Well, to be honest I haven't played the campaign much since the first month of the game's release, and back then the load time between turns was glacially slow, making the game all but unplayable after a while. I'm not sure if this has been fixed with patches yet, but I suspect it would still be sub-optimally slow to load between turns. There's only so much you can fix with patches when the base code itself isn't too hot.

Otherwise, a major problem I had was with the AI. It just wasn't very good. Again, maybe they've fixed it. I don't know.

I suppose my main problem has less to do with Rome II than it does with my taste in grand strategy game campaigns. I've played a lot of Paradox Interactive games like Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, and Crusader Kings over the last five years, and I personally think they're a lot better than Total War at the grand strategy stuff. I find it a bit uncomfortable to go back to the Total War style now. Not being able to save the game and then reload as a different faction irks me something fierce. There's nothing like building up a powerful ahistorical empire, only to load the game as a minor state and then bring that empire to its knees. Unfortunately, not possible in Total War games.

In any case, for its time Rome: Total War had a much better campaign than Rome II. Then again, I preferred the original Shogun and Medieval campaigns over the original Rome's, so take that as you will.

This is probably a silly question but bear with me, I haven't bought Steam games before.

How does the buying work? I buy a game and download once to a PC of my choosing, or can I keep downloading it from Steam wherever? What are the limitations?

You buy a game and it is registered to your Steam account, then you can download it as many times as you want on as many computers as you want.

You can also share games with your friends, so if you log into your friends account from your computer and install one of their games which you don't own, then log back to your account and try to run it, it will send them an email requesting access.

The limitation is that the game is bound to your steam account. You can download it onto however many computers you like but in order to play the game, you have to be logged in Steam. You can "family share" games on steam but that has its own limitations, such as the fact that the person you share with can't play the same shared library while you're playing it yourself.

---------- Post automerged at 07:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:46 AM ----------

The limitation on family sharing is that if you're playing a game, your friend can't play any of the games that you're sharing. If they were already playing the game and then you started playing, Steam will kick them out of the game in 5 minutes.

Was about to buy Rome 2. Then I spent an hour reading reviews.

I'm thinking of picking up Verdun 1914-1918, but I've already wasted some money this sale time and don't want to do so again.

    Anyone played it? Thoughts?

Yo guys. I need some advice.

Lords of the Fallen is on Sale at -50% discount, i.e. 24$ with its original price being 50$.

I want this game. Its on my wishlist.
But I'm not in a hurry to get it.
I have a whole list of games I've yet to play like Witcher, Witcher 2, Dark Souls, etc.

So what I'm trying to ask is, is this a fair price to buy this game at?
Or Will it get lower, maybe during Christmas time?

Also, Lichdom: Battlemage is at 5.19$ with a -87% discount. I'm buying it right now. Just fyi for people who were waiting for a >80% discount to buy it.

Lords of the Fallen is a knockoff dark souls and worth maybe $10-15 or so. Got it at release and felt ripped off.

At least play Dark Souls first.

Lichdom Battlemage is eh but Jennifer Hale is always great. Loathed the combat though, and the story is a bit incomprehensible. $5 is probably about right.

I'm pretty sure I saw Lords of the Fallen for cheaper earlier in the week. Something like 60-70% off. I personally would wait til the winter sale cause I expect it to drop to a 30$ base price by then so it will be pretty cheap.

I also second what Iron Rose said and recommend you play Dark Souls first. The videos of Lords of the Fallen I've seen make it look like a Souls clone.

So I picked up Verdun and it's pretty damn good. Lots of historical accuracy in the weapons and uniforms. The emphasis is on squad based manoeuvres as well, which is interesting, though I've yet to find a squad that does it properly.

Is Sim City 4 any good? It goes for 2.20$ and I'm considering it. A lot of the reviews mention extensive modding, and I've never done that D:

Age of Wonders 3 is pretty cheap. Any personal recommendations from DLP?

It's quite good, but the graphics really aren't pretty anymore now.

You should definitely get the Network Addon Mod. As for how to install them, I think the subreddit has good guides, as well as google.
You can spend hours installing mods for it, it can be overwhelming.

As someone with 1,943 recorded hours(most of it as actual playtime), I would certainly provide a firm "yes", but well, I'm biased.

Of course, it helps that I also got the games for free due to being a member of the Beta Team, although I certainly would have paid for it otherwise anyway. My appreciation of the previous games before release of this one, and appreciation of the current game, being the reason.

If you do get it and are interested in a multi-player match(just us or a group), then feel free to message me on Skype. I know I have you on there. I'm just Invisible(or offline, but well...).

The game vastly improved from the release, since it was a huuuge shitstorm, and the DLCs expanded a lot of Factions, it was 5.6/10. Now I would rate it a 7.5/10. But I only recommend buying it if you want to play using mods, definitely an 8.5-9 game with Divide et Impera.

However, if you want a much better campaign or/and doesn't care very much for the Classical Antiquity, wait and buy Attila. A 7.7 from the release, and the mods have more freedom.
