry dude.

    This.

But people who play regular FPS games tend to struggle until they learn to change the way they play. It isn't like COD or Battlefield where you can run around like Rambo, and trying to play that way is going to lead to a lot of very quick deaths. Be prepared to spend more time peeking around corners and lying in wait, than running around 'pwning' people.

A headset goes a long way too, playing tactical, realism-based shooters without comms is silly.

Even if your connection is shit, pick it up. For $3.75 it's worth having even on the slight chance you'll get a better connection eventually.

    ---

    Today's deals are fantastic though.

Luftrausers is only $2.50 - This is probably the most fun I've had with an arcade style shooter in a long time. It's basically a bullet hell game that's actually playable for regular people. Great soundtrack, fun graphics, and way more enjoyable than I expected. Trailer.

Transistor is $4.99 - I've mentioned this like 20 times already. Same guys who made Bastion, stunning graphics and an incredible soundtrack, rpg elements blended well into action combat. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Just go buy it. Trailer

Banner Saga is $4.99 - LoTR meets Vikings meets XCOM:EU. Trailer

How is it better? What are its mechanics and how different is the game from CS?

Chivalry: Complete Pack has a 90%. Worth it? It's barely $2 here now.

    Oh, and Banner Saga?

    Yes to both.

If the idea of Chivalry is something that appeals to you (FPS melee combat) then Chivalry is right at the top of the list for games like that. It's fast paced, rough, and a lot of fun when you aren't raging at perceived bullshit moments.

Banner Saga is slow and very strategic, but when you get past the story and rpg elements it's effectively a game of chess where each piece can do 4-5 things instead of just one. If you end up digging it, the multiplayer is a separate game called Banner Saga:Factions.

I also highly recommend Invisible Inc. It's a fantastic game, turn based strategy in which stealth is highly emphasized, with rogue-like elements.

Caution is punished with alarm level increasing yet recklessness = death of an agent. Risk vs. Reward is the inherent theme in every mission and each level is unique.

Guns do realistic damage [1-2 shots and you're a goner], the guns feel 'right', you need to be very careful with how you move 'upfield', comms are hugely important, squad tactics hugely important, and player base is largely serious.

Since I've been a fan of the Command and Conquer series since it first came out (it was, I think, the third game I ever bought), I saw C&C4 on sale for £2.49 and decided to pick it up.

I've since come to the conclusion that I spent too much on it. Why does everything EA touches turn to shit?

Is ROme 2 worth buying for 14euro? I've been a fan(of the series), but haven't played this particular game.

I enjoy the battles, but hate the campaign mode. This period of history and the one immediately preceding it, i.e. the classical Greek period, are my personal favourites and the focus of my university degree, so I'm a little forgiving when it comes to Rome II.

Why do you hate campaign? How would you rate it compared to, say, the original Rome TW?
