I had high hopes for that fic but I just couldn't handle the railroading. Confessing to Panacea is by far the worst example but in general the fic has consistently railroaded events to happen instead of it happening naturally. The writing is good but I can't keep suspension of disbelief.

The Behemoth fight in that Superwoman story sucks so far too. In canon Behemoth is slow, implacable, and scary because while you can run away, you can't stop him for long.

In this fic, he's somehow fast enough to catch the Triumvirate and Taylor by surprise. Amongst a ton of other errors.

That would the other problem. The arthur doesn't seem to understand the characters or how they are supposed to act. They all come off really OC. It was a lot better after the rewrite but it still pops up.

Read that a few weeks ago.
Couldn't go beyond the first few chapters.
Taylor has had her powers all her life, yet she never used them to determine why Emma, her BFF4eva turned on her? She doesn't even have to be blatant, her enhanced senses should have been enough to determine that Sophia is Shadow Stalker, for example.
These sort of things kinda stretch my SoD.

I dunno, it feels like the author hasn't put too much thought in the intro.
And then there's the abysmal Taylor/Panacea interaction.

In general any sort of slash is just a giant warning sign. I'd say romance in general is poorly written in fanfiction, but slash is often written by someone of the opposite sex who has no clue how to make it seem halfway realistic and it drags the whole story down.

Uhh, what? Emma never turned on Taylor in The Last Daughter, and Shadow Stalker hasn't shown up at all.

Don't get me wrong, I'm of the opinion the story is barely readable at best, with a bevy of mechanical, grammatical, and characterization issues, but if you're gonna hate on it, at least have valid reasons for it.

I think he is talking about the original chapters. The author posted the first three chapters then after people pointed out various inconsistencies he rewrote them. Haichi must have read the originals before the rewrite.

The absolute fucking worst fanon character. At least Coil dies fast.
I think it's kinda hilarious the loooong discussion Wildbow got himself into by implying that lesbian sex was often a matter of pandering, given how far his fandom has run with it.

I've heard people complaining about him recently and I can see why they feel that author and fandom aren't a good fit.

Could you direct me to the discussions mentioned in the first two bolded parts, and then elaborate on the third bolded part? I'm very interested in this particular subject for Reasons.

Yeah, the original version tried to rehash canon despite completely different circumstances, and the end result made zero sense whatsoever. The rewrite at least has a coherent story, but it's still terrible.

The latter is based on mutterings I've heard around about him and his WoG posts.

Speaking of which; you can likely find his comments on lesbians there, in the index.

IIRC he said he didn't think he could do it justice or devolving into pandering, which is the opposite of what people should bitch about.

Honestly, there are very few if any non-canon romances done well in the fandom. I've seen plenty of great D&D or A&B snippets, but that's thanks to the groundwork that Wildbow set up. I'm not sure if anyone has really done even a good romance story outside of that. I'm down to being proven wrong though

There was that interesting Amy/Tattletale oneshot.

But yeah, it's probably mostly because everyone writes about Taylor and Taylor wasn't really fertile ground for a relationship in canon. Neither was her canonical partner really. Brian is so bland that people are ignoring his pretty cool power on a site that loves cool powers.

Scrib I do like that you're not taking the low hanging fruit in regards to fiction written on space battles, I however have no compunctions against doing so.

In my opinion the reason non cannon romance is so terribly written on space battles is because most of the authors don't understand how to write a realistic portrait of character interaction, let alone romance. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that a good percentage of people who write on space battles frequently don't understand how most humans interact with each other in the real world.

In any event a group of people who can't write good character interactions tackling something like two lesbians developing a romance for reasons that almost certainly aren't too far removed from "cute" or "hot" probably aren't going to succeed in there endeavors.

I actually wonder how much weird shit was written before the rules regarding lemons were implemented on that site (assuming there wasn't that rule set from it's inception).

Wait, what? The Fandom says that the author, who created said fandom, is a bad fit for the fandom? I'm a little confused by that logic.

It's called lesswrongitus, an infectious disease which causes delusions of grandeur amongst people involved with fanfiction.

Ah. I read the first version of the story a few weeks ago.

Apparently the author rewrote it. It doesn't seem to have improved much though, from the comments on here.

Last Daughter is not quality reading by any means, it is however still a story that I read simply because it updates twice a week or so and is entertaining, if nothing else.

It kinda replaced the Spider-Madison for me, in terms of guilty pleasure reading with fast updates that I can waste ten minutes a day with.
